Why do their fans just accept mediocrity?
Why does wanting gamefreak to do better offend them so?

ww doesn't look as bad as the other pokemon games
it's at least a huge upgrade over sv
might be the first pokemon game i ever buy
>>734058017
i have to agree with this
there isn't a single monster collector franchise that captures this particular flavor of adventure
and monster designs also help tremendously
there's just something appealing about setting out on a journey to collect monsters, train them, battle strong trainers and leaders, defeat evil team, etc
no idea why no one else has bothered to copy this formula
there's roco kingdom and dokev which feel somewhat similar, guess we'll see how they compare to pokemon when we get more info on them

Billion of fans x 0.1% simps = a shitton of simp
Most pokémon fans haven't bought a Gamefreak game in an eternity, sadly "not most" is more than enough to ensure GF's success no matter what they shat this generation.
>>
>>
>>
>>734058378
thankfully, roco kingdom is somewhat similar to pokemon in artstyle
plus it's a f2p game with no gacha
i can see it taking off like genshin
dokev looks interesting too
it's got its own unique style of monsters, plus there was huge hype for it when they marketed it
i can't wait to see more now that crimson desert is out of the way

Gamefreak made super crack back in the 90s. As long as a Pokemon game boots, and you can capture about 100 new critters and gather badges/trinkets, people will buy it. it really is that simple. I don't know why /v/ feels it needs to be pathologized any deeper than that.
>>
>>734057964
The games are perpetually geared to kids, and that wont ever change. I would love to have a T rated pokemon game just once, better story, more complex world, gym leaders who dont suck, countless legnedaries, and gimmicks just ruined it as the years went on. GIANT MAX THEM!!!!! Stupid. They should go back and fix holes like cubone and kangaskhan thing, every pokemon should have a baby version/1st stage version. What it would take is someone to make their own version of pokemon, but they would have to tiptoe over all the mechanics and other stuff so they don't get sued. The concept that some pokemon have different elemental types like sandshrew is cool though.

legends arceus was them trying to make a game that appealed to older fans (it worked imo) but then they never did anything like it again since. za might as well be a different series, it sucks compared to arceus

>Why does wanting gamefreak to do better offend them so?
Because Pokemon fans are a subgroup of Nintendo fans as a whole. They've been raised on decades of "Nintendo does it best" propaganda that they turn a blind eye to anything bad Nintendo has done. Just mention any kind of commercial or financial flop Nintendo has put out (Like the Virtual Boy, Starfox Adventures, or Metroid: Other M) and the Nintendo shills will shit their pants in rage as if you just punched them in the face.
Also the new pokemon look like shit and I have no intention of buying a gay ass switch2.
>>
>>734059106
>at least gen 10 looks promising
Problem is, gen 10 is what gens 8 and 9 should have looked like.
This first trailer isn't even a good indicator of the general quality of the game either, just that it looks somewhat passable graphically and performance wise.

I'm still mad that we don't have a Tauros/Miltank common prevo, and that we have tons of male only Pokémon which should basically never be able to breed in the wild. I'm not asking for much here, just basic world building shit to explain how mons like Rufflets even survive in the wild (which I actually just discovered is male only, why it's just a randomass bird??)

I like Pokemon, and if you don't, get over it. And instead of trying to convince me to give a shit about your complaints, consider suicide.

