I finished it when it came out. for the good, I thought the story was good and your dialogue and quest choices affected the game as much as new vegas (you even get the ending cutscene that gives a synopsis of each faction and companion) and the world was just the right size. cool stuff to explore but not a giant waste of space. combat had some good points, and a few of the side quests were really interesting. for the bad, enemies became giant health sponges at the end and the weapon and armor system was very limited. there was no reason to use anything besides the unique weapons. imo there’s only one good satisfying ending to the game and the others make it as such that the game isn’t worth a second playthrough. also like new vegas if you leave the story in an almost finished state since there is no post credits game, the world is very fucked up.

I made a mage and turns out mana does not regenerate naturally, so you end up feeling bad about casting spells. Quit the game and never bothered with it again. Absolutely disgusting system.

I actually love this game. The combat feels really good, at least the magic does, and i like the writing. Its not super serious, if that's what constitutes, twitter writing, but it makes many characters have pretty relatable reactions to things. It also can look really good sometimes.

I'm playing it now for the first time and it's ok at best. I loved the first Pillars game so I enjoy the universe, but the Living Lands doesnt feel super interesting to me so far. The grimdarkness of the first Pillars isn't here at all, which makes sense, I guess, since there was nome of that in Deadfire.
I like Kai as a character, but I'm probably being gaslit because he's just Garrus. Combat is alright, I'm enjoying being a caster. Dialog is wholly uninteresting to me tho, especially after having played BG3.
The character creation is fucking stupid tho, since you're expected to have godlike features turned on, yet EVERY SINGLE HAIR OPTION except fucking norwood clips through godlike features. Their way of fixing that is to gove you the option of hiding those features, which is such a baffling decision since the game was made with being a godlike in mind.

Ultimately, this is the most 6/10 game I've ever played.

Great combat, fun exploration, good movement. 2H build that cannot die with high Resolve/Second Wind and Adrenaline was pure dopamine with the reward at the end was sending ragdolls into orbit. Occasional good quest, my favorite NPC was the diplomat secretary, I love listening to lore dumps and the voice actor brought it home. Quest had surprising amount of branching, but in the end there isn't a single standout character like Durance for example. Highlight is how it lets you just stumble over quest objectives before getting the quest for it. In the end, not the best game ever, not the worst. I would say they could've eased on the grafics, but it gave me many nice screenshots.

Fun fact: playing a sharkgirl puts your viewpoint higher. I wondered what was wrong at first since every NPC seemed to look at me differently. I guess it's same for orlans and dwarves.

As a wizardchad, I’d recommend that over cipher for a first play. It’s very powerful and fun. Lots of great spells too. Only benefit of being a cipher is that the cipher companion is boring so you likely aren’t going to use her compared to the wizard one who is story important at times.

Granted I played Planescape when I was 16 so my bar for being impressed was really low but I thought it was incredible. Same for Neverwinter Nights and all its expansions.
