>Are mystery dungeon games allowed in this thread?
Generally yes, most mystery dungeon games(Shiren the Wanderer, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, Etrian Mystery Dungeon, etc.) can be considered roguelikes
>Is Elin/Elona allowed?
Yes, they are roguelikes. Please do not post your Little Sister farms
>Is Dwarf Fortress allowed?
If it's adventure mode, yes. But adventure mode is boring. /tg/ has a general for fortress mode playthroughs but you can share here too!

Found another CRIT base. Almost got did in, was able to kill a brute but it broke me arm. I sent in Cyborg wife to finish off the rest with machine gun. Now was a good time to sort my loot. I basically took one of every clothing item I want, plus a spare. Sorting piles to break down and unload, and fixed everything I wanted fixed before reloading the truck. I'll siphon out the fuel and be off. Not sure where i'm going, hoping to find some more CMBs but might have to lab dive more for that.

If you know what you're doing, you *can* play it nearly like an autobattler where all the combat is done for you. That's because character customization involves picking skills and items with certain triggers to activate effects, and a few of the triggers are automatic, like "on entrance". If you only pick automatic triggers then you don't have to do much input in battle. I don't usually play that way, but it can definitely win.
For the record most triggers, like attack, hit stand still, prayer, step, etc. will require player input to activate. You can design your character however you want, and depending how you put your character together, you will use different tactics to fight enemies. Different enemies are more or less dangerous to different builds. That creates a lot of variety in both gameplay and build design, with meaningful differences from run to run. That's why people like it.

You should have some AOE stuff to deal with getting swarmed. If you're, instead, being plinked to death by an enemy psyker, you should have put more points into ego. Skill issue.

Failed my first trve win in the final boss' lair on a summoner build of all things cuz I didn't read the fact that the arbiter applies six million inflame each time you summon. The dev really wanted to make sure that idler and summoner builds were doodoo higher up, huh? I guess it makes sense. Kind of? wm1 builds are honestly way more easy and straightforward for me at least.
>>
>>557370638
The only stand still/summoner builds that I've gotten to work are the ones that heavily abuse the astral tree because meditate is broken. If you have a ton of patience you can just abuse the astral/ice prestige class.

You shouldn't get hit in qud like at all when you get your build off the ground. Ideally you see the bad man first and have some way of killing or debilitating him super fast or have a strat to bypass his specific gimmick. There are multiple enemies that can stunlock you, freeze you, insta kill you, teleport you to their abuse chamber, shoot you with their super gun and so on. Engage on map edges to change zones easily if need be. Corners are good since you can easily move through 2 zones in 2 turns what should allow you to escape most pursuers. In the end qud heavily relies on player knowledge. Once you know gimmick of the enemy you can play around that.

Worm Born prestige is conceptually weak because you get martial stats from keeping summons alive. The two ideas just don't work together, but the numbers are really good to make up for it.
I didn't actually get to test my damage because the game put Firebirds in the final area, and I had to take off my damage items to have Scorch removal. I could probably deal 10 million damage in a single hit if I was wearing the poison redeal skirt instead.

>>
>>
>>557421916
It is legit 50% hit/block per summon so yeah when you have the guys alive to buff you, you will do a lot of damage. It is really not comfortable playing an attack build that gives a lot of different enemies inflame stacks on summon, though.

This is probably the most fun I've had with Achra. Insane damage and block, but with a 1/10 chance of any attack hitting me directly, meaning I still had to pay close attention to my positioning. Good times.

You guys are getting up there in cycles. This is about where the game starts to feel really hard if you let the enemies put any sort of debuffs on you because the stacks are amplified by a crazy amount. Watch out for Scorch especially.

Really? Magic Dart has always benefitted from spell power. If you start as Hedge Wizard, the same spell is a lot weaker.
The bigger change was just adding low level spell parchments as common drops, instead of only books dropping, so that your DECj always has useful spells available. It makes it a lot easier to use your high aptitudes because the game drops you more spells which tend to be a wider variety of schools.