idk why people on /V/ expect "competitors" that try the exact same thing as the original ip they´re based off to do anything except perform worse than the original and then think the original ip is doing some ultra special thing that makes it better.
pokemon is owned by a massive company that has most of its sales from merch and general synergy from the brand that´s all preplanned before anything starts. how do you expect a "competitor" to do any of that espeically when theres no fucking point since every pokemon fan will never think "oh, these games suck, i should look into something that plays like pokemon" theyll just think "oh ill just find another fucking pokemon game"
>>
>>
>>734060976
Pokemon has been very carefully managed so as to remain the absolute top dog in its field
kids grew up on Pokemon, Pokemania was a thing, grown adults and children alike are very attached to their designs, they grew up on the games, the anime, the toys, the cards, all of it, the Pokemon Company ensures it has a slice in each part
the games aren't even what make TPC their biggest profit, its the merch sales, the anime and games are ways to push more merch and make new plushes/toys, all the game has to do is be serviceable since everyone will buy it no matter what, some will even double dip and get both versions because they cultivated fans to behave like this
even if a competitor arises that quite literally made better games than Pokemon, it won't beat Pokemon, it can't, even Palworld's success is never going to reach a fraction of Pokemons because how can it?
>>
>>
>>734060092
Ditto is basically your answer, but yeah Miltanks and Tauros should produce baby miltanks or Tauros, and simply having their natures determine the baby would be simple enough, i.e breeding a Tauros with Brave and a Miltank with Jolly would give you a Miltank, something like that.

The world building has many broken pieces, the fact that legnedaries can be caught at all, not to mention by a 12 year old who can take on adult pokemon trainers is already dumb enough. I know its geared to kids so they can self insert, but its still stupid.

people who don't play the series will seethe about this post, but its correct. Pokemon hasn't changed since its first game, and its the perfect example of a game that is refined to near perfection. You know the broader strokes but the details change so its an adventure that never ends while still feeling familiar enough to be cozy. Compare it to games that constantly try to reinvent themselves like final fantasy and Zelda, those fanbases hate each other, the new games, the old games, themselves, and everything else under the sun. Pokemon? It's akin to dragon quest, it perfected itself and is happy to be what it is.
Consider also that 99% of the complaints about the games are that they have shit graphics and performance, so when something like winds and waves comes out people are shouting how good it is now despite the only difference being how it looks. Grahpicsfags hate Pokemon, people who actually play video games love it.
>>

experiencing the peak of an IP during your formative years creates diehard fans for life, regardless of the quality going forward. it's probably the reason I still cling onto all my gen 1 Bionicle sets despite the IP being long dead and having a shit revival.

Nah, the gym leaders were easy in that game also. Gym leaders should have a full 6 count, and healing items should be banned on both sides, they should also not cheese gym leaders pokemon to make them have abilities and what not they wouldn't normally have be it their level or what have you. For someone to make a new pokemon like game they would have to lean away from the elemental aspects and figure out a new paper/rock/scissors mechanic.

pokemon's only remarkable asset is a casual-friendly utopic playground that revolves around the protagonist to facilitate his coming of age rite of passage and enable the player to live a power fantasy. the world bends over backwards to enable it, which may be ok gameplay-wise (everyone would hate having to sit in the sidelines and giving up legendaries to the authorities), but ends up making no sense plot-wise (12-year-olds put the entire police force to shame, man-eating creatures subsist on berries instead of eating people or each other, everyone sets up cockfights instead of just shooting people dead)
multiplayer is just a coin flipping simulator that is often decided at character select and gameplay consists of guessing what the opponent might do

TPC gets constantly btfo by their fans, they could literally never do a system as good as this, and this is made by one single third worlder with a decomp of HG. The new games can't hold a candle to the base HGSS let alone this.

>>734064403
Deny it all you want but there’s a reason those franchises two have so much overlap, fire emblem is simple a natural successor to the Pokemon formula. Hell you can even go on YouTube and pick a random “poke tuber” of your choice and I can guarantee you if there’s any other game featured on their channel it’s fire emblem
>>
>>734064328
>I never understood why this was controversial, do people really want a single game with 1000+ monsters to collect?
Yes, what a stupid question. Most people never even caught them all back when there were only 150(+1) and that didn't stop more from being made. This is the same logic that gets you barebones games with nothing to do in the world after the Pokémon League.
>>
>>734064328
nta but yes, people playing collectathon games do in fact want more things to collect.
especially when pokemon home is a thing so you can get everything in a single game instead of needing to buy other shit to finish your dex.

