It has everything in place to just be RE4 2.0 but design wise it's just fucking terrible. Occasionally 4 would hand you these wider maps that were fun to mess around in, RE5 is just practically a corridor shooter. It peaks with the African Wetlands mission and truly goes downhill from there.
Doesn't help that it's also just basically built around the idea of you replaying missions or going through multiple times. Also most of the boss fights fucking suck.

It's not winning the game when I'm making a tactical decision to allow her to target enemies from afar/provide covering fire with machine guns while I stick and move with a fully powered pistol and shotgun doing the damn thing and leading the enemies around. The beauty of having the companion and co-operative play is that each person can choose to play how they want and even create complimentary styles. Sheva snipes the occasional head in the distance, lays down rapid covering fire, heals me before I even stand up, and carries grenades while I do the actual meat of the game which is triggering hitstun and grouping/leading enemies
