I don't see point in playing these games. I prefer to let them release and play only those of critical acclaim that are actually worth my time.
Why do some people love playing these early release titles?

Finally cleared this shit. Abusing the wide iframe windows is key but there is a bit of a delay before it starts I think.
Really sloppy bit at the end there, idk how that up attack hit the last big round guy below me. I've had some weird things happen with taking damage at odd diagonals but that was the only time I've seen it in my favor.

Ammossum is ALMOST a good game, but the gameplay basically boils down to
>did you get a good weapon? no? game over.
And the only way to get a weapon is to buy one from a store, and most of the time it'll be selling shit you don't need. It's a solid idea that needs a lot more fine tuning. Also, I find it crazy that the first character is hands down the strongest. Guns >>>>> bows/melee/etc
>>
>>733909815
It got a fairly significant graphical improvement and the new demo added more stuff. But if you didn't like the original demo you probably won't have your mind changed and may God have mercy on your soul.

Well, what makes it silly is that you are given a starter weapon depending on the character.
All of the other character's starter weapons are quite bad, except for the gun guy. Upgrade his gun once and you are set for the whole run. And the evolutions for the bullets are much stronger than the evolutions for any other ammo type, from what I can tell.

I've never been a fan of RE.
I like adventure games and I like old point & clicks. The first have a certain charm to them I admit, but even they are awkward and slow to control in ways I feel like they never needed to be. I often hear people claim it contributes to the atmosphere, but when even the King's Quest games are smoother and swifter to navigate, then something is off. Being slow and feeling weak when there are threats around is one thing, but exploring the place because you're trying to figure out where to go. Especially if you get lost or make the wrong decisions, going back and forth or in circles trying to find progress. That's fucking dreadful when the movement is like controlling a slug.
And then with 4, they upped the action element significantly. But the movement was still restricted, as if you had a ball&chain ankle weight stuck to your foot. Not a pleasant combination.
Also. I don't get the appeal of games trying to induce panic.
How did the "horror genre" grow so fucking popular? Maybe I am indeed some little bitch or something. But seeing intense tragedy or panic on-screen, even ignoring reflexive jump-scares, is not something I'd categorise as entertainment.
But I guess Resident Evil, even so, has become one of the most recognizable and lauded games of the medium. So I'm the odd one out I guess.
>>
Tried Undertaker, Arms of God and Cargo Hunters. I like cargo hunters cause you can chop up other robots and attach their limbs to you. Also tried that janky ass serbian shooter (A.A.U?) but the gunplay is dogshit. Tried Windrose too but it feels like a mobile title.
>>
>>
>>733910727
The acrobatic movement works pretty well with a jester player-character. And the shit-eating grin on the mask is kind of fun as you tear through enemies.
I didn't know they were making a sequel. But that's awesome to see. I liked the first game.

>Heavy Metal Death Can
Played with tank controls. I went in a little wary and was pleasantly surprised, got a good jump out of me at the expected spots, and the key hunting wasn't too bad if you're like me and sweep every room. Didn't wishlist though.
Ultra-0
I was having a tough time really seeing what was on the screen at some points, and it didn't help how fast you move, but that's a small complaint for what was a short and sweet demo that seems promising. Wishlisted.
>Kisaragi
Pure Unity Kusoge Kino.
WASD, space bar, left click, game resolution: fit the screen. Then you go out and kill, do you really need more? He also left in the whole map but you have to walk along a set path to get enemies to spawn so it's just an empty world with no music.
Easy $3, but will probably end up way too expensive.
>>
>>733911339
I thought it felt awful to actually play. Too much chatter. Clunky movement and combat. They gave him the Alucard backstep and slapped parry frames on it, but without any of the smoothness of Castlevania. Was overall not a fan.
Solataria was another metroidvania that I tried, which is very clearly Ori and the Silksong Forest, Fire People Edition. It felt a little better to play than Fallen Tear, but still had a little bit of polish needed.

