>have to play on 640x480 res, anything above and its too zoomed out and you can't control thatm everything is miniscule on 1440p and you can see the whole map all at once even with the latest cncnet fixes
goddamnit, someone please find the source code to remaster this and RA2, i'll get used to it but it feels primitive after coming from cnc1 remaster, despite that games balance etc

No, it's not, you fucking moron. Even the cheapest piece of shit monitor today is much bigger than the average monitor this game was made for, so even at a higher resolution, it wouldn't look small. That doesn't mean you have to go full retard and play it at 4k.

Tib Sun deserved a better designed campaign. I don’t know why Westwood felt morally opposed to objectives besides “Destroy all enemy forces, including every harvester and fence post”
>>
>>734143345
maybe tech limitations, almost every mission in cnc1 was that as well
then again I hear ra2 is better with more varied objectives so idk, gonna play ra2 after sun

OP here's a protip how to play old games that don't scale well to modern resolution
>first it has to run in windowed mode
>then you download this app called magpie, install it, pick FSR scaling
>heard losless scaling does almost the same thing but you have to pay to use it
>select window to scale up to your monitor resolution
boom, old 800x600 games perfectly playable on modern 4k screen

>>
>>734144002
Sometimes you may have to fuck around with the capture method in the defaults profile, not all games work with the same setup so mix and match until it works. I've tried it in variety of games and after few minutes of tinkering it ends up working fine.
This tool was made in mind with visual novels mind you, the filters for 3d games may not always look great.
>>
>>734144172
almost every PC game these days has a widescreen patch out there somewhere, especially 3d ones, but yeah the way the engine is in tiberium sun doesn't allow proper scaling, i guess its a bigger issue for 2d games
>>
>>734143503
RA2 is only better by virtue of once you destroy 99% of the enemy, they self destruct whatever is left. The objectives are still basically the same. Just seems weird compared to other RTS games at the time like StarCraft or AoE 2, where you’ll often face 2-4 different enemy factions at the same time. Yuris Revenge IS Udo Kino tho.

Just double the res, it's not too zoomed out then. There's an open source port in the works but who knows when it's coming out, it's not even public yet. Right now you can use the TS Client with all the community fixes Btw the source for TS is probably not as lost as RA2's

RA2 would like a remaster, especially of the quality C&C1 got, but it doesn't need it. It's still an awesome game today.
But Tiberian Sun NEEDS it. I replayed it last year and it's just so clunky I couldn't enjoy it except when treating it as a basebuilding sim.

Classic C&C does a better job with an overarching “story” in the single player than the other games do. It’s neat to see the state of the world gradually evolve from pseudo Gulf War, to this creeping feeling that the worst is yet to come as more and more environments get taken over and mutated. Even your dude in the pic dies of Tib poisoning throughout his appearances.

There's also the program Lossless Scaling on steam, its 10 bux but can be pirated if you want to test it. It works very well with every game I've needed to use it with.

>>
>>734143345
Tbh I can't agree with that, if anything, they were too ambitious with their missions as you can even get softlocked due to complex triggers. The problem with the campaign is that they supposedly made the cutscenes before they finished the campaign, so the story is kinda jumpy.

>>734148196
The game does not mention this but if you look closely at the GDI soldiers in cutscenes, they appear to have some sort of exoskeleton. Kinda genius, if you think about it, to yeet some 3 kg disc of HE to hundreds of meters with computer-aided accuracy and machine-enhanced strength. basically a one-man instant-portable mortar. Add to this that you can see in the SAM cutscene that the disc thrower actually has a detonator in his hand which he can use to make the grenade go airburst at will. Once again, probably computer-aided with his HUD. Almost makes you wonder if it would be practical IRL with these technologies.

