normalfags thought this

I wouldn't mind pausing to shift boots if it didn't stutter on actual hardware. Crazy that wasn't fixed before release.

>>734155665
I love it when people willfully pretend complaining about tedium is the same as complaining about difficulty.

Morpha ends up being incredibly easy

3/4 of the Majora's Mask temples were way more tedious

This shit was way harder

Majoras Mask is full of filters, if you reach this your IQ probably went high enough to not complain about it being hard.

Real Zelda fans love the Water Temple. It's Zelda at its most Zelda.

agreed
OOT dungeons are baby-mode compared to MM dungeons

if you conflate wasting time running back and forth through mostly empty rooms to play with switches to find the right elevation to get to the next room with difficulty, sure.

also i have a sneaking suspicion that most "unc"posting is done by 30-something social misfits because they can't be genuine about games they want to talk about anymore and just drum up trends they hate to deflect their insecurities onto.
>>
it's not that its hard its fucking boring

>5 seconds to swap boots, 5 more to swap back, 20 seconds to sink to the bottom
>30 seconds to change water level
It's well designed dungeon ruined by above. The central tower has a part people often overlook and get stuck there, is more of a skill issue.

Black people cant swim, and so only niggers thought this level was hard

Children thought it was hard.

Yeah Snowhead and Lakebed just got annoying after a while. Stone Tower is fine unless you're going for stray fairies, in which case it's the worst of the lot.

bitch please, that shit was easy compared to Castlevania 64 "no jump" nitro bomb.

No, eight year old kids in 1998 don't qualify as boomers. Adults played other games if they wanted a challenge in 1998. I shit on the Nintendocentric view of gaming history, so sick of it.

>>734155665
No.

>>734155665
I was like 12 when this was a thing... and no one over the age of 17 played video games unless you were clearly a social reject or went to a party and played golden eye with your buddies.

People tend to forget that video games back then were mainly seen as a kids thing.

In the context of OoT, is a fairly unique dungeon in the sense it doesn't quite challenge you to what i call a 'track course' like all the other temples do. Instad, it offers a 'maze like' challenge. Knowing where you are and what to do next is what makes this temple different and most players didn't like that, they didn't want to use their gnoggings. Sure, changing the water levels and the boots can get annoying, more so when you keep repeating areas over and over hoping to find something new. But once you know what to do, it's pretty straightforward and can be done in like a single cycle of water.
All in all?
Amazing dungeon, probably my favorite in the game.
>>
>>734155665
It's not difficult, it's just incredibly annoying to have to pause, scroll, remove the boots, do some bullshit for three seconds, pause, scroll, put on the boots, ad nauseam.
>>
Now that I'm an adult it's honestly my favorite temple in the whole game. None of them have the same sense of verticality.
>>
>>734155665
Back then kids played video games and men did nuclear physics or blue collar jobs.
>>
>>734155665
There is one key that's hard to find. The only valid complain.
>>
>>734157924
There are three different water levels with several entrances being blocked. You have 12 ways to go with only 4 being available at a time. This is on par with the Skyrim claw "puzzle".
>>
>>734155665
boomers were 10yo playing that game
zoomers need yellow paint to find their way in a straight hallway
>>
>>734155665
Yes. It's a confusing dungeon. I spent hours looking for one hidden key when I was 10 years old.

Ignoring the frustrating part about manually un/equipping the iron boots just to control your elevation in water, the Water Temple was challenging for a lot of players who were then adjusting from playing 2D games to true 3D.

The Water Temple demands that you navigate it in three dimensions, having the most verticality of any of the dungeons in the game. Whilst other dungeons do have raised walkways that you'd ascend or descend with climbing or leaping, this wasn't that far removed from Link to the Past's layered dungeon floors.

The central room of Water Temple takes you between all of the floors, and requires paying attention to how paths open or close depending on the water level. That itself isn't unfamiliar from the switch based puzzles in LttP or Link's Awakening, but has greater complexity, and blind spots where you might miss new openings.
>>
>>734160796
it really isn't, much more complex, has mini bosses and hard enemies, requires you to use a bunch of items and you can't just bruteforce the water flow thing
stray fairies and the time just make it harder
>>
>>734161182
Dark Link is harder than anything in GBT unless somebody told you to use the megaton hammer. GBT bosses are all a joke. The time is a non-factor. OoT Water Temple really is a lot harder. Both are good but GBT is really good. I implore you to replay both (I did recently) and try to look at it with fresh eyes.
>>
>>734161182
GBT is like 4 rooms... Water temple is way more complex dude. Keys hidden pretty well, you need to manage the water levels and notice what changes when you do etc.
>>
>>734161090
Did kids not think anything of that suspicious block?
>>
>>734155665
theres a single passage way in the center tower that gets revealed when the temple is filled with water that everyone seems to miss for some reason
this is it. this is the whole reason it's considered difficult and confusing.
if you happen to notice it it's just a normal temple. if not, you're lost in an endless maze.
>>
>>734162397
I did
my problem with the water temple was missing an iron key somewhere and scrounging the whole temple for it. Same thing happened to me in the shadow temple where a random room had an iron key inside a chest hidden in a dirt pile.
