we're long overdue for one anyway
maybe the faggots crying about the lack of an arsenal in 9 will realize that not every re game has a plethora of weapons (kind of defeats the purpose of survival horror), and this is a good opportunity to show it

In most cases I'd agree, but I like Resident Evil (2002) more than I like Resident Evil (1998) by a very wide margin. I rented RE'98 and beat it that same night, thought it was okay, I've played through RE'02 more times than I can count and keep coming back to it every couple of years.
Some remakes are just so much better than the original it utterly replaces them. RE'02 is such a remake.

Yeah spiders are in like 2 rooms of RE1, which is basically the same as the small spiders in RE9 just two encounters never seen again.

REmake was made in a time when gaming was still good, at least it was in the same era as the original, the design philosophy was the same and had pretty much the same target audience
the industry has changed now, any remake of an old game won't be faithful to its original in any way because the devs, philosophy behind making games and the target audiences are all vastly different

I think the biggest difference between REmake and the slop remakes we keep getting is that REmake was made by the original team, they had grown after releasing RE2 and felt like they could do the first game's premise justice now that they had better tech and more experience making games. Most remakes nowadays are outsourced to some other studio that had nothing to do with the game's production so have no idea why choices were made so they have no idea what they're doing when they're changing things.

Nope, the only debatable one is PS1 -> GBA as it didn't add anything new content wise but it was an entirely new engine, other than that they're all full remakes, with entirely redone sprites, music, extra dungeons, new scripts, ect.

yeah that's exactly what i said in >>734116465
a remake is a top to bottom overhaul

>Zoomers aren't going to play a game with tank controls
The only version of REmake that has "tank controls" is the actual GameCube version. Every version of the game that isn't the GameCube version (the ones that everyone starts with) has full 3D analog control support, and thats the default control scheme when you boot up the game. Do you guys even play video games or do you think "zoomers" who want to play REmake are going to emulate the GameCube version instead of buying it on steam?

you can blame the consumer for that, not the developers. video games cost way too much now and only flagship brands sell. and remaking an old game will guarantee money that will fund the next mainline entry. the only way for games to get good again, is for games to be pushed back to ps3 levels of production at the maximum.

>I don't know why they started with 2 in the first place.
RE2make spent like over a decade in development and was initially started right after the first one but they kept putting it on the backburner in favor of new entries. That's also why it's the best of the nu-REs and is packed with soul compared to the rest.

The remake of 1 doesn't have tank controls. It's omnidirectional.
I'm convinced that fact actively harms it more than it helps it. Omnidirectional movement with perspective cameras makes players overcorrect movement, actively having to fight the camera in order to continue moving in the direction they intend.
A few gaming friends decided to marathon the entire franchise over the christmas break, most of them skipped 1 for this one specific reason and never gave any of the other forced perspective games a chance afterwards.

>I'm convinced that fact actively harms it more than it helps it.
It does, but not in a way you think. It just makes players ultra-mobile and responsive, to the point they can zip past most zombies, rendering most of the challenge that comes from tank controls.

>The remake of 1 doesn't have tank controls. It's omnidirectional.
this is only a thing in the HD Remaster of REmake, the original GameCube version DOES have tank controls. Stop sounding like a secondary.

both the 2002 GameCube release and the 2015 HD Remaster have tank controls but the HD remaster (the version thats on every storefront and the one that most people play as the entry point to the series because they don't emulate the 2002 version) has an analog control scheme thats exclusive to that version and is the default control scheme. It's really funny to see people in here both talking about how the game needs to be remade again because tank controls are hard to use when they've already addressed this in the HD port or retards who don't even realize the game DOES have tank controls because they're too stupid to open the options menu.

it's funny that this is the fate of all videogames. just to be remade by completely different teams and passed off as better, more complete versions.
when a game is considered outdated, its sent to the chopping block to be homogenised and stripped of anything that doesn't conform to modern standards

Why do I care what other people you straw manned and made up say?
It's literally the best version of the game unless you care about playable Vergil and completely undercooked characters that are Trish and Lady.
The simple fact that there were changes of the game's physics, gameplay and graphics is enough to call it a side grade at best and to allow the original game to exist for anyone interested enough to buy it legally.

>>734135728
you don't even need to show me gameplay of another RE1 remake because it will be the exact same shit as the last 5 RE games.
I get that seems ironic considering the orignal RE games were the same gameplay over and over again but the static camera angle tank control combat was and is a unique way to engage with a game. Everyone modern RE game is just the same as any other third person AAA game, same combat, same flow, same presentation, same type of features and content, it's all so tiresome.

I unironically wouldn't mind if they remaster 2 and 3 the same way they did 1 and 0 and also remade 1 and 0 in the same way they did 2 and 3. They are allfun.

I played dmc 4 18 years ago on release you braindead mongoloid. I have nothing to prove to retards like you, especially on an anonymous imageboard.
DMC games are not very challenging anyway so seeing you think that a S rank in DMC is some gamer badge of honor is quite funny. Nowadays I play arcade games and try to 1CC them, which are much more challenging than any console 3D action game ever released.

But why do you LOOOOOOOVE all of this remake slop? You couldn’t play 4 before the remake? And now we have 4 after 7 and 8?
Is resident evil just a place for remake addicts to groom zoomers into buying more remake slop? I thought that was silent hill and dragon quest but I guess you have them beat.

>>734124846
I know this is for the HD Remaster, but to be fair a lot of games started having "2D movement" back in the PS2 era as an alternative to tank controls, some include Silent Hill 2, 3 and 4, Haunting Ground, Rule of Rose. But to be fair none of them had prerendered backgrounds but still used the same camera style (for the most part).

It was a nothingburger because it was more than a decade ago. Now, sadly, that stupid shit has some leverage in the decisions of AAA game companies, and now that japanese game devs seem to be following certain western sensibilities, I feel like a RE5 Remake will never be made, at least, for a long time.

It also has the best Mercenaries mode.
