I'm really sorry for making this thread again but I'm scrapping my current character and I need tips for what kind of character I should go with. This is my first time playing this game.

Stealthy knife build is super easy, just max out dex and have agi at 7, pump con to 9 for crits from survival instincts and you're all good.
Doesn't need much crafting but it can help. Just keep picking up any feat that gives you crit chance and crit damage.

Is it not super strict on Normal? That's what I'm playing on. My last build was a stealth grenade and gun using soldier type. I partly want to do a new build so I can invest more into crafting. What crafting skills are any good?

Energy pistols go along well with crafting, focus on electronics with a bit of mechanics. Also tailoring for the super steel infused leather.

normal is easy enough that you can just play the game in a non homo way. you can get the crafting skills required for the recipes you find that you think look fun. in my case that was all the different types grenades, traps, poisons and crossbow bolts
most people discussing this game around here have played through it multiple times and are playing it on the hardest difficulty modes and planning their entire character build in advance. it's autism and not fun.

40 bio for adrenaline stims
30 points in throwing so you can use grenades without having to save scum constantly
55 temporal for https://www.stygiansoftware.com/wiki/index.php?title=Psycho-temporal_C ontraction this shit (optional but it's good for every build)
and then pick 1 (one) weapon skill to max every level
the big key is to specialize and use items or dialogue to deal with stuff you're build isn't great at
if you get to depot A and you feel like it's unwinnable or you're really *really* struggling your build probably sucks

You'll find your first non crafted energy weapon when you reach the Junkyard and do a quest with one of the gangs.
You can craft them quite early they just need a lot of components (frame, a discharger, an energy core and whatever attachments you may need). You can get one of said components for free from doing a quest at that location.

Well I guess I'll stick it out with my current build for now until Depot A and then I'll see if I need a do over. I don't think my build is that bad honestly. Also grenades feel like an easy win button in this game. I even got the perk that allows them to cooldown faster

they are really strong early on, when I start the game I get enough chemistry to craft them and spend all my SGS carnival tickets on TNT and grenade casings and use them to rush to depot A. If you find you're relying on them it might be a problem

They are, you can also craft nades you wont be able to buy until the game opens up post-Depot A. After that you can get your hands on blueprints for plasma nades which are imo the best damage dealing grenades in the game.
Plasma for damage
Magnessium/Napalm for DOT
Flashbangs for utility
EMP gets used frequently as theres plenty of robots early on but kind of drops off after the halfway point in the story other than to disable shields.

Just understand that a build has 2 components - what is your weapon and what is your means of stun resistance.
The easiest way to play the game is the assrifle + thought control (you only need thought control for the Locus of Control feat which gets rid of stun). You need 7 int for some crafting feat, I forgot which one.
Also, understand that cheap consumables, especially bear traps and caltrops are fantastic and utterly dominate in the early game. Since you can't actually get your hands on an assrifle in the very beginning of the game, you can get by with molotovs and caltrops and those two will solve most of your problems.
Also, at the very end of the game there is one random speech check that requires 12 int. If you're a mega completionist, you will want to pass that. The only build that has 12 int is the energy pistol build, but that requires of you to understand the crating system and know the merchants well enough to get your hands on an energy pistol super early in the game.
Also I hate oddity XP and never turn it on.

Just make a high INT+CHA pump all the crafting stats (plus lockpicking and hacking) to get all the good gear and use psychokinesis for easy mode stuns and single target nukes. Yes, you will die in a single hit but if the fight goes longer that 3 rounds you were fucked anyways
