That's about it

Fill the deck with monsters that have 2000 defense and 1800+ attack that you can summon without any tributes. Pepper in some power summons like summoned skull. Throw in some dark holes and trap holes. Throw in some cards to negate spells and traps. It's pretty much game over for your opponent if you follow these tips.

It's not. It's not an Ash Blossom, it's a layered interruption and board breaker that's harder to interact with by sitting in your hand.
And the main reason board breakers are so bad is that they do nothing going first so you have to either give up the going first advantage or risk bricking on them going first and getting shut down by hand traps with nothing to protect you. This obviously doesn't have that issue.

There's a million choke points beofre they can reliably go into Dark Law, and most staples can deal with it. If you can't stop them going into Dark Law or out it once it's on the field, you probably bricked anyways.

Funny how you mention that, I watched a couple of YGO retrospective videos about how the game evolved and they all reached the early conclusion that both those cards would get quickly replaced by Summoned Skull because it was easier to summon and strong enough to keep the opponent at bay, with only BEWD seeing play because it was a 3k ATK beater that could only be beaten with spell cards.

The problem with this is at some point the Branded cards are going to be ditched. The Fusion lock is too limiting for Dracotail which is pure a pure slop enabler.
Yeah the current best OCG build uses new Branded support but the only card in Dracotail that locks is Rahu which is cuttable once something better comes along.
Hypothetically you can also run Shaddolls over Branded cards which do shit when fused. Faimena can summon Winda turn 0 which is a stronger presence than Arthalion.

The deck has significant resource generation and is pretty consistent. It heavily relies on the field spell though, and if you deny them that access it does feel weak. But that's also vanilla Artmage without any Elevenotes, Doom Z or the new support on way.
To beat the full Artmage board I needed a hand like >>734111614 to win so if you told me 1 year from now Artmage goes 100-0 in no banlist cup I would believe it. It feels like Snake-Eyes pre-Poplar.

When Maxx was banned in the TCG, TCG players adapted to Ash by reaching for big combo decks that could extend through Ash but were also unaffected by Droll. Think Adamancipator. Prank DPE was more popular in the TCG than OCG because it was less vulnerable to Droll, which was far more common side in the TCG.
Snake-Eyes was the first format, roach or not, that brought the TCG and OCG more in line with a similar style of deck and TCG players have been seething since.

Admancipator cards don't add from Deck to hand. They excavate then special summon from the Deck.
The 2 points to Droll would be the search for Block Dragon off Galant Granite or Block Dragon refilling their hand. And even if you had Droll they frequently would normal summon Ko'Aki Meiru Guardian as protection from handtraps.
The only reason Adamancipator didn't win a YCS is due to covid. And it got slaughtered on the banlist anyway as if it did. The deck was unstoppable going first and you needed specific breakers in hand to win going second.

It was ultimately unnecessary. They originally tied the effects to the subtype but later realized you don't have to do that. Thus subtypes were relegated to little more than parameters and were later supplanted by archetypes.
Consider BLS-EotB is effectively a self-summoning Ritual Monster. It was one of the first cards to have "Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set" but at the time Konami didn't realize you could have a Ritual self summon itself because every other Ritual did so via card effect. Same shit with Fusions up until the anime came up with Contact Fusion in GX.

Notice that Solemn only got limited again once the TCG migrated to an OCG-style meta that was very handtrap heavy.
When the TCG was just endless extension, Solemns and Ash were not very good. But now that every deck is running 20+ handtraps killing the starter is a turnskip again.
