Everything. Star Wars has always been exactly like this. Everyone is only just now realizing it's always been childish fucking dogshit

The concept of a Stormtrooper defecting to the rebels after being forced to participate in a war crime was pretty cool.

Of course, they made a real mess with casting Boyega to play that role and in how they developed the character as the movie progressed, but the basic idea was kino.
>>
>>218290610
It proved that Mike Stoklasa and Red Letter Media were always retards who should never be listened to.

And it helped prove the Prequels and EU were better in retrospect.

>And it helped prove the Prequels and EU were better in retrospect.
The complete rehabilitation of the prequels is probably the best that came out of disney star wars
>>
>>218290610
Nothing
>>
>>218290610
They stopped making them
>>
>>218290944
Nope. Reddit's r/prequelmemes have that (dis)honor for somewhat reviving the prequacks. Listen up zoom2 and alfatards, I'm dropping some lore. In the beginning, 4chan rightfully hated the prekeks and made memes about it, partically I dun liek Sand and Darth Sidious. Then, like shit down the sewer, it flowed to Reddit where it coalesced into the prequelmemes subreddit. Like flies to shit, eventually, brain dead literal crayon eater late millennials and zoom2 born from unwedded IPA alcoholic hipster parents who had the tv playing the pregruels on repeat as their method of childcare, flocked to the subreddit thinking they're in good company. These same child neglect victims later graduated to 4chan and twitter, spreading their misguided filth to the world.
Tldr: liking the prequels is reddit.

You're a real one if you can remember the Darth Shitius posts.

>they did an masterful job of the marketing
>Kylo's crossguard saber was actually a good idea, because it stood out in the trailer and generated discussion/buzz
>they exercised a small measure of restraint and did not bring back the Ewoks for the third film, even though that would have been an easy memberberry
>the lightsaber duel between Rey and Kylo atop the ruins of the Death Star was enjoyable, as were a few other action scenes across the trilogy
>some nice ship designs here and there

That's all. I can't recall any good music from the film, which is major failing for Star Wars.

The prequels grow more popular with each year that passes.

>Adam Driver and Oscar Isaac are great despite having nothing to work with
>Daisy Ridley is at least pretty even though her lines and the character of Rey was dogshit from the ground up
>this one amazing shot of x wings flying over water in TFA
I genuinely can't think of anything else. Every time I reached for something positive it was in one of the other movies or Mando season 1.
What a truly abysmal trilogy.
>>
>>218291348
you're only lying to yourself, also you will never be a woman.
>>
>>218291532
>What a truly abysmal trilogy.
Star Wars can never recover unless they do some hard retconning. They have been dancing around the sequel era for 10 years now without touching it because they know it's fucked
>>
>>218291320
Cope and seethe, hack.
Disney did the sequels EXACTLY as RLM wanted to and they failed so horrible the prequels look like masterpieces in comparison. They will still defend their old plinket reviews to the end because that's what made RLM popular.

I only liked the part where kylo ren asked rey to join him.
>>
The execution was, at best, questionable, but I'm happy that Snoke wasn't the final boss of the trilogy.

I said from the start that whoever the villain was needed to bring the saga full circle to the prequels. I'd have personally preferred plaguis but palpatine returning had the EU to take inspiration from I guess
>>
>>218290610
I guess some of the music is good. I can only recall the TFA OST because I invested in TFA before I knew better. TLJ maybe had some good tracks? idk. I didn't listen at all to ROS or watch it.

Rey's Theme is still good. So is Torn Apart.
>>
>>218291615
I'm a different anon. Fuck trannies (as in let them kill themselves) anyway.
Also, ad hominem confirms you have no arguments.
>>
>>218291643
I u inronically love the Last Jedi and believe this was its biggest, if not only fumble. Rey joining Kylo here would have set up episode 9 to be extraordinarily unique so I don't know why Johnson didn't just go for it when the trilogy was being made up on the fly anyway
>>
I don't really think it got anything right, to be honest. Like, the absolute best possible praise someone could give the Disney Wars films is...they look like Star Wars movies, mostly. They have Star Wars things IN them, lightsabers and stormtroopers and blasters and ships and Jedi and Sith and stuff. Those are all like, visually within the film.

