Late 80s/early 90s Starfire was peak. Every other version is literally dogshit. Including the cartoon. Especially the cartoon.

>>218292578
Offenses in order:
1) In 2008, the pitch “What if <X superhero> happened in real life?” Was novel. Iron Man and TDK were lightning in a bottle. Then they kept making movies with that premise. Over and over again. It’s played out.
2) They conditioned a young movie going audience to expect 200 million dollar budgets from every movie they see in theaters.
3) When a book is successfully adapted into a movie, that book gets a second wind in an audience that was introduced to it. When a comic book gets turned into a movie, the comic book industry doesn’t see a rise in sales. When 300 was turned into a movie, many griped that Hollywood doesn’t respect comics any further than treating them like glorified storyboards.
4) They’re pro-military, pro-police propaganda. Anyone who challenges the state is portrayed as a villain. Tony Stark was a weapons dealer, TDK justified the Patriot Act, TDKR took Occupy Wall Street and made them Bane and his goons. The narrative argument of one person having the most power being good for everyone because they’re somehow morally or ethically superior is the same used to defend the US being the world’s police. The only movie / series to deconstruct this power fantasy was the Watchmen.
>>
>>
>>218292840
I can see your point with Watchmen, but then by doing it just like Moore envisioned, he unintentionally glorified Rorschach (and The Comedian to a lesser extent). Instead of owning up that such a character would be a natural consequence of Moore's proposed worldview in Watchmen, he decides to rib on the audience which just kind of shows how out of touch he actually was.

Every Marvel & DC movie that uses military bases, weapons, or vehicles need express approval from the US military for the entire script. Iron Man originally had Jeff Bridges say “We have soldiers who would kill themselves for this kind of tech!” And a general said “No change that. We have a real problem with veterans committing suicide.” So they had to change it to “they’d walk over hot coals for this tech”.

The dialogue is never funny. Subjective, but true. No wit. We're also burnt out on subversive vulgarity, if they even had the balls to try at that. We've already crossed every line, it's no longer thrilling.
Also, I'm not developing any feelings over cape people, and much of the movie is spent trying to do this. This is not tragedy, this is comedy, it's a fucking comic book movie.
I can enjoy a silly movie, I can enjoy a little bit of mindless action. But the writing is always so, so unfunny.

i like superhero movies. they're fun. if anything, i more dislike when the movies or their fans try to elevate them into something big or deep. i think this is why the dc stuff failed. they always aim for adults. i never saw those spider-man animated movies, but at least they knew the right audience.

Hasn't she been 17 for like 30 years, though? I don't remember the details, but I'm pretty sure she was a teenager while Superman was just a baby and she spent the time between Krypton's destruction and her landing on Earth in suspended animation or some time bubble or something.

I like the source material. Don't care for the movies all that much as they often deviate too much from the comics and the storytelling isn't as good on average, even if comics have lower lows as a whole.

early 90s seemed to be the peak. balance between quality art, seductive females, more realistic colouring, but still had enough story and things happening. mid to late 90s became the point where they'd have an 11 page comic with panels of nothing going on at all, and after three pages there would be a single word, then a full page advert then the end.
i really can't stand those. fifty issues before something happened. stylised rain drops

anyone see the special flash animations they put out maybe 20 years ago of the birds of prey or whatever they were called. it had Bruce timm style animation, barley quinn, poison ivy and another girl, they were in a prison cell in one of them. sort of semi animated, more like a moving picture book, but mostly static.

I love superhero comics. Superhero movies are embarrassing nonsense consisting of overpaid Jewish slaves playing pretend in silly costumes on a green screen. Superhero comics are awesome, at least were, and are the domain of the hot-blooded young white male and anyone hating them is a cuck, brown or both. No exceptions. The mixture of fantasy, sci-fi, real-world with endless characters, factions and powers to play with alongside the titilation from the women and the aspiration from the men is why superhero comics are the purest expression of a young straight cis white male's creativity and boundless love for storytelling.
It's the best medium of storytelling, bar none.

