I don't know about final fantasy but RE has been a fujo franchise since 4. and DMC has been a fujo franchise since 3. at least capcom still give us stuff like pragmata i guess..

It's because of consulting companies, which have been a thing since the 90s.
The major gaming industry's trends have been contemporaneous with the trends of female romance novels ever since companies started investing into them because they want that female disposable income.
The things you enjoyed were likely just expys from plausibly deniable wish-fulfillment smut made to appeal to lonely post-wall housewives, you just didn't recognize them.
You enjoyed vampires and werewolves being in plenty of 2000s games at the same time that horny 50 year-old women were reading Twilight.
