I liked the writing in the first game well enough, but yeah, the writing team in Ragnarok was a massive step backwards. That's part of the reason why I'm wary about anything else they put out.

I'm wholly expecting the remake of the original trilogy to outsell Faye's game unless they really butcher it and let their current writers change up the first 3 games.
