What are some beginner tips for Rimworld? I didn't quite understand the tutorial. The closest I've come to this type of game is Mount and Blade.

Dont build floors
Dont build statues
Dont build anything with value that does not have a use
Dont install cybernetics (they increase pawn value)
Send all your trash to other factions to increase relations
Call said factions to wipe raids for you when their relations hit 100
Sell raider trash and stuff from the faction troopers that died helping you to buy more stuff and keep relations at 100

My best advice is to instal a couple of mods related to food such as fishing. Mostly fishing.
Maintaining a base, fighting intruders off, etc. is mostly RNG, sometimes you're too good but you still get fucked. But you never get good access to food unless you cheese in some way, or install mods, and so your pawns get angry and psychotic and that can ruin the fun too early.

The more pawns you have, the fewer random pawns you'll get asking to join, and fewer raiders that survive battles. Don't accept losers just for an extra pair of hands, only recruit pawns you want long term (eg 150% or more shooting xp gain, good health, young, with a useful secondary skill.)
Make floors out of hay, dramatically reduces the ugliness of the rooms while reducing the time spent cleaning, all for negligible increase to colony cost.
Give your colonists long range weapons, like greatbows or rifle. Stay out of range of the enemy. Don't trade shots, even with cover. Shoot, move. Being able to kite in this way is by far the most important skill, it's how the nerds play on 500% threat.
Deconstruct every single thing on your tile, even the floors. You can either use the stone or caravan it off the map. Some tiles have literally thousands of stone blocks installed around, adding wealth to your colony.
Mine corridors in large rock formations to find hidden resources. There's usually at least steel, and often components, plasteel and gold in the middle of mountains. All adds to your wealth.
Set zones in your prison cells, so if a prisoner goes beserk, you can send an animal to the cell to fight them without waking up your colonists. You can keep multiple prisoners in 1x2 cells if you have a bear or a warg to put down escape attempts.
The lowest wealth, highest value clothing set up is cloth tribal wear, leather duster.

Holy shit that's a sick strat.
I'm playing an animal heavy base right now and that's a great fucking idea.

>And thats when the game ends, becomes boring and meaningless. Because Rimjobworld has no end game a tall
that's a (You) problem, because Rimworld is a story simulator and you are in charge of your objectives (outside the in-game ones). Each expansion adds so much variety, challenges and possibilities, so if you are bored you lack imagination.
In addition, there're so many mods that overhaul the game, so there's no excuse for lack of "end game".

It honestly doesn’t make sense for the overall wealth to contribute to raids. Why the hell are raiders bringing extra soldiers to swipe the granite floor tiles?
Hunter pack sized ought to be scaled off food, tribals off raw resources, raiders off precious metals and robots off technology
>>

>>734123290
>What are some beginner tips for Rimworld?
The more wealth you have in your colony, the stronger raids will attack you.
So don't stockpile tremendeous amounts of stone blocks, or extra chairs, or whatever. Zero reason to own 20 low quality pistols. Sell all that crap, or donate it for rep.
Only hold a reasonable surplus of food and medicine, only recruit reasonably skilled colonists, always make sure that your military power grows at least as fast as your total net worth.
And remember, losing is fun. The point of the game is doing damage control as things burn.

Everything he listed is meta shit to make the game easier
The difficulty of raids scales with how wealthy your colony is

Yeah, no amount of mods will change the fact that the game is one big rolling dice and nothing makes sense, there's no point having a world map if it's all an illusion. Everything plays out the same over and over.

here's a tip: never accept a random pawn if it's not chased by anything, it's 100% a traitor (because fuck you)
>>
>>734123290
You don't need general tips, you're just going to get people telling you their way to cheese the game.
Just play it and then solve problems. Go build a base and see what happens, you'll figure it out. Just expect it to all go to shit eventually.

Start farming as soon as possible, first with rice since it's the fastest growing food source and once you have it stable switch to corn, takes longer, but has a far greater yield and can grow more food on a smaller area, this is to sustain and to produce extra for winter. yes you can hunt ,but that's inconsistent
You should speedrun battery ,solar power, wind turbine research , this can hold your power needs all the way to endgame.
Don't needlessly collect stuff you don't need, especially high value ores like gold, since the higher your colony value the harder the raids will be.Or you can use launch pods to "donate" extra stuff to other colonies for positive reputation.
If possible, have each colonist be a specialist in each stat , especially like a crafter or builder, artists are a nice easy way to make some cash as well since you can use basic wood to make high value sculptures you can sell or keep for increasing you colonies room beauty .