Similar to when you point out flaws in translation for any games. First is selection bias. Poor quality turns a lot of people off so the people that remain either like poor quality or are able to find diamonds in the rough, enjoyment despite the poor quality. For the latter group the concept that a game is/could be better is purely a boon. For the former, it's an attack on their identity. They actually like whatever stupid bullshit the game had, somehow coped that it makes the game unique or some shit, and so the idea that a game could be better means that they experienced the "wrong" version of the game. No one likes the idea that what they enjoyed personally was inferior, or shouldn't exists.
>>
>>734064515
Collecting has nothing to do with it, Shiningfags had jrpgs and srpgs. Final Fantasyfags have jrpgs and srpgs, there's even a P5 srpg.
RPGfags like RPG games, the only connection between Pokemon and Fire Emblem are that they're Nintendo exclusives, but even then the average Fire Emblem enjoyer would be more aligned with the Advanced Wars series than Pokemon.
>>
>>
>>734064810
And the fact the game is geared to 12byear olds, they know they have a strong adult audience so they constantly draw their female 12 year olds to look 16/18. If it wasnt for thr fact most adults were killed in some massive war, id question why adults allow this behavior at all
>>
>>
>>734065021

There’s three groups of people that play Pokemon;
Children
Children that grow up and want a nostalgic experience but can’t admit that they’re older
Children that grow up and want a better version of what they liked as a kid
First two groups will just always buy Pokemon, third group moves onto fire emblem because they want a tactical experience that isn’t based around cute monsters
I’m not saying that they’re the same game, I’m saying that if you’re a grown ass man that wants a “better Pokemon experience” then you naturally move on to fire emblem.
If you want a mindless collectathon or pretend like you want a “mature Pokemon game” when it’s clearly a children’s series and you can’t admit that what you really want is to be 9 years old staying up til 10:30pm with a gba a copy of emerald and a wormlight then you simply just fall into the former 2 categories

>no idea why no one else has bothered to copy this formula
Many have, but it's also why you likely never heard of them. Fuck the first Beyblade game uses Pokemon as inspiration and it's been openly admitted that Tyson and Kai were modeled after Red and Green (Blue) and having Beyblades themselves basically being Pokemon with tops having elementals, multiple monsters to pick from and raise, and being allowed to carry up to 6 beyblades at a time.
Here's the thing you have to understand, Pokemon did this shit first and capitalized on it hard and fast. There was no other video game, none whatsoever, that did what Pokemon allowed you to do in the mid to late 90s at the time of its release. Go on an RPG journey, collect monsters, train them, watch them grow, trade and battle them with your friends at the drop of a hat (provided you had a link cable)? The closest thing to that was Tomagatchi and Digimon and those devices were cheap tiger electronics tier shit compared to a whole ass adventure on your gameboy.
Another issue is most of the pokemon inspired imitations are either indie or made by smaller studios who don't have the name, resources, influence, or reach that Pokemon does and they never will.

SMT is closer to "Pokemon for adults", even Persona is. You're talking just in the scope of people that are tied to the hip to Nintendo ecosystem but even then, SMT is also tied to Nintendo hardware and Persona games are on the Switch now.
Even then, nu Fire Emblem is nothing like how the series used to be when it was known as the "hardcore" Nintendo franchise back in the SNES/GC/GBA days. Fire Emblem is simply the game that people buy because the characters are in Smash. It's tendiecore, in that it's the Nintendo fanboy choice.

more pokemon = better
I thought it fucking sucked when ruby sapphire cut 100 pokemon. A Pokemon series that strives to become bigger and better over time would have been much better than the tiny budget shovelware releases attitude that is more typical of their output. We're literally talking about the most revenue-generating IP that has ever existed, it's crazy that they're making so few games and all the games they do make are cheap, low quality trash

it's unironically a nostalgia snowball that keeps feeding into their fans' children. gamefreak unironically fucking won the market race. do you question coca-cola drinkers for drinking garbage? fast food havers? shit music fans?
the only "valid" action against mainstream culture being "hiding in a fucking corner of the internet and crying like a fucking baby" should tell you that these movements are pretty fucking huge and moved by more than just "lol fan". people unironically base their lifestyles around gaslighting people towards or against pokemon simply because "big popular", ignoring all the aspects of the series, which is exactly what you're doing right now. this is how base humans are.

