I''m halfway through Raccoon City on Insanity. The game seems a lot more enjoyable on this difficulty, which doesn't really surprise me because I think the recent RE games have generally had good hard modes. I was kind of hoping Leon's gameplay would grow on me more, and it has a bit, but it's definitely worse than RE4 Remake's. Also, this game has a lot of 'Collect 3 of X' or 'Interact with 3 X' even by RE standards.

Slopcom really fucked up if that was the death of Hunk. They basically just threw away tons of potential. The character at least had a long history, even if it wasn't tons of gameplay and stuff. He had a legend around him that fans might have actually enjoyed getting to see first-hand, especially after all this time. If that was him, what the fuck has he been doing all this time? In that time a LOT has happened and it'd be cool to see what he was up to. But what's the point now?

I really don't like how melee combat feels in RE9 compared to RE4 Remake. Leon's gameplay feels like a step down from that game in a lot of ways, but for melee specifically parries don't feel as satisfying to do and I don't like how they open up enemies for an execution but not a basic melee attack. In RE4 Remake it felt like you had to work harder to even open up an enemy for an execution, and you might have not even gone for it anyway if it was available because of your knife's durability. It felt a lot better for the pace of battles for that crowd control melee to be your reward for a parry, in 9 the routine of parry>execute on any strong enemy gets old quick.

USS was mostly used in a literal sense as a security force for lab facilities and for carrying out corporate espionage or used as hitmen, for example like with assassinating James Marcus or Hunk's team being sent to confiscate the G virus. They were never really intended to be a serious offensive force for destroying BOWs like the BSAA. Also Code Veronica pretty much destroyed them as a faction. You can find traces of their presence in almost every game pre-RE4 but they were deployed in such small numbers they couldn't have possibly done anything to mitigate the large scale outbreak. I think this makes a bigger deal out of Hunk being an efficient soldier, it wasn't necessarily expected of him.

ORC could have worked, I think. They might have actually been onto something with their team of special assholes killing people during the outbreak. The big problem was that they had them killing main characters. If they didn't do that and instead made just some HVT's Umbrella saw an opportunity to get rid of, that really could have worked if they paced it right by having them deal with the outbreak and some monsters along the way. If ORC didn't put so much on trying to be a competitive MP game, that shit really could have been pulled off. I'd almost like to see them try it again, keep the co-op but make it a real fleshed out experience that details canon events so we aren't just wasting our time playing a Resident Evil flavored game where you kick zombies asses.