I'm just really surprised by killing gnolls on D:3 in 3-4 casts, but I also did take a bit of a break, so I absolutely could be misremembering
parchments feel almost excessive, but maybe that too is
>back in my days...
dementia
I'm really enjoying the orbs, in any case
>>
>>557508214
I'm not a fan of parchments, doom, or the shapeshifting rework. The orbs would be cool if one of the orb types didn't put doom on you and make you leave halfway through Zot to grind off status effects. I don't think experience should be the method to remove doom and banes.
Parchments also feel like the current devs don't look at magic in the same way earlier devs did. The loot in DCSS has always been highly variable, at least as long as I've played, like some games you find a +10 long sword artefact on D3, and some games you have to clear Lair with a random scimitar you found. Finding books wasn't guaranteed either, so your casters had some hard games and some easy games. Now you just find parchments every game with level-appropriate spells, and you don't have those hard games with bad loot that you have to struggle through. They've moved spells from the domain of highly variable loot into the domain of predictable, expected character progression. I think that's why casters are meta right now (though of course Minotaurs are still easy mode too).
>>
>>557509651
shapeshifting just feels dead to me; 5 turns to take off a talisman is utterly stupid
like, sure, maybe
>rush ice form, rush blade hands, rush statue form
wasn't a particularly involved strategy, but there was at least a potential for meaningful tactical decisions which is just gone
spellcasters do seem to be strongly favored; parchments, instant first gift from Veh, Jiyva cant eat spellbooks... just feels biased, and doesnt feel like
>struggle early to get strong a bit earlier
at all anymore
but hey maybe my 3 wins are simply enough, even though the strongest one was only 5 runes. not like I am anywhere near consistent anyway

Those guys can definitely be tough when the game first switches from "early game enemies" to "mid game enemies". They're just a big ball of stats, so you have to know how strong your character is before clicking on that stage.

By the way this is the enemy that kills me more than any other. I guess some builds just nuke the entire map and never have to worry about it, but even a build with 4 or 5 range like a Jade Pilum can get screwed by these guys attacking at 20 range, if the random map generation decides to leave them an open lane to attack at max range.
Honorable mention to Firebirds being uber fast and applying 200 stacks of Scorch in a single attack. They can even apply Scorch outside of line of sight.

Mostly nobecause I've become tired of forcing blight cult memes to watch the game do things without my input for over a full minute, but their sheer speed still fucks over some of my melee dudes.
I've definitely gotten schmacked by the flower things, too, in the exact way you describe. When you've got 5 of them on the opposite side of the map from you, and you actually have to attack them to kill them, you're generally just fucked. Their King in Yellow impersonation goes hard.

I did an uno reverse on the final boss. The Poison King puts corrosion stacks on me when he attacks, so I used this Hamid Pendant. He puts 1000 corrosion stacks on me instantly, and I get +5 flat damage per corrosion stack. I press my 3rd prayer with 56 grace stacks and he instantly dies to 56 astral damage hits and 56 lightning damage redeal hits. Every single hit gets the +5000 damage from corrosion stacks.

Does DCSS still have the stupid design of

>of door is closed the spell dissipates faster
And I assume that if line of sight affects this, then the following also occurs?

Clouds and temp things like foxfires and orbs of destruction still disappear the turn they leave los, if that's what you mean. If you Firestorm at the edge of los the aoe does the normal damage beyond los but the fireclouds and vortexes don't spawn where you can't see.

I don't remember that specifically, last I looked it was that some giant monsters or some shit had come through the portals, wrecked everything and then either died or fucked off back through the portals. Mostly as an excuse for why you can survive and armies couldn't. No idea idea what it is now.
I also don't think BNs has the exact same lore as DDA now anyway and I don't have the faintest about the other branch.

True. Casters are so OP in Achra. It's like they don't give a fuck about anything other than your resistance to whatever element they are using. You could have 50000 poise while they have 50000 blind and they'd still be hitting you for 1000+ every turn from 20 tiles away.
Wanna know what else is OP? You turning yourself into an even more broken caster with Aim.

Finally cleared out the lab with the help of my cyborgfu. Her hand to hand is good enough now where she can send people flying, helped a ton when dealing with a hulk near the bottom. There is one of those diamond coating machines down there and I got some mildly useful cbms out of it, oh and like 40 mininukes so I have a way to beat the game.
Currently I have to expand my car. I found a few welding rigs down there and some of those 3d printers so I'm going to lug those up with me and eventually slap them in the car.