Pokemon games are about the trainers and monster designs, wich is how they spend 90% of their development budget.
Retarded "gamers" just beat the games and call it a day, actual pokemon fans spent 500~1000 hours per generation actually playing the games, that why you will never understand them.

Well it changed in gen 3 and 4 and people hated it to the point where they literally remade gen 1.
And people hated that because it was a dollar store version of gen 1.
So they came to their senses and realized what people wanted was to have a shit ton of pokemon available and have more trading and battling, so they made gen 6.
Then for some reason they decided to throw that away in gen 7 with a bad battle gimmick and worse pokemon.
Then they decided they wanted to kill the pokedex in gen 8 and people hated it and also had a bad gimmick.
Then they came to their senses again in gen 9 and made sure that there was a ton of pokemon available, better trading, better battling, better gimmick, better dlc, better multiplayer, and better ways to build up competitive teams.
The experience trumps everything.

this is not the same concept
it's just kids having a toy each that they speak to

same reason why bakugan never took off
pokemon works because it's a world full of monsters that mostly resemble real life animals, and giving the player unlimited capability to capture any mons they want
developers need to stop being retarded and just copy pokemon's concept but change the way they capture those, that's literally it
roco kingdom literally copies pokemon, the only difference being it's some kind of a magical fantasy world with a hogwarts style school instead of pokemon's more casual and modern setting

It makes them feel good and that's all that matters to these people. Acknowledging how the series quality's decline means they might damage how good that feeling makes them feel so most Pokemon fans will never acknowledge it.
Combine that with how most Pokemon fans don't even play the mainline games anymore. Some dip in every once in a while or stick to spin offs and mobile games. Most will only buy the plushies, the cards, and other merch so it means they will never even have to engage with how shit it has become in the first place.

The entire reason /v/ despises Pokemon is due to believing the series fell off after Gen 5. If you criticize Gen 5 it's suddenly the Gamefreak hater like you that starts slurping Masuda's balls hard.

Every single actual Pokemon fan I've spoken to is completely reasonable, recognises the flaws with the modern games, and the entire fanbase universally agrees they want to see them do better.
90% of people complaining about "Pokemon fans" will call you a "bootlicker" three seconds into the conversation if you express a remotely positive opinion on a game that there is a very real chance they haven't even actually played.
There is one side of this that is sane and one that isn't.

I mean you're not wrong in that Pokemon has plenty of subculture fanbases, but pretty much any associated with the main game are pretty up front with how they feel about the quality of things like SV, generally. /vp/ is rightfully critical of the modern games. Poketubers are rightfully critical of the modern games. Social media is too. The general fanbase that discusses the games is pretty open to discussion of their flaws.

What always gets me is the brand loyalty. You could take gen 10, release the game 1:1 before Nintendo does with another name and with all references to Pokemon removed and it would hardly get attention unless you pulled a Palworld and made it a parody. Meanwhile if you take any mediocre shit and slap an official Pokemon/Nintendo seal on it immediately thousands of retards are lining up to buy 16 copies of it.
>>
>>734074565
>Like I don’t think the average sonic fan to be Chris chan yet the mind still visualizes that
The average Sonic fan is either a child which is the target audience, OR it's someone from a broken home who replaced the empty void in their development with Sonic.
Pokemon is much the same, but children and degenerates.

NTA, but certain communities like reddit are more willing to have toxic positivity towards the franchise. There's a toxic positivity mindset brewing in the Nintendo communities in general recently, presumably as a pushback to all the perceived "grifters" making content negatives towards Nintendo.
Really, it depends where you're browsing. I remember some anon linked a Resetera thread for Pokopia the other day after the treehouse presentation and everyone jumped on a guy saying that it didn't look good and that it wasn't for him.