I think superheroes went to shit when some retard out there thought
>superheroes are humans too...
>and humans are... le bad....
>so that means... superheroes are bad too!!!
And then almost every fucking superhero work after that single idea turned into edgy bullshit where every superhero is a terrible person because the writer was bullied as a child
When Watchmen did it, it was cool and novel and not overdone but then everyone wanted to do the fucking same. The only other film to do it well was Incredible because it didn't reach the "humans are bad" conclusion, rather it just left it at "superheroes are humans too"

I didn't change my mind, the capeshit went bad. It's all cringe, it's not interesting, it's failing to be funny, it's childish in the worst way possible and then the final nail in the coffin was that it all went woke.

Yeah, kinda. I had known her for 30 years and she was always nice to me but two of my gfs despised her and now ik why. Long story short, she was batshit insane, convinced at least three others lived inside of her (I have a friend with actual DiD so ik when it's fake ass bullshit when I see it) and had convinced herself she had all sorts of maladies. None of which turned out to be true. It's...a really long story that no one here wants to hear I'm sure. Great d&d player tho but that's because she can channel crazy really well. She has her mom and dad fooled but they are starting to see the extent of it and basically cut her tf off, no contact, nothing. Her mother is equally batshit so the apple didn't fall far from the tree, yeah. I could fill this thread with the bullshit she did but I digress
>>
There is nothing wrong with superhero movies in principle. What I hate is factory-produced shoveled shit manufactured on an industrial scale. Marvel released something like 50 superhero movies in the span of about a decade. These are shot 90% in the same studio in LA in front of a green screen. They are creatively bankrupt, devoid of any artistic intent, repetitive, boring, pointless. They are the epitome of art as a consumer product.
I'm not ignorant to the fact that most movies are products, but these movies specifically are the vulgar extreme of that reality. The epitome of soulless.

Yeah it was. She told me that you don't bleed on someone that didn't cut you. I thought it was good advice. No, it was a warning about what she does to people. I told her that and she got so pissed because above all else, she's a narcissist. Everything about her is a performance. I'm glad we broke up although at the time I loved her deeply. I thought I could fix her but you can't fix something that is irrevocably broken. Everything she accused me of, she was herself. It became downright evil, how everyone was out to get her all the time, the victim mentality she's rode her whole life. I'd only read about this shit before her, never actually witnessed it first-hand. She's still playing the victim with her newest victim. I want to warn him but ik it wouldn't do any good. One gf that actually loved me tried to warn me about her and I wouldn't listen either. One of the worse things is that she got about 20-30k out of me, which was dumb af on my behalf. I ignored every single red flag she presented me. It was stupid. I just liked her so long, I never thought someone I had been friends with 30+ years would betray me. That's just me projecting though because I would never do that. It's so stupid, I wish I could forget this whole thing happened. I got a 21 yo girl that absolutely would give me the time of day but at this point I just can't. I'm way older than her and I know our outlooks just won't match. At this point, I wanna heal. I actually turned down a fmf threesome just because I want to heal so bad. The old me would have jumped on that. The new me put the brakes on it

At that time, they needed to sell comics, not rely on movies, and merchandising wasn't what it later became. So... they had to target the comic book-buying audience, the nerd, the fatty loser, the skinny guy with glasses and acne. Naturally, marvel/dc greedily saturated the market.

I stopped liking comic book films when they started being too faithful. There's nothing wrong with adapting something so that it makes more sense in film. And when an adaptation does differ from the source material, what you end up with is two complimentary works.
I don't like them anymore, but Scott Pilgrim is a nice example. They had to cut a lot out in order to fit seven books into one movie, so the twins for instance don't even seem like characters. I'm fine with this because I don't want Scott Pilgrim to be 3 1/2 hours long and I don't believe we would have ever gotten the sequel if they'd tried splitting it up. And besides cutting stuff there are some substantial changes. In the movie he ends up with Ramona but in the books he ends up with Knives. I don't feel like the movie neither ruins not fixes the ending, just compliments it as a companion piece. Ultimately the movie cannot be seen as a replacement for the books. I don't even like this franchise anymore though.
Yes I am a Super Mario Bros. (1993) chad.