Idler and summoner builds are z tier, even the "broken" ones. Why? Because you ultimately have to let yeezus take the wheel. On an aggressive character I can actually make decisions that can save my life like moving in certain directions, attacking certain enemies, etc. I might just have to break my self imposed challenge of doing unique builds on every run because all the shit I have remaining pigeonholes me into this god awful playstyle.
>>
>>557545114
I feel you. I need to get Prisma done for the star, but I keep putting it off because higher-cycle summoning builds are both boring and bad.
I've been trying it with the Death/Fire prestige and your usual blight culting; it's definitely winnable, but dps is a serious problem. Last run I thought I'd give Lizard Head a go to try to shore it up and got BTFO by the snek boss. I think instead I need to just build it like a standard Death sacrifice run, with the helmet that adds doom, and just use the fire damage as a vehicle to add scorch.
That said - the fact that the prestige gives you hits on your own dudes is interesting. I've just been using it with pyrokinesis to ramp up ally deaths, give healing, and add a little damage onto adjacent enemies, but I had another idea. There's an astral chakram that causes units to teleport on hit. What if I took that and splashed Master Teleport to give myself Meditate? I think there's potential there, but it would mean I can never pray again without randomly dumping myself into enemy mobs, so I'm not sure how to reconcile that.
>>
>>557526476
the new heavy class will also fuck up combat-focused builds
idk how the discord/patreon score topping clique feels about it but to me it feels like Kyzrati just overclocked the game's difficulty because the discord clique is all he interacts with so when he sees them doing meme runs like it's a PS2 children cartoon licensed game he must feel that the game is too easy, you still have farcom and easy modes but the game feels overall harder than it has ever been.

>EMmaxxing got axed
Still works on most common enemies and it's the go-to for dealing with endgame hunters. Tesla bomb launcher and gamma bomb array are top tier crowd control.
>GOLEMmaxxing is meme tier
Pick up some of the biocells from the zionite cache so you can drop a full biocell to draw from it if you blow your wad early. You can also turn off 1 cannon if you think firing all 3 on a lone target will be overkill.
>fabmaxxing got axed
Authchips are more forgiving than the old system that would lock you out of all the fabs, and you can make authchips yourself with a brute force hack.
>rambomaxxing got axed

>8 weapon slots
How??? At this many it doesn't matter how much matter or energy or cooling you have, you'll run out of capacity in a few volleys unless the goal is to abuse penetration(requiring mapgen to have made long thick corridors that hunters can't snipe you) to deal massive cumulative damage or using weapons as juryrigged armor
>biocells
of course but one biocell buys you like what, 2 or 3 volleys worth of time, not enough if rng doesn't wanna cooperate and you failed to hit core for 3 volleys in a row for ONE enemy out of 3 currently aggroed
>EMmaxxing
Yes but corrupted parts suck massive amounts of the great nut's nuts, the main appeal was that EM gave you free parts in exchange of higher energy cost and being useless against programmers just like kinetic is cheaper and has penetration in exchange of needing matter and being useless against hunters
i legit don't understand how people manage to sterilize floors like it's nothing, i know the meta setup but i wonder if its all RNG luck and they had to try multiple times before all variables were favorable for multiple floors in a row
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>557601279
>How???
>using weapons as juryrigged armor
This is part of it. Guns have enough coverage that having 6 or more of them makes them function as your main armor. There's also the weapon mount utility that gives +20 accuracy but doubles weapon coverage. You could use that and fight at maximum range to take full advantage of your accuracy.
>one biocell buys you like what, 2 or 3 volleys worth of time, not enough if rng doesn't wanna cooperate
It's been the same for as long as I can remember. Carry more biocells, control your fights with sensors and jamming so you don't fight 3 at once, maybe use different reactors when you get ones that can generate as much as flux gen. VCR is better than flux gen and has a biocell's worth of storage. If you get enough utility slots to get all the golem utils, you get a second biocell array.
>corrupted parts
Put them on right before you evolve, or put them on and eat the corruption if you need them enough. Corruption is annoying but there are now three utilities to counter it. System restoration module got nerfed because you can't remove or repair it now, but there's also a corruption screen that blocks incoming corruption and a system guard for when you're already corrupted and have to put up with it. I had a run yesterday where I got 40% corruption from a combo of a bad chute and a bad dig that crushed multiple processors. I found so many system restos that I was down to single digit corruption by the time I got to caves.
>sterilize floors
Launchermaxxing and positioning are important. You can set up a base by using Trojan(Mask) on a recycling unit and build up a cache of spares that the recyclers won't mess with, then take your time setting up a nuke build. Launcher loader is like quantum capacitor for launchers, or you can simply stack 2-3 launchers. Lots of spare matter and a tractor beam are required though.