>>734074615
Consumerism and branding is a thing across all industries, like why do you think you get people willing to shell out 400 dollars for a branded shirt when any shirt can do the job of a shirt just as well? You can say status but it is also just brand loyalty and brands act as a convenient mental default that is easier to go for than gambling on something new, of which also has the issue other people will be absent from it because they didn’t also make said switch. Single player games have this issue less for obvious reasons but Pokémon has the whole trading activity aspect that makes a switch a harder sell. It is also why FPS games all consolidated mechanically, players would refuse to play games where their skills in one game wouldn’t transfer to another.

I can't speak on Reddit specifically, as I don't use it, but I do use social media outside 4chan and I do follow multiple fan-run Pokemon podcasts and youtubers. And by that I mean the ones that actually like the games and make generally positive content (shiny hunters, comp players) and so aren't "hategrifters", and they're all pretty reasonable in their takes on the modern games (SVs performance and visuals being ass, LZAs map being too samey etc.)
I'm sure some pockets are uncritical, but surely that's unavoidable in any large fanbase.
>>

To be fair, this is more representative of Legos marketing than Pokemons marketing. Lego has hard pivoted to being an adult collectors brand in recent years.

Yeah, and it appears to be getting worse with time. The more pushback Nintendo gets, the more fervent they defend everything. I've seen people defending the new XCX patch. Metroid is the only series where the fans are more critical like you said but it's also the genre with the most alternatives, Metroidvania games are a dime a dozen.
>>734075026
I mean just recently you had tons of people running defense for the $20 for FR and LG. Granted, you also had tons and tons of people getting upset about it. I think the defenders stick out just because they start defending things that are very egregious about the franchise(like SV's performance) and they're often arguing against more level headed fans that are calling out the franchise because they want it to be better.
The only exception I can think of is the Mega Dimensions DLC, I'm not sure I've seen a single positive sentiment about it other than the usual crowd liking Ansha a bit too much.

>I mean just recently you had tons of people running defense for the $20 for FR and LG.
You have to understand that these things are reactions. The moment that price was revealed, there were a thousand posts of "dude you know you can just emulate that shit on your phone". Which on paper sounds reasonable, but it's also something literally everyone knows and is missing the point in the first place, and is repeated constantly by people who want a cheap dunk.
I personally bought FireRed because I specifically wanted to play it on my Switch 2 and I like Home transfer from classic games as it leads me to being able to keep things even when replaying them which makes replaying them more interesting (for example, I played a lot of Crystal on 3DS and ended that playthrough by shiny hunting GS Ball Celebi). I fully intend to shiny hunt Deoxys at the end of this playthrough.
Do I think $20 is overpriced? Yes, absolutely. Do I think that the fifty thousand people repeating that you can emulate it are missing the point of the release for most of the intended audience and are generally a nuisance to discussion attempting to get cheap dunks by saying something everyone already knows? Also yes.

I haven't purchased a Pokemon since X & Y on the 3DS but the trailer for Winds/Waves looks like it has finally reached the gamecube generation in terms of graphics so I'm slightly curious if it will be worth buying used at a deep discount in 2032.
The best Pokemon game of all time is on Steam but sadly it is in (((Early Access))) so I haven't bought it yet. The demo was incredible though so I can't wait for the 1.0 release: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2288470/Aethermancer/

both of these are me but idgaf if people like PMD or not, simply liking any game post gen-7 or being a genwunner is enough for me to label someone as having abysmal taste

>It doesn't have as good of a gameplay loop or a formula
>It doesn't have good mechanics
Underrated criticisms. A lot of the alternatives tend to be pointlessly annoying in their own ways, maybe because they're forced to since Pokemon already grabbed up everything.
>>
>>734075625
The reactions are often overreactions so more valid criticisms get brushed off by people that get overly invested in defending things. In the case of FR/LG was that Wii U GBA games were only $8 so there's a very high premium attached to the Pokemon brand.
I view it the same was as I view World of Warcraft players, where they're now paying a $40 premium for 5 days of early access. Expansions are now $90 for them and they will all pay it and the companies know they'll pay it even though it's so overpriced. I think the commonality between WoW and Pokemon being overpriced is that both are games with a heavy sense of community where if your friends are buying the new one, you don't want to be left behind. You want to talk about it with them, you want to play with them, and that plays into FOMO. Both are also games that people have as their "main" game, there are people that mostly play Pokemon if not only play Pokemon between romhacks, nuzlockes, shiny farming, etc. Pokemon is a lifestyle game, just like WoW. So it gets a heavy premium tacked on that many are very willing to pay because that's "their game". They will be playing FR/LG and doing nuzlockes for months. That's well worth the price of admission.

