Has anybody here went to Iceland?
I've wanted to travel there for years, and I'm already planning on going to Reykjavík. I'll most probably go alone. I will have a rather low but fair budget and I'm studying Icelandic.
What were your experiences in Iceland? What would you recommend? Where would you recommend me to go?

Here rn, if you look icelandic you should learn a few basic phrases just to pass as one, also it helps being a generally autistic/shy germanoid person. Check out places other than reykjavik. It gets miserable after a day imo.

Also for those saying Iceland isn't pozzed, first thing i saw in the arrival wing was a hasidic reading his little book about whatever. On the bus into the city i saw a gypsy family staring out an open window onto the street with the dad being totally shirtless, big belly hanging out. I have yet to see a flying icelandic flag, meanwhile at the municipal pool for locals/families, the tranny/gay flag is flying up high, and of course alone.

Your call on whether you want winter (which ends soon) or summer. Golden circle has hordes of tourists any time of year, go to any other part and see waterfalls and stuff, perhaps even alone for a few minutes ( at least off season). Stay closer to the cultural things, read some books, perhaps the sagas or anything. They read a bunch but a lot of the youth are honestly dissolute. Go see a play or see live music at a bar (prefer dillons in reykjavik). DO NOT be stupid on a saturday night, "safest country in the world" but you can have the back of your head smashed in if you are perceived as stupid. Otherwise have fun do some tours but also just go around. Have some sense on what is intentially hyped for tourists and what is more cool (check out the north)

also, 1000kr = 8usd, and things add up very quick.

I already know some of the basics of icelandic, I plan on studying further, I think it's interesting. However, I don't think I'll pass as one, I'm Italian lol. Is that a bad thing?
Honestly, I like all the calm, rural, "boring" places so that's not an issue for me. I will go to Reykjavik anyways, I wanna check out the city of course.
Thanks for your reply!