How do I approach fighting humans with guns in CDDA? I got a couple of missions to kill bandits, and I'm afraid they're gonna swarm me with firearms. So far my killcount is 1400 something, but it's all zombies and wasps and such. I've been using melee and throwing stuff at hostiles, but I don't think that's going to work against guns.
My combat stats are: 9, 12, 8, 9 base stats. 4 melee, 5 unarmed, 4 bashing, 4 dodging, 8 throwing. 3 handguns and 3 rifles, which I almost never use. My character knows aikido, bojutsu, judo, karate and tiger.
For weapons, I use some 9mm handgun in emergencies, but the bulk is my throwing axe, ironshod staff (with bojutsu) and studded gloves for unarmed.
For armor, I have access to stuff you can loot from soldier and cop zombies. I pack the useful stuff I get from zombies into large backpacks and leave them in cleared buildings wherever I fight. I can fix a lot of it. Don't bother to carry most of it to the place I'm squatting at. I wear almost nothing when I actually fight. Just clothes, a leather vest, cut resistant gloves, a baseball helmet and scrap arm guards.
For vehicles, I only have a foldable bike. I could loot a working car probably, but my character can barely drive.
No companions.
I have 5 tailoring, 4 fabrication and quite a few books. I could make something, but I'd have to practice proficiencies for it to not take ages.
Can I get by just cleaning/fixing a ballistic or kevlar vest and wearing an army or motorcycle helmet and then just try to outrange them with an assault rifle or something? I really don't feel like spending days getting stuff from my caches and then training proficiencies to bring the crafting times down, just for 2 missions.

Besides gaining platinum coins to go to trainers and getting exp multipliers for skills in towns, Food is the most important part of how fast and efficiently you level up. There are two different types of exp gains from food
First is the flat exp, STAT gain which is raw exp that you will gain from eating
Second is the STAT POTENTIAL which is an experience multiplier, having more potency multiplies all incoming exp for that given skill which decreases every level up in that given skill.
>I don't care too much about great food right now, i just need/am struggling to not starve
Make a sickle and go around random map tiles to harvest mushrooms. When planted on your home base, it only takes one single day to grow into a mature mushroom which you can cook using any recipes you've learned, good for speed grinding initial levels in farming and gives a good amount of food. As your farming increases you will notice that crops you harvest will have a random +stat to them correlating to the seed level. You can selectively breed a given +stat that you want by harvesting a good stat of your choice, and replanting only that.
Also If you haven't saved that dog from the cave Fiana gives you, do that. Should help with your food storage.
>all of my seeds wither as i pick it up
ALL plants, trees, shrubs and whatnot wether planted by you or not will drain fertility, so remove everything that wasnt planted by you directly to be able to plant more seeds. You increase fertility (which lets you plant more stuff) by increasing the home size by talking to your maid for 10 gold bars or hiring farmers or gardeners.
It all returns to food. No matter how much you try to escape the food grind, it will grind you down in the end.
>>
>>557641197
Thanks for all the tips, I haven't been doing much at my own camps, honestly. I spend a lot more time going from town to town, doing quests at the board and using oren to stock up on food and such. I never did ask anyone to be my maid though, wasn't even aware they gave you special options, thought it was just fluff, will have to look into this more and see what else they have an offer

Unfortunately it's huge, and give -3 to perception while carried, but at least it's not something useless like a glove that irradiates you.

>5 minutes into character creation screen

I don't know how gaymers do it. Games should be like Noita, Path of Achra, etc, where you boot the shit up and you can instantly get into it, then the dev slowly drip feeds the autistic lore and mechanics.

it's like 90% older cataclysm, any guide from five years ago will work, and 10% reading recipe lists, looking at the hitchhiker's guide, and investigating overworld map spawns and doing quests
if you have any questions feel free to ask, I'll check the thread at least once per day
>>
>>557643137
how does it give you clairvoyance, is it an activated or carried or wielded effect? is it big clairvoyance or small clairvoyance?
the best clairvoyance artifact I found was a ring that when worn would give you small clairvoyance and nether attention, so you'd put it on, get looked at, look through walls to check where the thing was, and then take it off before your balls exploded or you got fungused or hounds of tindalos burst out of the corners to fuck you up
>>
>>557653432
Small clairvoyance when carried. Can't turn it off, but that's not too bad.
It also gives +4 int when wielded, as well as a "you feel a force pulling you inward", whatever that is. Shoots lightning and causes dimensional fatigue when activated.
>>
>>557653754
>you feel a force pulling you inward
that sounds like it could be either really really bad or a total nothingburger, I've never heard of that one before
is that dimensional anchoring? try to teleport yourself
>>
>>557653901
It might actually be teleportation. Got teleported randomly once, for seemingly no reason. That was a while after I tested the activation though, and I had the dimensional fuckery effect active, so that might have caused it instead.
>>
>>557654205
dimensional stress can teleport you, yes
more worryingly it can hit you with hounds of tindalos spawns or similar levels of fuck you enemies
go step on a teleport pad while carrying the thing and report back