I understand that it is a fiction, but what would be a real life analogy to that? In Europe it's outright illegal, in US I suppose it depends on the state but I've never heard of a legitimate officially registered and operating non-profit organization that positions itself as an anti-lgbtq.

>Instead of owning up that such a character would be a natural consequence of Moore's proposed worldview in Watchmen, he decides to rib on the audience which just kind of shows how out of touch he actually was
Not familiar with everything Moore has said on the topic but the easily findable quotes don't conflict with your view necessarily, unkempt edgelords who see Rorschach as a "badass" are worthy of contempt.
It's easy to be uncompromising when you're dealing with killer pedos but, as the finale proves, two individuals can have vastly different ideas about what constitutes "good", and different abilities to predict the long-term outcomes of their decisions.

Several reasons come to mind. Aesthetically i prefer comic movies that account for the source medium. I don´t want realism, i want Burton´s Gotham, Dick Tracy´s exaggeration and emotional color, Sin City´s stylized use of contrast and simplified shapes. I find capeshit cinematographic universes really add nothing to the medium. I understand this is inherent to the nature of cinematographic universes because certain degree of consistency is needed but i don´t like it.
Another reason is that i like stand alone movies. I like things to end, i like stories to be meaningful, i like films that can defend themselves. With cinematographic universes you have to watch to other movies, a tv show, 3 comics and read a specific tweet from 2017 to have all the information for things to even make sense. It´s impossible for me to emotionally connect with such disjointed logic.
Finally capeshit always shy away from lasting consequence. The movies end where they should start. I don´t want a sad cemetery scene. I want an exploration of what the character is feeling and what someone in an extraordinary situation is doing to cope. The sort of fragility that makes even the strongest of heroes as weak as everybody else. I mean, not exactly that but something meaningful you know? Something that´s more than yet another world saving story.

But I do like superhero flicks, it's just that most movies that come out nowadays suck because their characters and writing have been flanderized into repetitive and unfunny humor. I love a good chunk of the pre-endgame MCU films and I really liked GOTG3 and that recent Superman film. I like it when the movies are willing to put aside the humor for heartfelt moments and not suddenly cut to humor the last second to break the tension

I know money doesn't equal quality but there's no denying this genre had made billions of dollars and a lot of people filthy fucking rich. I honestly stopped caring about fidelity to the source material because I realized early on that was never gonna happen. I used to bitch about inaccurate costumes, horrible casting, terrible mischaracterization etc. and then I just stopped giving a fuck. Comics are terrible in consistency anyway so wanting the movies to adhere to any sense of meaning or even internal logic is just a fool's errand at best, stupidly naive at worst. Picrel et al was my bible for years, I'd read them cover to cover at least a hundred times apiece and even developed a trrpg for my group based on the avengers alliance games, faserip, and other sources only for no one in my group to ever express interest in it. And they love superhero shit. I could write a superhero movie at this point, and I feel it might echo watchmen a little bit. I would stick to the genre so hard it would be universally derided. I could not water it down for normies to save my life. I doubt I could make even /co/ happy. I might be hardcore but they make me look like a toddler fumbling at my mother's apron strings.

There aren't any. Regardless, you fall into the trap of believing them and their words, or assigning them any rational value. Before Rowling became Mengele's heir buying a Harry Potter product meant supporting an "ally," a woman who did a lot for the community, an empowered woman. After... her fall, every time a Harry Potter related product comes out, you can check twitter for the usual suspects with their "if you buy this, you're funding anti-LGBT products". They even do it with the original previously praised books and have the nerve to now say "I always knew Rowling was a terf".

Friend, these movies going overboard with the comedy/lack of sincerity isn’t a new thing. I remember how pissed off people were with Iron Man 3 that it was basically a comedy that didn’t take itself seriously at all.

Yeah that became a problem pretty much right around Avengers
