The black sheep of the classic FF games, that gets unjustly hated because of some e-celeb.
Does a lot of things weird, does some things bad, but also does a lot of things very right. Great world, great music, great exploration, Squall is a great main character, and very fledxible mechanics.

the remaster? no
the game itself? not really
ff8 is the only game that actually needed a remake, it has a lot of really cool ideas but they're all either done horribly, not developed at all, or needed to get cut. it's the peak game to cause people 5-10-15 years later to go "wow it's awesome because of that 1 scene I remember and not the other 29 hours of bullshit"

This
FF8 had a god tier soundtrack. Just don't abuse the junction system like a lil bitch and you'll have a great time. Lots of side quests and mini games, memorable plot points. Man they were cooking with FF7-10, then it all went to shit with everything going online.

What's the difference? I bought the Remastered when it was on Sale a while ago, but I have fond memories of playing the original.
I know they 'improved' character models but did they make any changes to story, quests, combat, action, anything like that?
If they did I'll go with the original.
(Yes I know it's still Steam version and not the REAL og but I don't have access to a PS1 right now)

Draw isn't even the biggest problem with the game. That'd be Junction making literally everything else obsolete, or every character being basically identical, or the retarded level scaling that incentivizes you to do shit like card enemies to never gain a level, or the perfectly fine Limit Break mechanic being reworked into a worse version for no reason, or combat being basically deterministic with how much fucking menus you have to fiddle with, the fact that your GFs, which are basically your equipment slots, are often missable if you don't Draw every enemy to exhaustion, etc etc etc.

fuck off, retard. level scaling in a JRPG literally adds nothing to the fucking game and merely introduces several ways to make it miserable to play. every other FF title plays better by not having it.

>gameplay actually exists and this is bad somehow
>I NEED 90% of the map to be level 1 encounters I can beat in less time than the intro animation and loading screen takes to complete
Learn how to play the game.

Why on earth should I go back to the starter area that I beat back then with a wooden sword and find out the monsters have inexplicably octupled in strength?
>>734157941
So, again, the mechanic is pointless! All it does is introduce more ways to screw yourself over.

Original is fun. I wouldn't play a remaster.

Level scaling doesn't actually introduce any ways to "engage with game mechanics." It just introduces new ways to trivialize the game (not leveling). In fact, it makes you engage with the game LESS, because it's more favorable to keep enemy levels low, meaning you see less of thenmost complex AI they get with higher levels.
>>
>>734158057
level scaling is for retards who run from every fight and then complain that mandatory fights are too hard. whenever a game has some retarded mechanic you can safely assume it's because of idiots in focus test groups who refused to engage with the game like a normal person.
>>
>>734158474
Running from every fight will actively help you in FF8 because enemies outpace the stat growth you get with levels. The optimal path is to kill as little enemies as possible and only get stats from Junction.
>>
>>734158324
this is retarded and only idiots who didn't play the game parrot this.
if my 10 year old self could beat it while grinding the hell out of levels in the training center early on then what the fuck is your excuse
>>
>>734158691
>oh but I could beat it!!!
I don't fucking care you retard. It doesn't matter if it's beatable. It sucks to play and is retarded for a JRPG to make the game harder for you for daring to defeat enemies. It actively disincentivizes you from ENGAGING IN COMBAT. It is objectively a terrible mechanic that adds nothing to the game.

You just want a game where you can not actually play the fucking thing beyond walking between story events. That's all you're saying. Without level scaling, you still get random encounter battles, but now you're wasting time sitting through the loading screen and intro for a fight that takes 3 seconds to finish while giving you nothing in return.
>>
>>734158812
>make the game harder for you for daring to defeat enemies.
it doesnt: when you level up you do more damage, the difficulty doesn't change. What you're saying is "it sucks that the game doesn't get way easier when I overgrind"

>it doesnt: when you level up you do more damage, the difficulty doesn't change
Did you even play this game? Enemies flat out improve at a higher rate than you. A level 5 character can take on a level 5 enemy rather easily, but a level 30 character will have a lot of trouble defeating a level 30 enemy. Enemies also see a huge jump in strength at levels 10 and 30. you don't know what you're talking about.
Leveling up also does very little to increase your stats. The game was designed with junctioning in mind, so you're not going to get much stronger when you raise a level, because most of the stat growth is keyed to Guardian Forces that increase your stats when you level-up with one equipped.

It's alright.
It has a lot of problems in terms of story, but also some really neat moments.
Ganeplay can be quite abuseable, but it has some neat instant-gratification with how you increase your power.
I guess it's in the top 10 among final fantasy games for me, but wouldn't be in my top 100 games in general.
If you've already enjoyed some other final fantasies, you can give it a go.

I don't want a remake, but I agree it has some cool ideas and they should steal ideas from ff8 when they make a new game.

Every Final Fantasy is good. Yes, even the bad ones, cause those are still better than any other JRPG.
Only exception would be 7R so far. We don't know since the story isn't complete yet