File: CICADAMATA level 2 40k points.webm (3.8 MB)
3.8 MB WEBM
https://files.catbox.moe/9kvvpl.webm
Going slower and even making "mistakes" gives you more points in cicadamata, compare the two videos. I don't know why the movement or railgun is there when efficiency in killing enemies fast penalizes your score, I think this is going to seriously hurt levels down the line. The timer bonus needs to be doubled and there also needs to be a "no damage" bonus at the end to compensate imo. The game is too boring if you just stop, stomp or shockwave enemies that can barely react to you. Aiming poorly on purpose actually helps you gain more points too
The last level of the demo is a slog to go through because of this, the only challenge is keeping the ZONE bonus active. Good game but there's a lot that needs to be redesigned, Neon White felt much better to play both as a speedrun game and puzzle game because of the resource management. Those aspects are present in cicadamata too but much less, it's only about managing cooldowns and positioning to optimize routes
>>
>I Won't Let You Level Up In My Goblin Town
Is a silly game, toss what your warrior goblin needs and let him battle. It does feel annoying losing, specially against the mage but that feeling goes with this type of busywork games. going around in a haste or your goblin dies. I liked it. i'm curiosu what other things it could add, like more guards or a bigger town.
Also checked the dev and they are making Aren Breathes which is a classic survival horror with a mech in mars, something tells me Goblin Town isn't the passion project.
>Ruin Beast City
It wasn't bad but I don't see myself playing it. I'm not a fan of this kind of combat which is a simon says. I did like Sekiro a lot but this ain't no Sekiro.
>Eagle Knight Paradox
It was fine, the demo may have been a tad short but it showed well what it has to offer, The boss fight was easy and the strong flying enemies are an absolute pain in the ass. The plot may get retarded though.
>Children of Birch
I didn't like it, the movement feels like you are on a permanent ice level and the shake everytime you hit an enemy is annoying to no end. I didn't finish the demo, it didn't appeal me at all.
>Mecha force
Is a fps roguelike that plays a bit like Hades I think? you get your weapons, upgrades after clearing a level, which you buy with money but get as many as you want as long as you have the money. The dodge is pretty good but walking suck ass, is so slow that is useless, might ass well just stand there and it won't be that big of a difference as it should be. Best part was the girl that talked in a strange accent and called correlata.
>>
>>733912819
Heh so he's that mechdev? nice. I liked that game years ago, he hasn't posted it recently. I don't mind if it's a project to get funding, you gotta do what you gotta do. better than sitting on your ass selling cable tv to boomers or whatever.

If you like >roguelite deckbuilder's or Backpack Battles, I'd recommend keeping Evoluth on your radar, I think it's got the potential to go far but it's make or break depending on how it handles future item + enemy design, as is the case with the genre. That being said, it's kind of unintuitive if you go in treating it as a Backpack Battle-like in spite of its immediate appearance, since it's moreso mechanically a deckbuilder using the interface of an inventory management battler.

Shuanshuan is unironically the emotional core of the game. I went in thinking it'd be some annoying gimmick character and instead he’s just a polite little dude trying his best while the world is falling apart around him.
It helps that his animations are comfy as fuck. The way he waddles after you when idle makes it impossible to stay cynical. Devs knew exactly what they were doing. Sometimes the “it’s just a cute boy companion” bit works because they don’t overcook it with Marvel-tier quips.
Glad you saw the light, anon.