But they don't really function either as sequels or expansions of the universe in any meaningful way, and whereas Star Wars used those things, those trappings, to tell a fantasy Hero's Journey tale of someone being thrust into a situation he wasn't prepared for and having to grow to rise to the destiny, Disney Wars just kind of used the visuals and themes as the story itself.

Disney Wars is not a Hero's Journey, because the main character just opts to become the hero, they never fail or grow or overcome. They start out having already done that, and only get better at things they were already great at. So instead, Disney Wars is a movie about lightsabers and laser blasts. Those aren't just scenery around the narrative, those are what is offered instead of a narrative.
>>
>>218291700
Dark Rey could have at least somewhat saved the sequels but JJ Abrams would have immediately retconned it at the start of Ep 9 anyway.
>>
The only thing these first of the trilogy did was introduce me to Daisy Ridley and allow me to jerk off to her occasionally. The second one was dumb and she was weirdly bloated in it, and I never saw the third movie.
>>
>>218291725
I don't even need evil rey to be endgame, but starting the final act with both the protagonist and antagonist on the same moral side with conflicting views of what's best for the galaxy, ESPECIALLY with what 8 had established with the diad, would have been really interesting.

Not that id trust JJ with even that concept though. Hed have probably just put in the opening crawl that they broke up and are enemies again.
>>
>>218291799
I think it would have been, from a writing standpoint, interesting to see what amounts to the only Force/Dark Side interaction that we haven't seen in a film yet, which is someone who "falls" to the Dark Side, but then is able to be pulled back. We see Luke who is tempted but overcomes and resists it, and we see Anakin who is tempted and doesn't resist it and ends up falling. So there's room to explore whether it is actually a one-way street or not.

But again, that would require competent writing.
>>
>>218290610
Things they got right:

- Han Solo and Chewie banter ('Oh you're cold?')
- Practical effects (BB8?)
- Some easy-on-the-eye casting (Rey)

But not a lot. Most was shit including the memberberries, retconning and absolute disregard for the previous trilogy.
>>
>>218291700
The original trilogy was also made on the fly but at least Lucas always forced a direction for the story so it could make sense.
Instead Johnson and JJ just kept undoing everything the other did and fucked everything up. Pretty impressive.
>>218291725
I would have loved a Dark Rey and Kylo returning to the light side and confronting her at the end.
>>
>>218290610
If they could have really went for their idea of romantically connecting with someone through the force that could have been super sexy.
I felt like the cinematography was generally great. The ending with Snoke was pretty sick, nice echo of the Palpatine/Vader scene.
The fight after looked cool but should have been way bloodier and more brutal.

Mostly I just have things I like about the trilogy I should have loved.
>>
>>218291569
They just need to bite the bullet. No half-measure shit like timelines or whatever just have Paul Marketing write up a speech like:
>"Listen, we're moving in a different direction with the IP.
>If you're one of the seven people who liked these movies then good for you, no one will take them from you but for the rest of us we're going forward with a better trilogy that we think is better suited to carrying on the incredible legacy of star wars".
Rip off the bandaid and move the fuck on.
>>
>>218290610
Returning to being the corrupt Republic being a joke failure of a government.
>>
>>218291265
>I can't recall any good music from the film, which is major failing for Star Wars.
True, though having to equal the OT music is a pretty high (and unreasonable) bar, even for John Williams lol. I do like Rey's theme but it's definitely not at the same level as, say, Luke's or Leia's (or even Leia and Han's love theme).
>>
>>218291532
Actually, one thing the ST got right consistently were the technical elements: the films looked and sounded great (too much CGI instead of practical work with things like miniatures but that's just the way modern films are made). Unfortunately, for the parts that really get most of the attention - little things like plot and characterization - the ST was complete and utter shit.
>>
>>218291751
She's a hottie for sure, too bad her costumes were always so bland.
>>
>>218290610
The Trekkies had been resentful that their franchise had turned into a joke with endless years of trash content. Star Wars decided to take one for their old rivals and produce slop of equal or conceivably even worse quality. It's almost touching in a way. The two greatest scifi franchises going down in flames together.

