Yes the vanilla 2 is superior because it has gore and more enemy spawns but until it's not perfectly emulated Sigma/Black 2 are fine and they still mog most action games on the market.

Basically Platinum didn't care about any characters or locations in Ninja Gaiden so they figured they would instead fill the game with their own OCs and completely change the setting believing they would be superior. They were not. Now as a result, Ninja Gaiden as a setting/story ends with Ryu failing to protect the world, all other characters disappearing, and Ryu fucking everything up working with an evil corporation until fucking Yakumo comes along to beat his ass and fix things.

hey i don't really care about that desu, in fact I like NG3 because it had an actual story (gameplay was fucking something though) it's just more of such a fucking whiplash like what the fuck. I just wish this game had a minimap or something because I hate missing side quests though. man as much as I enjoy a linear adventure once in a while, you think a character action game would make a game where it's a hub world and you take missions and improve the town you're in type thing rather than open world slop or it being completely linear.

Give Darksiders 2 a try to see if it's up to your tastes. It's character action lite with a lot more exploration than you'd expect from actual games in the genre.
As for the localization, it's a lot more common than you think. What's unusual in this game is that if you choose japanese audio they subtitles are a fair bit more faithful to the original script. This is the exception, usually they just give you dubtitles with all of the rewrites and pretend there's nothing wrong with it and as long as the changes aren't politically charged, nobody will ever talk about it on social media or whatever.

That was one district on top of a few buildings. If you look at the skybox the rest of the city is just modern day Tokyo. The thing that made some Ninja Gaiden levels look nice was always the mix of flashy modern advanced architecture mixed with traditional themes, lots of vibrant colours. All of NG4 looks like it takes place in a fighting game training stage.