>Bobo Bay
Straight up SA2 chao garden ripoff as a full game. Scavenging for money/fruit's kind of boring, consisting of just a few tiny random islands with fruit and boxes to open (Though the full game seems to promise this gets expanded with new areas and more stuff to do). Competitions are also really tough, I kept getting high level stuff when all I have are babies, I only won 3 times for the entire demo and one of those wins was my ghost bobo just cheesing the competition by phasing through the blocks. Also releases pretty soon. wishlisted, I need more of this and SEGA seemingly despises chao.
>Prolegomena
Looks like an interesting fourth wall breaking game but clearly not designed for linux so I can't do shit. Try it yourself.
>Denshattack
Kino. onrails Skate but on a train with MGR-tier absurdity going on. wishlisted
>Sushi Derby
pet racing game where you buy and train living sushi. Sorta fun, but you're expected to constantly rotate sushi because they have "freshness" which lowers stats every day. Needing to constantly rotate means there isn't much in terms of building your pet
>airframe ultra
race+brawler where you race to an arena, beat the shit out of eachother, then hop back on the bikes and repeat until someone reaches the point limit. Really fun and chaotic. But also desperately needs an offline mode, these kinds of indie games don't have staying power.
>Sakura Arms
1v1 combat card game where you choose two characters and make your own deck with a mixture of each character's cards. Played this a lot on TTS with friends and it's great seeing this get its own release, it's adapted really well. The demo's online only but there seems to be offline modes locked on the main menu, including the rules. Indeed, you're gonna have to go read the rulebook outside of the game first to play this one. Weird choice. Wishlisted

>Mightyrea
Spectacle fighter with a superhero kicking ass while some streamer chick records her for clicks on not-youtube. Played this last week and the camera sucked and controlled like shit. This week they fixed that and now it's actually rather fun though I feel like I'm retardedly buttonmashing 1/2 the time. Wishlisted.
>Boost Vector EX.
On foot racing where you go FAST AS FUCK, but it either has bad controls or I suck at it. Can't go fast for long and the disparity between normal speed and boost speed is massive. Apparently used to be a ROBLOX game that's now breaking out of that hellhole.
>Dead Watch
Mystery game where (you) timeloop whenever you see Lumi dead. Neat idea and I like a mystery having literally zero handholding. Also loved OutCore and this has the same kind of humor. Do wish there was a bit more of a time limit to make things more stressed: because you only have to see Lumi to trigger the loop, you can just avoid her room and pretty much do 80% of the puzzles in a single run even after she dies. Wishlisted.
>Deep Zero Delivery
Delivering stuff to bases in your tank while driving through an arctic wasteland. Very comfy.
>Spot Zero
Action combat rougelike. Probably the worst thing I played this fest. If this isn't a gacha it must've been a last minute decision to pull out because it certainly feels like one. Characters have rarities, combat's the usual 1 attack, 1 skill, ult, dodge. Equipment's the usual random stat bullshit. Actual dogshit. All the sounds are crunched for some reason, enemies have literally no reaction to attacks, there's horrible lagspikes when new mobs load in and the game drops down to 20fps on my 4070tiS when there's too many of them. >>733922916
The level collision is unfortunately a pretty massive issue, yeah. Legit reason to tap out and honestly I may have bailed if it happened to me early in my playtime. I was lucky in that I didn't encounter it until I was fucking around and exploring after finishing the demo. Like I said, jank.
I wouldn't say the mechanics really get *considerably* more involved. You don't get any new movement abilities in the desert that weren't in the prologue, but you can definitely feel the combat start ramping up. Even if IMO the combat is one of the weaker parts.
There's also a decent amount of exploration and hidden/off the part shit.
It's 100% not going to be to everyone's liking, but I really dug it

A lot of devs keep the demos up but if anyone retracts their demo you can shitlist them for denying you the opportunity.
Only acceptable reason is if they depend on a central server that they are closing down or if the demo no longer is representative of the full game.

Following that game's development has been the funniest shit, I don't think I've ever been so interested in a game I have no interest in playing. They didn't update the manual for the actual release from the demo. The Nazi Rocket Scientist bit was pretty hilarious. He's on reddit right now, making up more excuses about how people are conspiring against him, even though the game has actually been released after constant delays that were never his fault.

Very well made although I encountered a few bugs. Feels unfocused, it's hard to split your attention between your own tank and all the other troops. Feels like most of the game is happening on the map screen which isn't very interesting to look at. Maybe I was moving my troops too far ahead. Very cool premise though.