As a casual SW fan, here are some things I enjoyed:

>Episode VII is just like Episode IV
>Kylo Ren is a good character (with a crappy arc)
>Finn had a cool backstory (its a shame they never went anywhere with it)
>cool aesthetics overall
>I like what they did with Luke Skywalker (unpopular opinion, I know, but I’ve seen his arc play out in real life and it was nice to see Luke redeem himself toward the end).
>heavy use of Rule of Cool

I haven’t rewatched the films in a while, but my overall impression is that Episode VII had great potential story and characters, Episode VIII sabotaged everything it could and ruined a lot of potential, and Episode IX hastily salvaged what it could.
>>
>>218290610
im honestly trying to think of a single thing they didn't fuck up, this is really hard. The cgi was pretty good at times i suppose? They got the aesthetics correct for the most part, the lightsabers mostly looked like lightsabers, the scenery was overall competent.

The crashed death star, while ridiculous and nonsensical on the surface, looked amazing in the third film from a distance. That's about it.

>>218290755
>Using as much McQuarrie concept art as they could find
oh was that how they did it? makes sense.

>>218290868
>The concept of a Stormtrooper defecting to the rebels after being forced to participate in a war crime was pretty cool.
the way they wrote it in the original script that leaked before the cuts and rewrites wasn't awful, but they butchered even that idea, because they cast a very ugly negro that tested poorly with....everyone.
>>
>>218291643
The most interesting scene in the entire trilogy and they dropped it like a hot potato
>>
>>218291532
>Daisy Ridley is at least pretty even though her lines and the character of Rey was dogshit from the ground up
she was pretty in theory (she's walled now with ugly haircuts to boot, her sister was hotter too), but they spent 3 movies dressing her like a homeless crackhead in a potato sack, she wore the same shitty outfit for 3 movies straight without ever costume changing, she couldn't wear a nice dress, or a latex skinsuit, ONCE? lame.
>>
>>218291643
>>218293655
this, it was the single moment, where i sat up in my chair, in all 3 films, and thought "woah, this is a spicy twist, go on, accept it! this could be a fascinating dynamic to explore!" and then she just said no and it was over.

I actually forgot about that part, i have a copy-paste making fun of Ruin's movie, i didn't even mention that. What a waste of an idea.

Andor is much better than the Prequels and Rogue One has Felicity Jones the first two seasons of the Mandalorian was kino before they ruined it the animated shows are garbage though
>>
>>218290610
Rey as a concept before TROS. They went too far with the Mary Sue, and doubled down on the 'future is female' bullshit.
Kylo as a concept.
Giving fanservice to the Reylos. They were the only set of fans who saw something interesting in it.
Ignoring Finn, he should have been cut. Boyega should be seething even more.
Some aesthetic things, mostly in TFA.

>>218295304
>the animated shows are garbage though
Open your mind up because rebels is far better than Mando

>>218290610
The only good movie from disney nu wars was rouge one and that was just a copy of halo reach
>>
The second movie in the Disney trilogy is among the worst movies I've seen. It was really fucking bad and I can't understand how it got made. It got me to completely drop any new star wars. I haven't seen any new ones since and even if they do make a good one I still won't see it because the entire franchise should be eternally punished for that movie.

I feel the same way about star trek after watching a couple episodes of Picard
>>
>>218290610
It made me appreciate the prequels more.
>>
>>218291643
this right here was the hail mary pass of the ST trilogy. If Rey took his hand and that was the LAST time you saw them for that movie, even i would have been interested to see what happens next. But no, she says no and the status quo goes back to nothing. The rule of improv scenes is to never say no, it stalls a scene. Since they were writing these movies pretty much like improv, saying no here killed the entire trilogy.
>>
Rey is hot but the actress is terrible at acting the story had potential Palpatine resurrection was a good idea but the execution was awful
>>
>>218290610
Ben Swolo was a cool character.>>218290622
>>
The Sequels are horrible but the Acolyte is much worse the Acolyte is the worst audiovisual content i have ever seen
>>
>>218295770
palpatine was a terrible idea and it was terribly executed.

