I've been looking at Honor of Kings World lately. It just launched in China. It's pretty and impressive on a technical level, but the gameplay doesn't excite me. It just reminded me of FFXIV but worse. It actually made me pine for tab target gameplay.

So, I went and watched a bunch of FFXIV gameplay and then realized, maybe I don't want that either. Maybe I'm getting hit with a lot of nostalgia. More than I realize. Because there was a time when FFXIV was great to me and for a long time I was happy with it. But how would I feel about going back to it now? Do I actually want to play what FFXIV again?

Then, I thought, maybe I shouldn't bother with either HoKW or FFXIV. Because it's not the game I'm chasing, but a memory of better times.
