There's a contingency of people that are, or are spiritually trapped back when SEGA was still in the actual console business and unable to contain their loathing for Sonic given he was the effective mascot for the Genesis.

Saturn had Segata Sanshiro and even if the Dreamcast had Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 it was more its own mascot as a last hurrah for the company since the writing was on the wall and they wouldn't really be doing hardware manufacturing outside of Arcades after that.