the big one is that the good early weapons have been nerfed or changed, the meta last time I looked was cudgels but it might just be rush quarterstaff right now if you do shelter start
if you do something else you'll need to figure it out but it's probably some bashing weapon you can make at 3 fabrication
it used to be knife spear at one point

Aww yeah. I'm cyberized now. I left on bionic slots so I can't overdo it but at the same time I kinda like having to choose. I have solar panels, chain lightning, joint torsion, some infolink, a scanner for bionics, electro sense which is kinda eh. I swore I found that one that returns metal items to your hand but I dont have it. Debating installing the integrated toolset. Trying to think of some other fun ones to keep an eye out for. I would love to find bionic claws for my cyberwife.
Next order of business is to haul this 3d printer out of here. I found a nanite printer too, what's it do?
>>
>>
>>
>>557677514
On the wiki it says it can detect bionis, but I also have one specifically for detecting them so I don't know.
The one I have can tell you the exact bionic so maybe that's the difference. Once I finish sorting the loot from this lab I need to repair my car, no idea where all this damage came from but the wheels are really messed up. I'm trying to find a bigger city, so far it's been towns and junk.

Cogmind, alert is great. It's not a hard clock, the map simply gets more and more difficult to traverse. But even at high alert you can potentially benefit from it. Certain builds have access to actions that can lower it, whereas for some builds it shoots up much quicker if you're reckless. There's also some other mechanics that act as clocks too, most have a similar tradeoff where you can potentially benefit if you play it well.

>>557745031
It says what all the attributes do, but strength is most helpful for increasing encumbrance and weapon damage. Dexterity is most helpful for increasing speed. Willpower is most helpful for increasing damage and healing.
There are secondary benefits too, which will help in certain situations for certain characters. Like strength for minimum speed means you can't get slowed as much. Dexterity for dodge and block gives you flat defenses that are most useful early game. Willpower can help dispel status effects, but this one is not usually relevant because it takes too long to activate.
When in doubt, get enough strength to wear your gear and then go dexterity until you hit 50 or 100 speed. Then put the rest in willpower.

opening up a door to end up face-to-face with a pile of root runners and a leech blossom and they fill the doorway before you get a chance to respond
gigantic naked mole rat caving the ceiling in on you
piles of TALON UGVs
evolved mutant maybe (rare)
you can end up with yuggs (make sure you have environmental armor lol) and lepidopterids (big statballs) in the final rooms which can be a real motherfucker

Thought I had my first achra win incoming but apparently not today. Is it worth investing in vigor for some extra health padding? I noticed that the lategame enemies started having higher damage than my total health pool and dodge/block seem like they can only go so far.
>>
>>
>>
>>557901823
Yeah, you definitely want to invest some levels in vigor. All the defense types have 10% chance to fail, so you want your HP to be bigger than the "hit" value on the monsters in case they get a clean hit on you.
You should have divine interventions available too, but losing a random prayer kinda sucks sometimes.

Acolyte is a good choice too. You can even change the damage type of SELF-damage with Imp to apply effects to yourself. Here I'm whacking myself with every attack and applying Repulsion, Doom, and Plague with self-damage.
Tbh I know what you mean about Imp being a hard race to win with, but that's mostly the early game that is hard. Imp has great scaling vectors if you don't die to a Tethic Monk on stage 2.