The real sequel trilogy that would have worked was simply lifting the Yuuzhan Vong arc and doing that instead. They would never do it though, as the Vong are basically Space Islamists who are anti-tech and the parallels would trigger the marxist retards into infinity and beyond.
>>
>>218291320
It's going to be so fucking funny to watch millennials mald in 10 years when all the little kids who grew up on the sequel trilogy become the majority on the Internet and start talking and making videos about how good they really were.
>>
>>218295815
you're fucking delusional, nobody cares about the sequels, these conversations will only ever happen in your deranged mind. Zoomers will continue watching tik tok you fucking retard.
>>
>>218293461
But a lot of people grew up enjoying both Star Wars and Star Trek. If you're one of them, as I am, then there's no sense of victory of relief in this. It just means you're getting fucked over twice. Absolutely raped and gaped by the dick of modernity.
>>
>>218295815
No kids grew up on the sequel trilogy, kids these days don't give two shits about star wars.
They're watching people playing video games or unboxing videos or some other shit on their phones.
>>
Never seen them, never will.
>>
>>218295746
It's hilarious that Johnson loves sucking his own dick about how subversive his movie was, yet this was the one chance he had to actually throw a curveball and have the heroine join the villain and he pussies out of it.
It's even funnier when you think how much both it and TFA foreshadowed Rey falling to the dark side on account of her being a moody, impatient bitch who's quick to anger.
>>
>>218290658
It's the same with everything. I'd equate it to wrestling. Yes, it's inherently stupid, childish nonsense but when you have The Rock doing it, it's cool and awesome but then you fast-forward to 2026 and it's just 90% percent fat and ugly women playing pretend on a ring while NPCs stare vacantly in the crowd as they perform sapphicism on ring just to appease a very, very small group of social media nutjobs and then you realize it's embarrassing to associate with and you never watch it again. Same thing with Star Wars post-2012.
>>
>>218290610
The movies themselves?
Knights of Ren were a good idea, but the knights themselves were underutilized.
Some designs were interesting, like the pirate guy from TFA and Poe's lady friend in TRoS.
The former stormtrooper faction in TRoS would be a cool idea if it was used in any way.
Heroes actually being together in TRoS (Rey doesn't meet Poe until the end of TLJ,).
TLJ was almost saved by Kylo and Rey teaming up, but nope.
BB-8 was fine
Kijimi the ice planet in TRoS
>>
>>218295469
Rogue One was still fucking cringe.
>movie about a story that doesn't need to be told
>the only supporting cast member who does anything really memorable is the blind monk
>all the others just have a few lines throughout the movie then die in the final battle
>Forest Whitaker devouring scenery with every line like he hasn't eaten in weeks
>god awful CGI Tarkin and Leia
>le heckin' epic Vader lightsaber corridor, oh my science
Mads and the villain guy are good in it, even if Mads is completely wasted, but that's really about it.
>>
>>218295815

