7 Bond fans sit in a circle jerk
1 by 1 each fan speaks
"...Goldfinger"
"Goldfinger!"
"Goldfinger!"
"Goldfinger..."
"Goldfinger!!"
"Goldfinger"
The 7th fan pauses
"........Casino Royale"
The collective squeals in unison and to completion.
The End

Harsh but not entirely unfair. Past a certain age(15?)I think it's a bit silly to have a favourite James Bond film. They are what they are, and some are a bit better than others, and most people agree which are the better ones and which the worse.
I will die on the "Dolly is a babe" hill though.

>dr no isn't in dr no
fair critique, but when he actually comes on it's a bit too goofy to take him pretending to be chinese seriously. also dr no is so solid as an actual spy movie that i think the third act where it's more bond-ian actually ruins it

Live & Let Die is the best Bond flick.
>>
>>
You Only Live Twice should serve as what Goldfinger does for the series.
YOLT will knock people on their asses if it's their first Bond.
The only argument against it is that it's so dazzling that they might be disappointed by the subsequent Bonds they watch. Goldfinger leaves a lot of room for things to get better.
The first eighteen Bonds are all good, but Goldfinger's status only makes sense in that it was the real breakout commercially. I can understand that. But most of the other good eighteen Bonds are better than it.

Goldfinger was the right sort of mixture of the spectacular and the realistic. Some James Bond movies go overboard with fantastical elements, such as some of the Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan films, in particular. The George Lazenby, Timothy Dalton, and Daniel Craig movies mostly evade getting too fantastic, but the latter half of Craig's run as Bond got more and more excessive, generally. For Craig, Skyfall was arguably his best mix of realistic and over-the-top. Dalton's two films were very good, but quite different to each other, in various ways, yet he still managed to make it work as a more realistic and story-accurate Bond. Lazenby was of course only in the one movie, but what a film that was.

The mistake was including the plot with the solar chip thing. The premise the film leads with is Bond has been targeted by an assassin and therefore his missions are compromised, and so must deal with that threat before he can head back out. That's all the movie needed to be and it would have been amazing. The writers or producers or whatever for some reason decided there needed to be a world ending threat, so the twist was Scaramanga never gave a shit about Bond at all, and Bond just kept accidentally interrupting his plans to make a laser. The story got in its own way with the bait and switch.

Every man should have his ranking but you can tell who's faking when they say Goldfinger or Casino Royale is the best one. They just heard someone else say it or they're pretending to be brave and sophisticated.

It's funny, Casino Royale is one of my favorite movies, and it's an excellent action film. But it's barely recognizable as a Bond flick, though. Bond movies are simply a genre of their own. SPECTRE was the closest Craig got to a real Bond movie and that movie sucked ass.

I've always thought Goldfinger was overrated. It's great up until Bond is captured, and then it becomes incredibly dull.
>oh look Bond escaped and then was recaptured again by the korean guards! exciting stuff! Why won't old Man Felix Leiter rescue him?
Honestly I'd rather watch Diamonds Are Forever

That would be OHMSS.
Also, fuck every single boomer that disliked Lazenby as Bond.

The issue with Lazenby in this one is that he has to pretend to be retarded for half of the movie. He's a good enough Bond and can actually throw a punch instead of Connery's judo chops, but he's still the worst Bond because the others are just great (Craig movies aren't Bonds).

Every bond is great and plays the character differently
Connery played a pervert, he was an agent because it gave him access to money and women he would otherwise be unable to have. He was generally thought of as incompetent and unreliable. He was an agent because he enjoyed it.
Brosnan played a bond who did it for the love of queen and country. He pretended to be a bumbling old man to put his enemies off guard, then would snap into a sociopath. The most cold blooded killer bond once he dropped the act.
Dalton, the man who was never meant to be bond, played a bond that was a legitimate sociopath. He was a killer, and went down the career that gave him the opportunity to kill with impunity
>>
>>
>>218301637
Brosnan was a relic from the cold war. Everyone around him said that the world was changing and he was no longer needed, but he knew that the only thing that changed was the enemy. It had become less clear, more muddled and grey.
Craig played Bond as a weapon. His boss pointed him at a direction and he caused chaos and destruction. Groomed from childhood, his choices taken from him. Then when they thought he was no longer needed, was discarded. He was a tool, a piece of equipment, nothing more.

Based. Diamonds Are Forever has a lot of kino moments, it just came at an odd time when they weren't sure what they were doing with the franchise. Coming after Majesty, you get a sense of whiplash from the absurd tone but that strangely works in its favour. You can tell the director Guy Hamilton improved a lot as well since Goldfinger. The action scenes is a lot more technical, the sets feel larger, the campiness is tuned up but leveled by Connery's more sardonic performance. I honestly think the girls look better too.
