>The original UK ending of the descent was considered too scary for American audiences so they had to create an alternative special happy ending for the US release of the movie
What causes Americans to be so weak, spineless and pathetic?

Happy endings are based and they contribute to living a better life. Europoors want to live in poverty under a sunless sky eating raw potatoes because they are sad bitter hopeless people. This mentality 8s reflected in all their awful artfag movies.

They didn't have to create anything. They just cut out the final 2 minutes of the movie.
Also, American ending ultimately prevailed, since it's the basis for the sequel
>b-but the sequel is shit
But it was made anyway, so?

I couldn't believe it when I read that MASH went out with a laughter track in America.
It must feel bad when the shows creators trust the intelligence of audiences from other countries, but not their own.

This. Oh you just watched this guy overcome hardships for two hours straight. Well fuck you he dies in the last scene. If you can't make a bad ending that fits with the narrative and the story don't be a piece of shit doing it for shock value or as a cheap twist

She lives at the end, she just doesn't escape. She already showed the ability to kill an endless stream of troglodytes in 1v1. The problem is the false escape scene. That direct fakeout is European-style, it looks cliche to American eyes. When you mess with the viewers' level of immersion, it makes them question the whole experience, not good for an effects-driven horror film. I think the scene is kino and the american cut ends suddenly, but the change makes sense and doesn't ruin the movie either.

It's 100% meh. The skull thing works at different magnifications and looks cool, factually. Artists have been doing that shit for 1000 years and it's so played out, it's lame in that way. I don't think they're sexualized on the poster though.

Also this. I don't know if the american ending actually made the cut or not, but it's surreal and almost look like the chinese Fight Club ending

They are dumb. Americans are purposefully undereducated so that the billionaire class can continue to con them into lifelong bondage by voting against their interests (they even accept a two-party system, the morons).
Not only are most of them thus too dull to appreciate nuance and that not all things end happily, but the happy endings also reinforces the illusion that everything will be OK in the end and that they won't, in reality, spend their entire lives wageslaving for some corporate master only to die from heart disease at 45.

this perfectly explains why a grim ending is needed in fiction.. films are messages, nodes of awakening our deeper thoughts. by watching the descent, our brains are reattuned to reality that not all things end happily. it is that darkness and misery that allows us to face the true evil of life and make a better change. thus it's not really fiction but something more important

It wasn't a happy ending, and two, it wasn't because it was too scary, just too bleak.
Funny enough, the new ending they made was ultimately made canon, since a sequel was created later where the MC escaped.

The scariest part of the movie for Americans is the fact that the protagonists had to walk. They left the kinopex in droves on their mobility scooters.