The water looks alright but the rest looks just as shit as gen 9, we just haven't seen the empty plains yet but just pause at moments that aren't just water like that forest area and you'll see that absolutely nothing improved
The whole trailer was "look at the cool water and those Pokemon close ups, don't look at the backgrounds, look at them" because it's apparently where all the graphical improvements went
You may think that it's disingenuous because I'm asking you to pause a trailer, but if you're playing the game you won't have fancy camera angles, Pokemon models right in front of your face, and the camera changing places every 2 seconds
Gen 10 will be another successful cheap cash grab as they all are since a decade

>I haven't played any monster taming game series that isn't Pokemon despite sperging out about the genre
Nice of you to admit it
Literally half the genre is about collecting monsters, fighting others, defeating some form of evil team or a bad guy or at least about becoming the strongest or shit like that
Just look at stuff like DMQ/DQMJ, Spectrobes, Digimon Story, Coromon or Nexomon (and all the other more recent indie games of the genre that stay very close to Pokemon)
All of those have some form of evil team/guy to beat, are about getting stronger to beat others (maybe not that much for Spectrobes, for the first game at least) and collecting monsters
The Pokemon formula is the rule, not the exception
Monster taming games are either vpets, Pokemon inspired or SMT inspired (they can also be multiple or all of those but they always get in at least one of those categories)

Monster collection genre has limits on the narratives it can tell because the main device is the ability to collect and train fighting monsters, which limits the way monsters in the world can work since they would be expected to be able to be collectible. The humans aren’t because they are basically a specialized caste in those worlds with their distinct collecting and managing role from the direct fighting the fighting monsters do. This structure is very hard to deviate from without undermining the core appeal of the genre.

Palworld is fine and has good designs of its own, but it's a completely different appeal. The only reason it's in the same conversation as Nintendo is because
>just like Gundam Evo for Overwatch, angry Pokemon fans and anti's flocked to it as the "Pokemon killer"
>Nintendo stupidly started a lawsuit over sour grapes that Palworld started adding features that they wanted to make entire games about
In a better world, Palworld and Pokemon would collab as two completely different types of monster-catching games, but they're pitted against each other for reasons that don't really hold up under scrutiny.

i don't think gamefreak's pokemon titles have ever evolved past being a handheld game, even on the switch the games are clearly just barely above being a 3ds title. i almost feel bad having to compare them to an actual console game like xenoblade but pokemon is charging console game prices for their handheld quality releases so fuck 'em.
so when i see gen 10, i see it basically being what the series would have looked like on the 4ds.

Pokémon is such a phenomenon it has hit lifestyle status. People who base their entire personality on it now have to play the newest games and hype them up or they will be excluded from the online places that accept them

>or they will be excluded from the online places that accept them
Such as where, exactly? People seethe over Pokemon like it killed their parents all over the internet now, even in Pokemon-dedicated spaces. It's the in thing right now.

>>734084417
Yep, Pokémon is the Disney of video games, even more than Nintendo I'd say
And its fanbase is the exact same, obsessed 1 personality trait people who will gladly put themselves in the red for trinkets and lose their shit at anything that has their favorite mouse's face on it

Beats me, I don't visit those places cause I am a Gen wunner. I like Pokémon but it doesn't define my life like it did when I was a 9 yo when it first came out.
I guess what I meant is that there is an entire influencer class out there that ate dedicated to hyping it constantly which is how they make their money. If you consume it and have your identity online, you have a vested financial interest in hyping it. The general stance I see is people proudly buying it and showing off their purchase on social media. But that could be because I'm solely seeing it through 4chans eyes.

as is the tradition with overpriced goods. i would put money on most of those people being iPhone owners.

