Just finished High Society and it was great. Thanks to the anon who recommended it a few weeks ago. The bully was lovely in it, and the FL was nice too and played by a decent actress contrary to what one anon said. Not a cardboard cutout at all. SML was cool, and the characters' relationships with their mothers were well done and showed growth. The ml was kind of boring, but I guess that's just how his personality is supposed to be.

I watched half of these. One a major disappointment but 4 were great and even the others good. I also watch retroslop and came across some stinkers too. Overall I'd say the hit or miss for producers of these shows is the same year over year. What is clear there is something for everyone. You also sometimes get more than expected and sometimes less.
I finished recently Positively Yours and was surprised to like it. Also finished Cunning Single Lady 2014 and it was rage bait (hence the fucking title) and left a bad taste.

I think I'm done with kdramas after My Liberation Notes. It was dogshit.

I wanted the second female lead to have more screentime. The ads in the finale two ep was bad, kopiko and eggdrop.Should have been one villain instead of two.

What's your favorite show with a cute male lead?

just finished Can This Love Be Translated. the highlight of the show for me was the dynamic between the leads. They don’t beat around the bush and are very straightforward about their feelings, especially the way the fl chases the ml. there’s no love triangle at all, throughout the show, the fl only thinks about the ml. for comparison, it's just like alchemy of souls s1.

I’d rate it 7/10. The fl is hot, and there’s no filler, the show just focuses on the main couple.

Finally finished The Art of Sarah. Big dissapointment unfortunately, not what I expected from Kim Jin Min. I also drifted off in the second half so don't even know what happened really? Can any hyung recap it for me pls?

Not watching it. When it is clearly stated in the synopsis then I know to avoid. Everyone has their personal taste and mine ain't cucking. I give the kdrama machine credit since there are shows produced for just about anyone. They know many, not all, women viewers want a FL that can test ride multiple men before a choosing (I actually think that is fair but I'm not entertained by it). There should be more of those in which no choice is made and the FL prefers to remain alone, not needing a man.

I agree most shows are for mass audiences. Asian females. And nothing much by way of plot is necessary when romance is several hot actors with an existing fangirl base, after one woman. But on occasion someone fucks up and produces a quality gem. What I have to do is look at older work or not limit myself to only korean drama. I like the idea of the story but the actual execution of each plot point feels unnatural to me. As though things are happening solely because the story needs them to, rather than it being an organic series of events. Too many conveniences, too many coincidences. It also doesn't help that it is extremely predictable. And it greatly irritates me that they use generic ass AI art to represent the ML's own artwork
That said, I have no complaints about the supporting cast and do think the ML actor is doing a good job with the forced cheerfulness. People who have fresher eyes for kdramas might have a better time. I have seen too many of these things

Found it pretty comedy forward instead of drama for 8/12 episodes. It has not even a hint of a love triangle, which I fucking love. I hate cliche love triangles, so any show without one instantly gets a boost. Last 4 episodes do what you expect for the most part with redeeming the villain, a slight time jump, and resolving all the drama/couple issues.

The time jump is like a quick montage through Christmas, so it's a few weeks to months at most. I agree with you though, the trope you mention is ass, which is popular in adult/workplace shows. I also hate the villain redemption trope, which it seems all romcoms have. You can't fool me. If you build up a villain for all but 1 or 2 episodes, I'm already dug in and not switching my opinion on them even if they get forgiven.