Don't get me wrong, I love Achra. I just know from experience that some of the combinations of dudes and gods are way harder than others. I have no idea what Prisma is supposed to do that Formica doesn't do better, for instance.
>>
>>557943195
The prism god summons garbage minions that scale like ass. Ant god summons high quality minions that can actually kill things. If you use the prism god you're probably using them as fodder so that you can get more 'on prayer' or 'on summon' effects, not actually scaling them to be strong summons.
>>
armatures are centaur-things which have free rampage and gain regen when they rampage towards an enemy.
Volatile blastmotes is a mine/cloud that explodes when an enemy steps on it, which has knockback.
Place cloud. Step off of cloud. enemy steps onto cloud. Cloud explotes. You are knocked back and damaged by your own spell, creating a gap between you and the enemy.
Rampage towards enemy. Get hp and mana regeneration buff. Cast blastmotes again.
Repeat.
Holy shit this is retarded. I can't tell if it makes me happy.
>>
>>557943195
The prism guy is easy free infinite prayers and summons. You take it for the prayer/summon/death triggers. Anyone who's tried prayer builds at high cycle knows that feel of running out of charges against the king. The prism prayers are the easiest to recharge.

Hello!
The rumors are true. We are making Rift Wizard 3.
There are a few big new features:
Most importantly, we have added a crafting system to the game. Each level contains a few crafting ingredients, each crafting reagent contains some set of tags. Every piece of equipment in the game requires a certain number of tags (some specific, some wildcard) to create. Crafted equipment is by far the most common way to obtain equipment in RW3, and we have folded the passive skill system into the equipment system. Our goal is to make it a bit more challenging to get super powerful synergies online early, and create more situations where you can do something weird and be rewarded for it. There are many, many new pieces of craftable equipment.
Also worth noting are big changes to spell upgrades. There are 100+ new spell upgrades and spell upgrades reworked. Systems wise, RW3 allows players to get 2 upgrades to their spells instead of 1, since SP can no longer be used to buy passive skills. Basically we took the stuff Jacob was doing in the RW2 patches and ran with it.
RW3 also features quite a few new monsters. We scrapped the RW2 variant system and returned to something more like RW1: common monsters plus rare ones.
Lastly, for Rift Wizard 3, we wanted to focus on smaller levels. Where RW2 explored big battles, RW3 explores smaller skirmishes where the player can have a bigger understanding of all the actors involved, and a better intuition of the complete gamestate. Also, we wanted to make room for some bigger, more hand drawn Khoops art.
Speaking of art, it's all totally new. Same artist, new style. See for yourself at the store page:

>can actually kill things
>summons

Nyo. Formus is almost strictly better because you get a lot more summons to crunch for whatever effect you're getting from them dying or getting hit. You get a lot less bang for your buck with Ikshana, because she doesn't free spawn. You also get 30 charges of summoning manually with Formus, compared to 5(?) with Ikshana. It's true that you can recharge her by dancing, but Formus gets free charges from your dudes getting hit without any input from you, which is better because taking a (partial) turn to step will fucking kill you against most of the later bosses. In my experience later cycles rely almost exclusively on good action economy.
>>
>>557967101
I was already a bit iffy about Rift Wizard 2 since it's so similar to 1, but it did turn out to be a good game. This feels like a cashgrab though, in a genre where most games are updated for free for decades, why do we need another release of Rift Wizard with a few changes to the equipment system instead of another patch for 2? Even outside of roguelikes, games like Terraria have received massive content upgrades for free for years. It'll probably be fun because Rift Wizard is a good game, but this just seems like the dev is grubbing for money.

explosives are so hard to use but they're very very fun, especially 40mm grenades
what I end up doing is just stashing every explosive I find, and one day I'll just look, realize I have several hundred grenades, and regear myself to use them
frequently this requires regearing myself to fuck around with the slingshot cannon to train up some launchers skill lmao, but an M79 or Milkor (or if you can find it, the RM802 which is a modern china lake style pump) is a really liberating way to clear out a town of zombies
up there with using Ma Deuce on your technical
very very expensive though
>>
Something I figured out about Achra is that dual wielding is actually really good. Each weapon gets its own initial attack, and initial attack is the trigger for extra attacks from Technique, Herja, and other sources. So you get twice as many attacks if you dual wield and attack directly.

File: achrasinglehanding.png (295.8 KB)

Here's another mechanical quirk in Achra. If you have two empty weapon slots, you count as single-handing each Bare Fist, and you get an initial attack for each.
If you wear a Zasadzka Claw (counts as Bare Fist) in your main hand, you will be two-handing that weapon and get a larger STR bonus to damage. If you swap the Zasadzka Claw to your off-hand, you will go back to single-handing, and you will get an initial attack for both your Bare Fist and your Zasadzka Claw.

