Thread #734135181
Man, I miss when cutscenes used to be a reward for overcoming a challenge and beating a portion of the game.
Whether they were state-of-the-art CGI or in-engine, they always had an immense impact on you when you actually deserved them. Even in games with simple or short stories, the cutsenes became iconic as fuck due to this, each and every moment burned into your memory. Now compare this to all the modern slop with HUNDREDS of hours of cutscenes literally nobody remembers. Cutscenes used to be the hardest thing to do in a game, now they're the easiest thing to do in a game, so most games are just cutscenes.

DMC3 opens with a scene to hype you up about what you're about to do and give you some basic context for why you're doing it.
Modern games only give context and weak attempts at drama, no respect for the viewer.

I agree
The OG Resident Evil 4 felt like that, plenty of iconic cutscenes and phrases

God I love RE4. All that hammy dialogue. You don’t be that today. Hasta Luego.