Watch a beginner guide Youtube tutorial. Don't read anything else anyone posts in this thread. These people are all retards who are posting shit you shouldn't care about until you've played a lot more of the game.
>>
>>734136228
there's a reason the dev recommends medium size maps on new game creation
if you insist on playing larger maps then you have to split the colony into groups and have people (slaves) who's only job is to haul and create multiple barracks
>>
>>734123290
Start in moderate climate with warm winters so that you can farm all year long. You can easily survive winters, but it's another headache on a first run.
Set up your pawns' jobs, if nobody has construction skill for example, select any pawn, enable construction on it and disable it on the others so that it starts accumulating skill.
Start farming early, a tiny rice farm goes the long way.
Build traps around corners of the buildings so that a random early raid or animal don't fuck you up too hard.
Consider using QoL mods.

I won't spoil you the main interest of the game.
You should underestimate farming times, emergency supply, power cut, cleanliness, medicine (you can fix it later anyway) and so on.
as >>734127142 said
>Don't accept losers just for an extra pair of hands, only recruit pawns you want long term
The game try to keep you from having more than 12 spawn and kill them out
Do use "zone" for everything, especially smart animals to keep them from dirtying the interior
So you can forbid entire area to your pawn, or keep them safely inside when there's trouble.

There's tons of layers to this thing. Here's a few:
Turn on manual priorities. There's no reason why you wouldn't want to rank the importance of jobs on your pawns.
Anyone with acceptable doctor skills should be carrying medicine or medical herbs on your "Assign" tab.
If you hold shift, you'll queue a command instead of interrupt whatever they're currently doing. Very useful, do it any time something isn't an emergency.
Grow rice for good food with quicker yield. Grow corn for higher output but longer wait.
A perimeter wall is ridiculously useful. Just have reasonably spaced entry points (one per cardinal direction) or enemies will try to smash it.
Get Biotech. It remains the best expansion.
If you're doing anything with Ideology, make damn certain you have 1 starting colonist with high Social skill. It's useful outside Ideology, but converting troublesome belief systems to your own is going to be important or they'll be constant problem-childs.
Turn down all your colonists' best useable medicine so you don't use glitterworld medicine. You need it for biosculpting, so it'd be retarded if you accidentally used it on a scrape.
Build freezers with double-thick walls, and airlocks (at least two doors, autodoors are best) to keep the cold in.
DO NOT build a butcher table in the same room as the cooking stove. One creates filth. The other makes your pawns sick if filth is present.

Yeah but rice is not satisfying enough and the animals are either too dangerous or don't provide enough food in the long run. Both of these sources heavily rely on RNG, and the fishing mod adds a reliable food source while staying balanced (fishing skill + time/workforce cost + different types of fish).
The two most punishing aspects of Rimworld are food sources and intruders and fishing removes part of the food scarcity problem.
>>
>>734143575
Oh, I was thinking like a town or ruin can randomly generate on a tile now. But really, I don't generally attack faction bases. It's such a worthless endeavor, and it's not like removing that nearby pirate base is going to make them spawn less.

One of my best moments in Rimworld is dealing with a huge infestation.
Regular guns didn't work, I was overwhelmed fast.
Fire didn't work, panicking bugs on fire just moved towards the colony anyway.
I figured out that if I close all the cave exits then it becomes a room and if you start a fire in a room temperature will rise and anyone inside will die of heatstroke eventually.
Basically a bug sauna

Alternatively you can play on the lowest difficulty with a non-Randy narrator to make the game very easy. I suck at these management/colony games and still never wiped because it's very easy, unless you have 0 defenses and extreme colony value for some reason.
You can also savescum random events, so if something bad happens that puts your colony at risk just reload a save from 5 minutes ago and something less bad might happen.
No reason to not play 50% of the game even if you suck or are a pussy.