Thanks for the heads up anon, that one never showed up across the hundreds of demos I browsed through.
Anyway, having just finished it, the game looks great, but the gameplay is pretty shit. There's way too much combat for how simplistic and awkward it is and the second boss was a massive damage sponge that wasn't threatening in the slightest. The ranged aiming is also flat-out broken. I don't think I'd be able to stomach a full game of that.

i was disappointed by the demo. it's just some rpgmaker slop. you can't see from the trailer but there is this misalign with the artstyle, the items you pick up are more detailed than the pixel style should permit, it looks janky.

Because literally all EN dubs of anime are low budget and hire from the same incestuous pool of retards
Historically the US media diet was already in English/domestically made, so the burger dubbing industry is underdeveloped as fuck (relative to market size) and anybody vaguely capable will beeline for Disney/WB/AAA publisher bucks and never look back. The people left playing 14 year old Japanese cartoon girls are basically the dregs of voice acting.

To be honest after playing cicadamata more, my initial assessment has evolved. Score attack is actually not that boring once you realize "aiming unoptimally" becomes its own new challenge, sort of.
Maximizing the points you can obtain by reducing the HP of enemies before using the dash as a killing blow while saving as much time as possible is kinda fun. Like >>733936890 said, accepting that the game is different from its inspirations was the solution.
Unintuitive and different for me but fun, still I'd much prefer if the focus was on murderous efficiency like in Neon White so to speak and I think it's normal for people to see things this way.
Also, looking at the steam forum discussions and reviews of the demo from better players, I'm not the only one who felt that way at first. The dev might already be aware of this feedback without my input.

Shifting Sands sucks. It looks nice but it's just dull and grindy. Each day you depart to check out a couple tiny areas, fight a few enemies, pick up some worthless scrap (scavenging anything better has a tiny success rate), and have to return right away because you're already low on energy and grains after like four minutes. AOKAKI was cool. My gameplay is not the best since I'm tired but imagine if you were playing ninja gaiden ragebound or hollow knight for the gameplay, with an added parry. Cool setting, graphics and music for what it is, potential for classic fun.
I realize it's pretty funny I mentioned hollow knight because the ninja protagonist and all characters involved seem to be bugs, arachnids and whatnot.

Thanks for the attention, to be honest I find the "god like it" a bit of a cop out itself.
My own attempt is the gamey "people do in fact have natural magic hit-point, clothes/armor increase that magic the more you like them". Still dreaming of something more organic, like outfit looking crazy because clothiers discovered a chaotic spell to see someone's perfect outfit so fitting it boost all stats.
Thought, a pervert godusis still involved.

IIRC in one of the old star wars tabletop rpgs you had an almost kind of "shield" and you only took health damage once that was depleted. But it wasn't actually a shield but essentially your luck/ability to evade shots. So even though an enemy would roll and land a hit on you, canonically it wouldn't actually hit your character, and it just depleted your luck shield or whatever it was called. Thought it might be kinda like that, but I get seeing a god as a cop out

So long as it is quantifiable, I don't mind the "shield" being portrayed as being "fated to evade death" for a time. With inevitable weakness so you just can't ignore a blade slicing your neck.
To be fair, my "the more you like it" is a cope out I shouldn't accept. A proper setting should have a clusterfuck of rules like "liking it or not, what's really important is having gems, or magic fabric, in certain proportion, compatible with your soul, and if you position them wrong it has critical weakness to cringe, and some women just can't cover their boobs or it gimp their magical field"
Fuck midi-chlorians tho.

Just played 'BOMBUN'
Was kinda a fun lil 3d platformer. Might pick it up later.
Tried 'Weathering realms'. Fun concept but the controls were stiffer than my dick last time your mom came over. Difficult to get used to but there could be something there.
Did a run of 'Interdimensional vending machine'. I just staved to death and nothing interesting happened other than i made a girl eat centipedes and leeches.
'Super beast world' was fun. A slightly bullshit precision rage platformer though.