>>
>>734166783
it's a bit clowned on for having such a light hearted tone, but it's absolutely a must play for the campaign imo, every single campaign has big titty babes egging you on to win it for their side, there's Japan with the most anime inspired units ever, and the game just plays great, the controls are so responsive, it's almost like a parody of RA with the absurdity of the stereotypes but that's also why it's so entertaining, highly recommend a playthrough of the 3 campaigns
>>
>>734166783
It has some controversial changes, like:
1 - resource gathering is simplified, and
2 - every unit has an active ability
But once you get over that and learn to adapt, I found it to be immensely fun. I was unable to play much of RA3 online due irl circumstances, but I recall spending so much time playing AI skirmish compstomps in my university library, lol. The 30 fps lock sucks, and sometimes the pathfinding gets wonky, but never really gets in the way of it being enjoyable. The biggest criticism RA3 gets is the balancing, because the Allies gets the most outrageous unit ever invented in the series, the Cryocopter. Imbalanced as shit. But that's really only an issue if you're aiming to be competitive at the highest level.
>>
>>734167124
>having your Japanese troops charge with katanas
>having your conscripts pull molotovs
Feels fuckin great, I love ra3, it's clowned on a lot by the hardcore Westwood fans but for no good reason imo, as if resource collection is very complex in 1 and 2, spam refineries whenever possible next to the biggest fields lol, I'm going to play sun gdi then nod then firestorm gdi nod then ra2 then TW then RA 3, sure hope I don't burn out, but these campaigns are all pretty short desu

How horrible is the balance in TibSun anyway? I was too retarded as a kid and just Titan spam or hurr durr devils tongue+subterrainian apc with engineer when playing the game.
>>
>>734167950
So far all I can tell is disk throwers are amazing so there's an actual reason to use infantry, but there's still stuff that obliberates it, also crushing inf is way easier than in dawn, I mean at least there's enough resources to acrually build what u want tho
>>
>>734167950
It's pretty bad, but at least the GDI campaign maps are designed so that it rewards you for using different units. The Titan is just mechanically so good: hitscan gun, rotating turret, lots of HP so it can rush Nod artillery. Then you have air which is really hard to counter with any units...
>>
An active Tiberian Sun thread? On my /v/?
>>
>>734167950
It’s crap, but that’s C&C for you. Just spam your main battle tank because infantry are too weak to do anything except for engineers. Each side gets an additional four “gimmick” vehicles which are never as cost effective as just making more tanks. Nod artillery is favored in vanilla but I remember it was weakened in the expac. Play it for vibes. Don’t expect any kind of tuned or fair gameplay.

They put a ton of work into lighting and terrain deformation just to make every map either a barren dirt wasteland or a barren snow wasteland. What a shame. Coming across classic C&C structures hidden on some maps are pure kino though. As a kid I was convinced there had to be some kind of way to capture and repair them.

yknow what was fun, 5 missile defender 1 engine humvee army in Generals, takes some micro but most fun strategy in the series imo

Generals had a lot of good shit. Probably the most mechanically satisfying of any of the C&C games, except for the aurora bombers. So many cool units that were actually useful.

The lighting system paired with the pretty glowing tiberium crystals creates such a godly atmosphere

You might want to look up Nox, another Westwood 2D game with good lighting. It's an ARPG though. Screenshots don't do it justice.

Kek, same here. I had a friend who convinced me it was possible to capture certain neutral civilians buildings to enable training/building mutant & forgotten units. This was the era of peak unfounded bullshit game rumours.

Also I think basically every rts suffers from this balance issue btw, not just cnc, in age 2 for example, been a while since I played but basically how you win is by spamming 2 types of units, one gold unit and another food wood unit to act as fodder, which those are differ based on civ but that's pretty much it, any other strategy (mixed armies) is a noobtrap, for mp at least

Queerer still is that even in the most bullshit imbalanced RTS of the past, I still managed to have fun. And I don't think it was a simple case of "oh you were young and didn't know any better".

okay though age 2 is a bit different since it still receives regular updates, has 20k daily players and has big tournaments

Current meta seems to be Scouts x a gold unit, but you can counter it with pikemen, classic rock paper scissors ig, it's one of the most balanced rts games, especially since most civs share the same units

AoE 2 tries to tell you that turtle tactics are the way and then give you campaign missions that all but require you to bum rush their free expansions before they get a chance to completely drain the map of resources.

I mean it doesn't matter, you can win with anything vs AI, just depends on you how easy or hard u wanna make it on yourself, even if you mass medium tanks, some missions in ra2 allies are hard because the soviets have insane defenses, as an example, the campaigns aren't brain dead easy even with ideal compositions

>make a game so good that you can play it for 20+ years without ever getting bored
How the fuck did they do it? There hasn't been a single year in my life where I haven't opened up RA2 and played at least one map
>>
>>734170367
You can turtle any time vs normal AI in age 2 since resources are plentiful and you can (and should) have over 100 workers on eco, but ideally u harass while building up, a single scout on the enemy villagers is a huge pain
