I use to. I came in at ep3 in JP and played until episode 6 came out. A pity I came in just as all the good story stuff was over cause ep4 and 5 were pretty rough. Ep4 made me drop the story so I just played for the game. I miss it sometimes but I know Nips would never make a PSO2 classic server.

>Never played anything in the Phantasy Star series
>Friend wants me to play PSO2 back in episode 1
>Pretty fun
>Never paid attention to the story cause it wasn't translated when i started
>Braver releases in episode 2
>Think this is a sign of new combination classes
>Bouncer releases in episode 3
>Still prefer Force/Techer but still pretty fun overall
>Episode 4 gives us Summoner
>Still waiting for a Range/Tech hybrid class
>Episode 5 gives us a whole new overpowered Hero class
>They stop releasing hybrids and keep making successor classes
>Scrap it all for NGS garbage
At least i enjoyed Etoile.

You didn't like phantom? Arguably the best caster and rifle is cool. For me it's Luster but it's only really fun in the hardest content because it is overpowered as hell. Wish they would have cut the power level down and never gave it a death cheat and megiverse because it's really fucking fun to use all of luster's other mechanics.

Techer was really fun too. It always makes me sad how much people shit on episode 6 because I personally think a lot of classes were incredibly fun at that point in the game, and it had some of the best quests. I do get it because it is such a far cry from PSO1 or even early PSO2, basically a different game wearing PSO as a skin suit but I liked it.

Hero kinda ruined the difficulty of the game and it was basically downhill if you liked the classic classes or uphill crazy fun just breaking the difficulty of the game with the new super classes. A pity NGS at its best still isn't good enough as PSO2 at its worse. I hope NGS doesn't kill the IP at t he very least.

I honestly feel like episode 6 corrected that a bit. Didn't completely solve it by any means but I felt like in casual play there was plenty of diversity and even in some of the highest level content you still had some base classes dominating (Fo in TA iirc, Su in D100 Sodam with Fi and Gu ahead of Lu). Endless is kind of a different story but every class can get eternal loner. That quest will really exaggerate the differences between classes over a 5+ hour run. I do find it kind of interesting that Ph, Lu and even Et are kind of close still in that from what I can find.
Episode 5 was genuinely dogshit with the balance etc but I really don't think it's anywhere near close enough to that after episode 6. This really is a game where just knowing how to play your class, whatever class it is, will get you through the hardest shit in the game without even having units on.

I hated Phantom and Etoile because the entire game bended over backwards for those classes.
Basically everything used it as a sub except Gu and Fo when they came out.
I particularly have issues with Etoile because it feels like it was designed for people to not engage with JA and facetank while performing simple alternating combos. Other classes want you to be keenly aware of your iframes.
My most hated update was 20% zanverse and weak bullet nerf. I despise people who think 300% weak bullet made ranger obligatory, the very definition of skill issue

NA release was like fucking magic
>first elder EQ
>reach the end and get into an mpa fighting the main body
>about to swing his arms, cringe at how telegraphed it is
>iframe it
>9 people dead
>by the time we finally killed it there were 9 people dead and I was out of moons
It was so much fun finding a use for reverser field on Te.

Phantom was low skill compared to Ranger and also not actually a hybrid. Caster Phantoms only appealed to people who already played Force/Techter. Rifle Phantoms only appealed to people who were willing to settle for a casual class and both wanted to play Ranger but hated manual aim and wanted to play Gunner but couldn't comprehend the combos.
Phantom was a fun subclass because it enabled you to cast for buffs/mobility while still providing damage via crit building. It was not actually a fun class to play, but the numbers it did with extremely low effort and small PA choice made it a cornerstone of the bell curve player.

That makes sense, and checks out because the ranger mains I knew before phantom all stuck to ranger. Honestly the subclass dominance is what I hate about the successor classes rather than the effectiveness of the actual classes themselves.

I completely agree. Ranger was mostly about manual aim and standing still. Phantom felt like they just wanted to make an auto-aim mid range ranged class that used assault rifle. It was awful.
Mid level ranger play could also settle for auto-target too so ph was truly a filter for the ra class. Shame ngs made ranger into some weird ph frankestein.

I still remember the magic of Profound darkness from back then. This track still lives rent free in my head.