Kylo Ren

Yeah, that's it. He's the only interesting character because Rian Johnson decided to kamikaze both Poe and Finn's character arcs in The Last Jedi.
>>
>>218291532
John Oogabooga isn't even a bad actor himself (the American Nigger entitlement attitude notwithstanding, despite being nationally British), but Finn's character arc was completely destroyed by Johnson in TLJ, irrevocably so. Same with Poe Dameron. I never even watched Rise of Skywalker but I could tell in the clips that Oscar Isaac was completely phoning it in and done with even remotely trying to salvage his character. Only Adam Driver had a somewhat satisfying character arc and conclusion.
Daisy Ridley cannot act and is pretty bad at fight choreography and her British genes gifted her with the odd Xenomorph facial and oral phenotype with absolutely no tits and yet an absolutely HUMONGOUS ass, thighs and hips that we the audience never even see. Seriously, if you never saw her face you'd think she was a poorly tanned Latina from the back with how huge that brapper is.
>>
Luke becoming a Yoda/Ben like figure.
Stormtrooper redemption and collaborators explored.
People holding out faith in the rebellion, Luke, the Force, etc was done way better with the knowledge of how pivotal it became in the setting whereas OT was pretty minor with just a few force be with you.
Hints at the wider political landscape of the setting, beyond criminal cartels all working with the evil regime; capitalists, centrists, victims of oppression without agency.
Poe is charismatic af and it's great to see a rebel pilot main character after half a century of them stealing the show for seconds of other films.
All the practical props.
Idk, the new shit wasn't bad for what it was but the issue is it's the second rehash of the OT.
>>
The lightsaber duels were generally more driven by emotion and more grounded. Kylo Ren punching his wound in the first film was a nice touch. The fight between Rey and Kylo in episode 9 also mirrors Luke's vision in the force cave. Despite being the "good guy" Rey is the one to ignite her lightsaber first and she's very much the aggressor. Because of this she fails, and Kylo could have killed her if he wanted to (which progresses his character). But, of course, they ruin it by having to give Rey her win by technicality because they just couldn't possibly have her ever actually lose a fight.
>>
For me, it's the fact that TFA was just as bad as the other two but it looked really good. It moved, looked and felt properly cinematic and it was a great experience just on that basis back in 2015. I hate Jew Jew, but I can't deny that his movies pre-2019 looked the part of blockbuster filmmaking. It's the same techniques Bay used, with low-tilted angles, flare lighting and etc. that really give it juice.
>>
>>218293359
Fair.
>>218298113
I agree. Finn was an innately interesting idea with a good actor and they squandered him from the fucking jump.
Former stormtrooper turned rebel could have had so much weight to it and made for a very cool arc but not by making him some weird cowardly simp.
Not to mention the dumb Vietnamese character they tied him to the hip to.
>>
>>218297696
i didnt like rogue one except for the vader scene, and that was utterly pointless, it should have been released as a free short on youtube/Yidney plus.

Rogue one was yet another retcon of established star wars lore, where was kyle katarn? the EU and the associated videogames were always wildly superior to anything churned out by the subhumans working at Yidney.
>>
>>218297964
the battles were ruined in the first 5minutes of the film, with that reddit-esque quippy argument with the general while Spic-pilot was dogfighting, and then they had the scene with the WW2 era bomber, with gravity-based bombs, in space.

Gravity-based bombs don't even exist TODAY, they ALL have various guidance systems now, its fucking star wars, wtf.

>>218298113
>I never even watched Rise of Skywalker
i recommend it, purely because its an utterly unique film. You will never, for the rest of your life, see a more aggressively polished turd of a film than Rise of Skywoker. Abrams PAINSTAKINGLY filled every scene with extreme care, incredibly expensive cgi, and as much "authentic" star wars everything possible.

They were soo desperately trying to overcome the dogshit plot and bad acting with aesthetics, and frankly the best cgi i've ever seen outside of an avatar film. Its fun to watch from an analytical perspective, i almost felt sorry for Jar Jar Abrams by the end of it, reading between the lines.

Does anyone ITT know if there's any truth to the following rumour?
That Lucas himself stepped in for Rise of Skywalker, and actually reshot scenes, added his own, and rewrote the ending, which apparently tested well with test audiences, better than any other ending they had, but Yidney torpedoed it for political reasons, which upset him greatly, which was why he didn't attend the premier like he did for the others?

