Hey,
I’m looking for a horror movie recommendation, but not the usual mainstream stuff. No classics, no super popular titles everyone already knows. I want something rare, obscure, and genuinely weird.
I’m talking about pure horror not horror-comedy, not just a thriller with some creepy vibes. I want something that feels deeply unsettling, surreal, disturbing, maybe even a bit experimental. The kind of movie that leaves you uncomfortable or questioning what you just watched.
The stranger and darker, the better as long as it’s still real horror.
Any hidden gems out there?

Hugely underrated one, give Session 9 a shot. It's a bit of a slow one but the atmosphere is unrelenting and the musical score especially is ridiculously unnerving.

I whaled a whole pizza and put this on. Ended up falling asleep and woke up to some face on the screen. Kind of freaked me out but needless to say I was one of the filtered because I found it very dull.

Probably not dark enough for what you're looking for but your image strongly reminded me of this.

Seen Dumplings? I'm not sure is it exactly obscure, it was somewhat well know in the 2000s.

It starts with the two cops bumbling about the cases and their lives, but it abandons the comedic when it goes deeper and deeper into the hellhole.

Return to Silent Hill. The way the movie was done applies to most of your requests. Puzzling stuff. Is the movie good, tho? Well, not really, I guess.

I remember a horror movie called yellow brick road, watched that ages ago and never heard of it again
but every now and then it pops back into my memory
it had such a weird vibe and story, unsettling atmosphere and all
it wasnt really a good movie nor a "hidden gem" but it had such irrational and disturbing scenes which made the whole thing just uncomfortable and confusing
some movies are just confusing cause they are bad
this wasnt bad it was okay, just strange

I've never seen a good Japanese horror movie. While better than American remakes, they are boring. Also, violence and perversion are not scary. Even if you are into this shit, movies don't come close to real footage. These movies are pointless.

Old ones that have the dirty messed up low budget look like the toolbox murders, incredible melting man, maniac 1980 and others bug me cause of thst vibe and darkness look and then how dark the movie is

Eh it's not really scary. Like most thrillers it just hingeson a plot twistwhich I do admit was interesting but not enough to carry the film. Most the middle part feels like filler and while I do like how the villain is explored I feel like the attempts at being "philosophical" fall flat. It would have worked great as a short film and I'm convinced people give it too much credit because it's foreign cinema.

Inland Empire (2006) feels like a never ending nightmare, not scary in the keeps you on your toes traditional sense, but more in the makes you uneasy and confused sense.
if you want something more obscure try A Visitor to a Museum (1989) for a journey into a apocalyptic burning hell world.
