If you can avoid chudding out for an hour and a half this is actually a pretty good movie

The barbie-only parts were shit, the ken parts were kino, the monologue about how women are oppressed was cringekino
>>
I can just accept that a Barbie movie wasn't made with me in mind and go my whole life never watching it

>accidentally makes ken way more likeable and sympathetic

Nah it sucks. Half assed attempt to use a doll brand to appease social gripes. Felt as plastic and fake as the shit it was based off of

the metaphor reveal-flip at the very end when Barbie realized she was not even a character in her own movie was brilliant

Barbie herself enables the story, which is the important part. it was exactly perfect for the "toy" tie in

>>218308785
>I can just accept that a Barbie movie wasn't made with me in mind and go my whole life never watching it
The Barbie Movie was like The Lego Movie, where you THINK you know what it's about, but really it's about something completely different.
it's ironic that even now, everybody THINKS the Barbie movie was about "muh woman oppression speech" but...
[spoilers!]
it's really about "what do I do with my life?" I won't spoil the answer, but it's in the movie
>>
>>218308873
>actually use Ken and make it how men are below the women in society and how they deserve better
>all the Barbies become subservient to the Kens
>a couple women decide they need to ruin everything for all women despite how happy they are and make the men be out to be bad guys
Lmao who wrote this shit? It literally made Ken to be an underdog you're rooting for and how all the Barbies are pieces of shit
>>
>>218308785
why does something have to be made for you to watch it?
>>
>>218308922
Because it's a movie about a toy for little girls and I have never been one of those.

nothing she said was wrong, if they could find a way to do it in a non cringe way it would be better. Maybe if they had Ken say it from a male pov we would be cool with it amiright

No, thanks. I am not gay.

“It is literally impossible to be a woman. You are so beautiful, and so smart, and it kills me that you don’t think you’re good enough. Like, we have to always be extraordinary, but somehow we’re always doing it wrong.

You have to be thin, but not too thin. And you can never say you want to be thin. You have to say you want to be healthy, but also you have to be thin. You have to have money, but you can’t ask for money because that’s crass. You have to be a boss, but you can’t be mean. You have to lead, but you can’t squash other people’s ideas. You’re supposed to love being a mother, but don’t talk about your kids all the damn time. You have to be a career woman but also always be looking out for other people.

You have to answer for men’s bad behavior, which is insane, but if you point that out, you’re accused of complaining. You’re supposed to stay pretty for men, but not so pretty that you tempt them too much or that you threaten other women because you’re supposed to be a part of the sisterhood.

But always stand out and always be grateful. But never forget that the system is rigged. So find a way to acknowledge that but also always be grateful.

You have to never get old, never be rude, never show off, never be selfish, never fall down, never fail, never show fear, never get out of line. It’s too hard! It’s too contradictory and nobody gives you a medal or says thank you! And it turns out in fact that not only are you doing everything wrong, but also everything is your fault.

I’m just so tired of watching myself and every single other woman tie herself into knots so that people will like us.”

Ken was the only reason this movie was good.

Also damn America Ferrera has aged so much. I didn't recognize her until after the movie was over and I looked up the credits. She's developed that voice that all latinas get when they hit 40.

the simple act of wiggling my body parts around to a rhythm and bright colors don't really do anything for me and that is this movie's idea of fun. since it does not share the same conception of fun that I do, I do not think it is fun. It's also bog standard as far as technical production and cinematography go, so there's nothing at all in this movie for me.
>>
>>218308738
the only scenes worth seeing have ken in them

a majority of these standards, not all, are imposed by women themselves

I wish we got to see the R rater cut and the ending that was more even handed about both sexes needing each other rather than the glib girl power bullshit we got.

But no, this isn't kino. It's barely amusing slop.

great production design though

It wasn't well written, funny, witty, or engaging. The music was bad too except for the Billie Eilish track and Ice Spice & Nicki Minaj remix of Barbie Girl. Why do you think someone is obligated to like something because of their political leaning?

The thing is they clearly had too many writers trying to make their own personal version of what Barbie's story should be and as a result it's a mishmash of surface level ideas that never digs in any direction.
Ken's plot on the other hand has a pretty clearly defined arc so they were able to build on its themes and actually explore the male characters. I didn't go into this movie wanting to walk away having only liked the Ken parts, but unfortunately that's the only part of the movie with any real direction.

I've actually known a few women who didn't like the movie. They're Barbie fans who liked the costumes but hated that Ken was the """"villain""". The movie seems to alienate actual longtime fans, those types of girls who grew up watching Barbie cartoons, seeing Barbie ride horses, date Ken and stuff. It's kind of like Star Trek fans seeing their IP be co-opted by people who don't really know Star Trek.
>>

>>
>>218309288
Seriously all of this can be answered with a "sounds like a you problem".

And women write crap like this without ever realizing that failing to live up to arbitary self-imposed expectations doesn't even lead to a failure state for them.
There is no "now you are a loser and people avoid you" for women like there is for men. It's absurd how they gaslight themselves into believing society treats them harsh, or comparable to how it treats boys and men.

I went to see this one two months after release, after the hype died down, to see what the fuss was all about. It was a difficult theater experience, nobody laughed at the "jokes", i nodded off for 20-30 minutes in the middle and didn’t miss much.
All the moments that should have gotten audience reactions fell completely flat. And some ladies were here too.
Everybody left dumb founded on how this grossed more than a billie.
I guess it wasn’t made for me, but it was truly a weird theater experience.

you arent responsible for their lack of control.

>never be rude
correct. once again, basic manners.

nothing wrong with excellence and incidentally standing out, but we all know that there is a difference between that and "showing off". dont be a show off.
>never be selfish
you have to take care of yourself, but again, basic manners includes consideration for others.
>never fall down, never fail, never show fear, never get out of line
again, says who? these are normal parts of life. this is just spoken from a place of fear and insecurity with one's self.
>It’s too hard!
life IS hard, but men and women have been doing it for tens of thousands of years. grow up.
>It’s too contradictory
its not, you're just retarded. see all of the above.
>nobody gives you a medal or says thank you
why should you get a medal for having basic manners and just not fearing failure? that shit is the bare minimum, not accomplishment.
>And it turns out in fact that not only are you doing everything wrong, but also everything is your fault.
well when you approach it with the mentality that you've displayed so far... yes, that IS how things work. you're fundamentally wrong. be better.
>I’m just so tired of watching myself and every single other woman tie herself into knots so that people will like us