Dude, the only screenshot you're sharing since earlier is a character staring at water
The trailer has a lot of other shots you know (like the ones I keep sending), why don't you send those ones instead?
I'm giving you examples and you're like

MGS4 literally runs at 15-25 FPS most of the time on PS3 hardware. I'm not the biggest Pokemon fan ever (haven't bought one of their games since 2018), but there's literally nothing wrong with the new trailer. At some point you're comparing a cartoonish monster catcher to games with different demands and art styles
>tlou
enclosed levels, also PS3 TLoU looks a lot blurrier than you remember, trust me
>wipeout hd
racing games all look great in motion, but their freeze frames show off how much detail they smudge and compress. wipeout is no exception.
none of these games look bad, but the comparison is disingenuous

to be fair, that's about on par for a pokemon release so we have no idea what the performance of gen 10 will be like. i agree it's a bit disingenuous but we're talking about a pre release trailer where the graphics could easily be toned down for the final release which happens all the time. every game i listed looks worse than crysis as well and that's from 2007.
i just think it's dumb people are trying to hype up gen10's graphics when the switch 2 has ff7r and cyberpunk looking fantastic which is why i jumped in, i know pokemon is graded on a curve but still.

I like Xenoblade DE but this is a bad comparison
>lower resolution
>SUPER aggressive dynamic res
>grass renders only like 5 feet in front of you
Xenoblade makes visible compromises to run on the Switch 1, and as someone who played it all the way through and then recently fired it up on Switch 2, the picture is stretched and muddy on a 1080p screen.
>but what about OG Xenoblade
it's a fantastic game, but it's lower res, textures are much smaller, shaders are much complex, enemy scripts very simple, and the LOD radius is super aggressive. Go back and play XC1 on Wii (not an emulator) and it's obvious
>>
>>
>>
>>734087549
>so we have no idea what the performance of gen 10 will be like
GF trailers for every 3D pokemon game has been what-you-see-is-what-you-get. I'm holding out for a real gameplay reveal, but I'm not worried about the performance. It was 30 FPS on the trailer, and as long as it can hold that target at that level of detail, it's gonna be fine on that front.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>734087375
Yep, the resolution, that's the only thing that could make right "better"
>B-but the lighting
That lighting makes no sense; what's the source of light causing that light reflection in the water between the camera and of a damn tree?
Those wall textures on the left don't look that sexy now that they tanked 15 years, but I'd say that they still look way better than the wet piece of steak the character is standing on in that screenshot you can't stop sending
>>
>>
>>
>>734087973
you didn't read the rest of my post lmfao
the original xenoblade chronicles on Wii runs at 480p locked to 30 FPS (incidentally, the image is 504 pixels vertically). your screenshot is comparing a waterfall in the distance to a lake. you might as well compare that waterfall to an empty spot in Liurnia in Elden Ring.
>>
>>
>>734088464
>the water
Default Wii water vs default Switch water
The water is the only thing that you could argue looks nice (and you know it since you keep sending screenshots of that same moment where the screen is 90% water)
>The lighting
No, absolutely not
Having random HD light reflections that don't make any sense isn't better than default Wii lighting
>Quality of the models
That's debatable, Pokemon models aren't really pushing any limits, and they're the same since the 3ds
They have more polygons because they can, but that's it, there's nothing groundbreaking with those (as it should, since there's really nothing more to do with those designs)
>>
>>
>>
>>734088734
...it's not random anon. it's clearly a lightsource cast from the sun far off screen cascading through a couple tree branches. we can talk about shaders, occluding, particle lighting, etc., but you're literally talking out of your ass here, and it's obvious when you actually see the trailer in motion.
>>
>>
>>

>>734087375
actually out of your mind if you think the left is playing in the same league as the right image

I don't. That's why I stopped buying or playing them. The last one I got was Pokemon Shield after taking a hiatus from spending money on video games and game systems (poorfag and I got into PC gaming). The last games I bought before Shield were Platinum and HeartGold.
For context, I was the That Kid™ who still played and liked Pokemon after Pokemania died. Two kids at my high school even gave me their bags of classic Pokemon cards for free.

