Elam Ferguson's death is just the weirdest fucking thing I've ever seen in a tv show.
he ends season 3 getting mauled by a bear, by the middle of season 4, after everyone just accepted he died, it's revealed that he survived but got all fucked up, spent months under the care of indians and is now insane because the bear bit straight into his frontal lobe.
Then he starts believing he's some sort of injun god, tries to sell slaves in Cheyenne despite being a former slave himself, and gets killed by Cullen.
I get it that they were trying to do some drama of him being brain damaged and having to be put down since he was no longer himself, but why not just let the bear kill him?
it feels like Common wanted out of the show, so the production decided to kill him in the most retarded way possible, and in the middle of that, thyey decided it should also be serious and dramatic, but it just came out as goofy.

he was actually decent at it, at the start at least, season 1 tries to set him up as the black version of the main character, Cullen Bohannon, played by Ansom Mount, by season 2 he kinda settles to a sidekick for Cullen, but still has his own plots, season 3 for him is basically pure drama, his former prostitute wife gives away the white baby from her previous marriege that he had adopted as his own, he turns to booze,blah blah blah, and he gets mauled by a bear while trying to rescue Cullen from Mormons that kidnapped him.
