I'm getting pretty old /v/. I got into the Deadlock early access and played some bot matches last night. Without any other context, I immediately recognized some things.
>3 Lanes, 4 abilities, a shop
>"Okay, this is a 3rd person Moba like Smite. I played a lot of LoL, I got this."
> My mind identified the gameplay loop of "Farm kills, go after towers, buy shit at the shop".
>no tutorial needed, immidiately locked in.
Despite this, I felt so clumsy and awkward. My hands and eyes work well enough, but I could tell my mind was slipping when it came to reacting on the fly, using skills strategically, and figuring out how to navigate the map.

If I were to dedicate months to playing, I'm sure I could improve my skill level, but I feel like if I were younger, the skill progression would be much easier for me. I'm a lot closer to 40 years old than I am 20 years old...

The only reason I'm hanging in there as well as I am is years upon years of gaming muscle memory and the knowledge I've accumulated from countless games I've played. When my hands and eyes start to go, I'll really be cooked.

I actually played a bit of Victor last night when I finished gooning to Ivy. I think I may enjoy his style of play. It gives me Fiddlesticks vibes with his ultimate, and he seems like a fun harasser. I need to play ALL of them, though, so I know how to counter them. That's one of the things I hate about hero shooters/moba shit. You HAVE to respect the roster and understand how everyone works to really excel at the game.

There's a bunch of things to buy in the store, and I'm struggling to figure it out. I need to mess around in the sandbox and see how all the shit works.

I miss her ugly, goofier face. It gave her a unique QT charm that other character designs simply lacked, like one of those ugly rat-faced dogs. Her design horseshoe'd all the way around from repugnant to cute.

I kinda hope they'll offer up some alternate costumes for characters when the game officially drops. As much as I hate to admit it, if Valve were to do a lootbox thing for alternate costumes, weapon skins, emotes, and such, they would make shit loads of money.

I don't think there's TOO much stuff to manage. You have your basic ranged attack. Two melee variations. and your 4 skills. Those are the main active tools everyone has. You can buy certain items that are activated on use, which can increase your toolkit, but I figure everyone kinda fits that general mold, so if you can play one character, you can learn another without too much trouble.

Beyond that, there's a learning movement tech, builds for various characters, how characters work. I think it'd take me a few weeks to figure out things pretty and determine "I can play this game competently" or "I lack the motor skills to really shine at this game on a competitive level." Granted, I don't really play any competitive games these days. I mostly do Darktide and Helldivers 2.

I wouldn't know. I've only played with Ivy, Victor, and the turret lady.

>Unc thought he was smart and a free thinker back when he played games with established metas that he could copy what other players did in
>I-I can't do it no more I'm too old
You never could, unc

My heyday was probably World of Tanks from 2010~2014. I was a part of the top clan that got the M60. That was the first big campaign tank prize. I got a few other campaign tanks as well from subsequent events, but I got into other stuff like Warframe and FFXIV, and gradually drifted away from games that focused on competitive play against other humans. I've found that I become a more PvE-oriented player since 2016 or so, with me occasionally dipping my toes into battlefield-style games for kicks like PlanetSide 2 and other large-scale battle stuff. That's mostly me driving around in tanks or flying in gunships, blowing people away with impunity. Not real PVP style play in a conventional sense.