I think those kinesis skills usually aren't very efficient damage sources to level up. You get like 30 or 35 damage for 2 points. It's more efficient to add damage to them with stacks of charge, meditate, sickness, etc. Morbumancy is really good with Toxokinesis and Necrokinesis.
>>
>>558183471
I understand, but I'm considering whether to have Guard or Heavyweight as support at the early levels. As I progress, the enemies become more and more powerful, and I can't neglect my defense because I can't always find the items I need at the beginning. It's just an observation, I'll consider it, thank you.
>>
>>558185041
Personally I think Guard is a no-brainer. One or two levels is all you need to kill fast swarmers with counterattacks, and it doesn't have a downside.
The encumbrance penalty on Heavyweight makes it kinda bad. Of course there is the armor prestige class, and Mardok also synergizes with encumbrance. If you actually benefit from encumbrance then it is good, but most of the time I don't take it.

It was going to be a sort of roguelike, but it never saw the light of day due to continuous data corruption, and I always had to start over from scratch, improving the structure. I then transferred the same idea to something I was creating with Godot. Working and programming as a hobby don't go very well together; there are too many unfinished projects.

Playing BN for the first time in several years, anyone know what this "Cover: Damage Reduction 12, Block Change 50%" stuff is when looking at a sofa or chair or whatever? I'm assuming that if you are on that tile then you gain these defensive bonuses to simulate your character using the furniture to block attacks?
>>
>>558198890
Yeah, if you're by furniture gain cover against ranged attacks, and you can crouch to reduce line-of-sight as well, which is handy to move around inside a house without attracting attention through the windows

I enjoy it quite a lot, it's an incredibly good timesink if you enjoyed getting lost in a rabbit hole of base building > exploring > getting new stuff > expansion similar to the vein of Kenshi. It's a bit confusing since some of the more in depth mechanics are never really explained and the game just sends you off into the deep end immediately after the tutorial without guidance, but once you get your bearings it becomes very easy to see your entire weekend go by in a blink.
If you have any questions that come up, there are a few elin players that still lurk here. Otherwise there's a permanent general with lots of help links in/jp/

Damn, this is like you were in my mind, i wrote i liked Kenshi and Rimworld and pushed the backspace button, lol. Yes, i found out about the general on /jp/ a few days ago and that ignited my interest for it. Anyway, thanks for the info. Appreciate it.

On early cycles still most of my wins have been summoners, each shitty summon can almost go toe to toe with enemies and you start with over 20 of them and can summon 5+ more per turn. Oozemancy, vineform+briar mage and necromancer were all silly I don't think I took damage.

Kinda yes, kinda no. The real problem is that the mid boss and the final boss can both spawn with a ranged area attack that kills 50 summons in one turn. Some bosses can't deal with summon spam and some can, so it's down to luck.
For what it's worth, melee also has to hope they don't get the wrong boss. Horror Giant does way too much retaliation damage for a melee character to tank, and they can get kited by the Ice King too. There are ways to overcome it, but your run gets a lot harder if you spawn the wrong boss.

Electromancy can kill the final boss all on its own. Prayers turn into attune stacks and heals, and Dumuzi is just an easy god to recharge the prayers. Very, very easy game.

Bro what even is the point of defensive stats in Achra? You can have 50000 dodge, armor, and block and enemies just shred you anyway because of the stupid legalistic "hit" mechanic. Give me something I can level to protect against that bullshit. I guess the dev literally only wants you to shit out 6 billion damage every second and not engage with any of the other red herring tier mechanics.

Here, stack dex, inflexibility and fire resist items until you have 75% fire immunity (and everything else).
Take crystal form if you really want to cheese it as that doubles your inflexibility.
>>
>>558245804
I know about that combo. Also pretty sure even it can still get destroyed by certain monsters. I think it's time to admit that defensive stats are literally useless. Speed, damage, and heals are the only things that matter on higher difficulties.