I played a bunch of local co-op games with my bro and I regret it.
>Bobls
This one is good, is a co-op, is a presicion puzzle platformer where you help each other with by shooting bubbles and dealing with the mechanics, it was fun, the music was good and had that DOS game feel to it too. I recomend it.
>Alien Strike: Blasting the Intruders
A contra except it feels and plays as a stale cracker. visualy boring, gameplay didn't add anything new and was sub-par compared to even the original Contra.
>Nullpoint Protocol
So yeah a roguelike with space furries, a long as fuck which thankfully is skipable and a long tutorial. The game works like shit, doesn't preload anything so is always skipping and feels strange and thankfully it crashed before we could even play it.
Living Dead House
This was is a nice little game, a bit like Bubble Bobble and snowbros but with zombies and getting items to kill them, barricade the windows and using the enviroment so you don't get overwhelmed, not much to say but is fun at least.
>Cursed Blood
This one was promising with ninja monkeys and shit but instead is a confusing lagging mess in which slashing an enemy makes blood splatter everywhere and confuse you. maybe w should have changed the quality. In any case, is a visually confusing roguelike in which taking a 100 coin cursed me and made corpses become tesla coils and it sucked balls.

Fun demo. I only played the gauntlet mode.
I like how easy it was to go from low to max hp and how I didn't have arbitarily unparryable red attacks, but even just did got repetitive with how much I was spamming the same loop of 3 hit launcher downer spell. Not sure the two spell slots really adds much to the game too. Just makes the small moveset even more apparent.
>>
Tried Cargo hunters. I enjoyed it considering I suck at shooters. It has nice babby friendly shit like having oi mt it's noisy in dat direction lights, The AI does do sensible shit like duck for cover and flank around. I didn't get a proper taste of the loop though because for some reason they don't have the vendor available so I can't flog this primo junk I picked up and turn it into firepower. Also you're going to need a checklist of parts worth salvaging because the game's not going to tell you at a glance if that's a nice arm or not.

Pretty cool sandbox first person RPG.
The magic schools (Alteration, Conjuration, Psychic and Elemental) and items, the setting and the "solve your problems with magic" world/dungeon design are clearly inspired by Morrowind, but the rest of the gameplay is closer to modern games.
Combat gameplay uses the standard "light attack, heavy attack, block, parry, dodge" pack but you still need to level up your weapon/armor skills of choice to avoid combat penalties.
Your character have 5 attributes, 15 skills (you can "tag" 3 of them, like old Fallout games) and 2 traits (your character's background, like "mercenary" or "aristocrat"). Your race (3 of them) and your tagged skills will affect your starting skill levels, and you will gain more skill points as you level up. Attributes, skills and traits are also used for skill checks (dialogues, lockpicking/pickpocketing, interacting with objects in the world).
The demo has two dungeons, one town, one main quest and one sidequest. You can beat it in an hour or so if you don't rush it.

Starts simple but with a terrific feel. Slowly builds and give you more abilities. But the fluid dash, lunge and parries are the meat and potatoes. A 2D nu-GoW X Astlibra mix maybe?

The sword hero dev has a collab with them during this fest, you can find two sword hero related items which will carry on into the full game
I have no fucking clue what that would be though.
I thought Ardenfall felt a tad stiff like, you're emulating a 22 year old game, you are allowed to improve on the game feel a bit. The characters look hideous but the writing seems decent.

Wordle roguelike. You spin a set of 3 reels, 1 for correct letters, one for correct letter wrong space, and one for wrong letters. Effects are damage enemy, damage you, heal. Winds up causing weird incentives to not get the word correct, which I didn't enjoy at all.

Dice Odyssey
https://store.steampowered.com/app/4093860/Dice_Odyssey/
Roguelike with slay the spire level progression. Start with a few dice for each encounter, roll them, and slot them into "quests" to see if you succeed and how well. Unclear why I kept failing some quests - e.g. I would slot in a die higher than the # it said it wanted for combat and would occasionally just fail it and take full damage and get no XP. Text is also really fucking small for some reason. Don't think I'll be playing the full game after beating 2 acts to end the demo.