Some redditor tryhard on youtube was shilling this 'leak', but nothing ever came of it after.
>>
>watch the first one
>it's basically A New Hope but soulless
>watch the second one
>it's do fucking retarded I realise the Empire was always in the right
>haven't seen the third one because I didn't want to subject myself to more of this retardation
I honestly don't get it. I like Sci-Fi. I even somewhat like Star Wars. But those two films felt like there were always a couple of suits involved in every single decision. And the worst thing was that the films were boring. Due to the heavy handed nostalgia, you felt you have seen it a thousand times already (especially the first film). Then the second film had such a retarded plot I wished the Empire would just win. At that point, they were in comparison at least halfway competent.
>>
>>218299244
i know that feeling, Snokes 2 minutes of glory was hilarious, its like i had personally written his dialogue, then they ruined even that.
>>
>>218299219
That's the first I'm hearing of the Lucas rumor. My understanding is that they boxed him out from the get-go because they wanted to minimize future payouts to him.
>Rise of Skywalker
It is a fascinating mess of a film I agree.
>strategically it's a huge mistake of trying to run back the entire middle of the story
>technically it is a superb film
>writing and plotting end up being the worst of all three
>Abrams and crew still put every ounce of effort they had in them to make it work and win back the fans
>In their desperate attempts to square the circle they accidentally make it a film for no one and make Last Jedi completely pointless
It's a masterclass in why Kennedy's vibe-based approach of making each film its own creature instead of one coherent vision was probably the worst thing they could have done.
>OT was slapdash but rescued by good production and staying close to its roots in pulps / flash gordon / kurosawa and westerns
>PT was generally far shittier but had one cohesive vision and knew what it was trying to say (this is why prequelfags hold it as so much better than it is - at the end of the day coherence is a real force multiplier)
>ST was slapdash like the OT but without George's autism to give it charm and divorced from its actual points of origin - it's a xerox of a xerox with no respect to the things that actually made the OT amazing
>>
>>218290610
Killed Star Wars, Daisy's and Oogabooga's careers. Crippled the EA videogames by association. Made filonitards get cocky and ended up bringing Ahsoka wank to wider audiences which, naturally, was a tremendous failure.

Quite literally not a single thing outside of Rey's theme.

Cope however you want JJ, not a single thing in the other 6 movies is as thoroughly retarded as the Holdo maneuver or "somehow Palpatine returned".

I love the Prequels. Always have, always will. I will never forgive George for selling out his life's work and his magnum opus because some DEI negress he got pussywhipped from told him to. Jesus, I can't believe it was all over pussy. What a waste.

>all the little kids who grew up on the sequel trilogy
Who? lmao the OT had the Thrawn Trilogy, a whole lot of comics, Shadows of the Empire... the PT had an absurdly huge number of expanded universe content from comics to shitloads of videogames to Genndy Wars to TCW. You had new alien designs, new interesting planets like Naboo, Coruscant, Kamino, Geonosis, Utapau, Mustafar, Felucia, Kashyyk, new cool as fuck ship designs, a plethora of Jedi lore and character/lightsaber designs...

What do the sequels have? Tons of people that liked TFA didn't like TLJ, and neither side liked TROS. It's been 11 years since TFA came out and the movie has done nothing but be seen *worse* the more the years pass. Nobody cares nor likes the ST. It's over.

I'm inclined to agree. That demographic will be ranting about Marvel movies and Fortnite when they're old, not the fucking sequels of all things.

This lol

George's sequels would've had it too, except it would've made them jihadists instead of magically having a giant army with a planet turned superweapon without any explanation.
>"When you win the war and you disband the opposing army, what do they do? The stormtroopers would be like Saddam Hussein's Ba'athist fighters that joined ISIS and kept on fighting. The stormtroopers refuse to give up when the Republic win. They want to be stormtroopers forever, so they go to a far corner of the galaxy, start their own country and their own rebellion. There's a power vacuum so gangsters like the Hutts are taking advantage of the situation, and there is chaos. The key person is Darth Maul, he brings all the gangs together."

Fuck Andor, Rogue One was mid as fuck, the characters were forced and boring, the plot was shit, and fuck you for making me even say it, go back to r*ddit. It would have been way better if i saw all the characters screaming-deaths terminator 2-nuke style. At least then i'd have closure for the 2 hours of my life that shit film took from me.

its ok, it redeemed itself as i can get it to say nigger no problem, even with the censor button on. Groks a prude, but a based prude.

I got the tourettes guy to ambush billie eilish on stage, had trump give her a box of bananas and rice and take her grammy, and had the whole crowd cheer when burger king tourettes boy screamed nigger. It's totally worth every penny now.

What a waste of energy, time and effort. You sound like a class a chimp

i agree, Rogue one was a waste of time, energy and effort. Not sure why you're mad at me though, we're on the same page, it was shit.

That would have been so much better.
>only surviving sith is a nobody who was more radical than all the others
>Warlords consolidate around bureacratic strength and ideology / Imperial patriotism rather than religion
>The New Republic now has to do the messy job of governing rather than the easy work of rebelling
Fucking kino