>there is not a single vidya ip more appealing than pokemon
Well I wouldn't go that far, I admit Pokemon might have had a large effect on my tastes in videogames. These days I mostly play Kenshi and Rimworld but they kind of have that same appeal of building up characters and trying to be the best.
>>
>>
>>
>>734090209
anon, most pokemon fans don't play the game. we know this from the sales data. most pokemon fans collect the cards, buy branded stuff, play an app like GO or PocketTCG, or watch the anime
>but they aren't pokemon fans!
not in the opinion of the pokemon company
>>
>>734087375
Ive seen a guy go on detail about the water in Xenoblade X and SV and he did clear up that SV is technically more advanced in every way, the problem is that it just doesn't look good, whereas while X's water is not technically advanced it uses a lot of interesting texture work to make it appealing, which was the difference
As far as these two pictures go, right is a lot more appealing looking. The water in Xenoblade 1 looks too "muddy" to an unnatural degree for a place with a lot of waterfalls

the issue with switch-era pokemon is that it attempts to add features while
>being choked on time and on budget
>running on a 2015 chip that was meant to rival 2013 laptops
>sharing time and devs with like 3 other simultaneous projects
which is why you see all the repeated textures, broken effects, terrible draw distances, terrible framerate, etc.. the resources aren't sufficient to realize the scope, and the result is that the game is completely underbaked.
>>
>>734063935
SV ran without faults on the Switch 2 despite the unpatched Memory leak issue, I have high hopes for WW, apparently it's using an upgraded engine of the SV one, with the intent of patching up performance issues significantly brought about by SVs old engine
>>
There's two sides to the fanbase right now, ones who eat the slop unquestionably, and ones who trash everything indiscriminately. The FRLG VC release is a fine example of the latter, people were clowning it because "it won't have the events". As it turns out, it DOES have the events. The only valid complaint is no word on compatibility with Gale of Darkness yet, but if it was compatible, people would still find a reason to complain.

>Why do their fans just accept mediocrity?
Lets take a look at your average pokeman playerbase first
>I'm a mid 40s dad/mom with 20 kids and 1 hour of free time daily i just want to toss balls!
>furries that increases every gen because more bipedals, why take big risk for mon designs when releasing the next delphox/meowscarada is guaranteed success?
>people who really likes collecting monsters over anything else to the point if game throws any slightlest challenge they insta crumble, not many games that does that too if you ignore indie fakemon games
For them gamefreak can release a new pokemon game that runs 15fps on everywhere outside of battle and still gets hordes of white knights
Took fanhack pill from years ago and never looked back
>>
>>734091145
>being choked on time and on budget
SV had a lot of dev time, Ohmori had the 3D map done before the SwSh DLC was even out.
>running on a 2015 chip
This didn't stop a lot of other games from running on it.
>sharing time and devs with like 3 other simultaneous projects
They have different teams handling those.
The problem is GF is incompetent at programming they unironically have been using the same code so you find remains of data from FireRed LeafGreen inside SV, it's that bad. It's genuinely surprising they made it this far with just glued tape and a dream.

99% of the people who play the games just play it casually. Don't even complete the single player story. They get the game, run around for 10-20 hours catching the most basic Pokemon or until they find [insert mascot character of the game] then quit.
The other 1% are massively obsessed fanboys of the franchise. And in their eyes, the series can do no wrong. These are the ones who play the game to completion. As well as buy tons of merchandise and rebuy the games online for hundreds of dollars above launch price. The developers only need to appeal to these people. The hype and cute characters get the other 99% to jump on at launch.
Basically, the developers don't need to put in any effort. If the games started selling poorly, they would. In short, you falling for the marketing hype is the problem.

>lot of dev time
no, there was a lot of time between mainline releases, but it was clear from what we got that there wasn't a lot of straight dev time. not only that, but i'm pretty sure there are financial reports about how the the pokemon company cut team sizes and budgets at gamefreak because they didn't want to pay enough people to actually realize the game.