File: achralonglegs.png (622.6 KB)

>>558245506
If you have 0% resist to a non-physical damage type, then your defenses apply at 25%. Also if you give an enemy 1000 inflame stacks then your defenses won't do shit. It's common for enemies to get inflame stacks on certain triggers like on summon or on step.
For instance, if you just press tab like a monkey, you will get owned by pic related. Every step gives them inflame stacks, and when you step into an adjacent square to them, they get a free attack which will probably one shot you. If you just stand still and wait for them to come to you, they are extremely weak.
>>
>>
>>558246323
Voggite definitely is one of the harder mid bosses. He's ranged, and he gets 10% of his damage guaranteed even if he doesn't break your defenses. That's usually like 300 damage per attack. Did you have a lot of defense and low sustain/low damage? Or maybe you got freeze put on you, and he was attacking you multiple times? I can't really give you more advice unless you post your character.

carrying it, seeing if it does anything
wielding it, seeing if it does anything
wearing it, seeing if it does anything
activating it, seeing if it does anything
some of them can just set you on fire so watch out for that, and the bad effects typically all have messages that let you know you're being fucked so you can stop doing that before it kills you

>if you don't have 90%+ offroad it's not good
Well it's a road roller, it's not a conventional vehicle in the first place, it's meant to be incredibly heavy and therefore slow, because it's built to flatten the ground for laying roads. It should be able to move over unpaved terrain, but it should be very slow at it

eh, i think for me the most important thing to learn was how to break zombies tracking. they move to where they last saw you, and then point to where you are and start wandering, so you need to basically make 3 whole turns when fleeing. going around 4 buildings/a block being an example. otherwise zombies will seem to "magically" find you. if you only "break line of sight" they still get pathed towards you.
but i havent played it in like 5 years so maybe its changed

So inital attack in Achra is basically just 2 activations a turn if you dual wield with 0 way to increase it? Seems pretty garbage considering how much happens in 1 turn, especially considering that the inital attack effects aren't nuclear warhead tier either.
>>
>>
>>558519497
I would prefer if it was literally your first swing against x enemy and then all other attacks don't count towards it. You could synergize with attacking hordes with 2 hand weapons if it was like that. It's really boring as it is. And once again, what even is a good inital attack effect? The one prestige that lets you recite a random prayer? That's cute and all, but it's still way too slow and unpredictable for 2 rolls every 5 minutes.

>I would prefer if it was literally your first swing against x enemy and then all other attacks don't count towards it

I'm like 90% sure they all just give out extra attacks, which makes sense otherwise they'd loop infinitely. That's the only real difference.

Curious how many days your CDDA run lasts.
I'm finding that there are too many meta progressions, that I'm high tier by the end of day one, and after that am just in an boring and confusing grind for stats as enemies level far faster than I can.

Items give too much of a power spike early, but then monsters evolve far faster then the player can level.
Part of that is new items added tending to be best of class, and focus and proficiency dramatically slowing levelling.

With AC from armor skill it's like a +5/6 ringmail of willpower I think. It's okay for a lot of characters for large portions of the game but I always hope for better artifacts. It just never does enough for the investment. Maybe you can justify 1-2 levels. Sometimes it's nice to jump start your Charge stacks or do enough burst damage to kill ranged enemies, but it's easy to invest in it too much. Levels in Electromancy or Herja will usually scale better into late game.
>>
>>
>>
>>558600995
Inital as an adjective: of, realating to, or occuring at the beginning: first
Attack as a verb: to set upon in a forceful, violent, hostile, or aggressive way, with or without a weapon; begin fighting with
So my first initiation of combat of the turn, right? Nope. It should say the first time you physically bump into an enemy. Actually that still wouldn't be enough because of retaliation extra attacks. It needs to say something on you physically initiating combat via the tab or numpad keys aka on numpad/ tab press.
>>
>>
>>558603995
Oh it's just definition autism. There's only 4 actions you can take in the game: step, stand still, use a prayer, or attack. The last one is what counts as initial attack. If you have an issue with the naming, then sure, but as a mechanic that's what it is.

>I'm guessing early game you just kite shit that is slower than you? Trading blows seems to be a bad idea given how slowly you heal
Pretty much
Don't use weapons with less than 0 tohit, and ideally use weapons with AT LEAST +1 or else you'll miss constantly, bayonets are exceptions
Pull enemies onto terrain that has more than 100 movecost like bushes or furniture, you can get free hits as they're stuck recovering the moves they spent getting onto it
If you get grabbed, hit " and switch to run to boost odds of escaping, but don't sprint for more than very short bursts or you WILL burn out more stamina than you can afford to and get the living shit beaten out of you, lack of stamina is the #1 way you'll end up dying as a new player. Waiting (with num5) is another option since it adds an extra chance to break a grab
Tear up cotton stuff and get a jug of bleach from under kitchen sinks to make bleached bandages, they're good
NOT fighting is better than fighting, stealth is king, get a pair of binoculars, a rifle scope, etc and climb up as high as you can (radio towers are best) to find looting locations, then come back at night when the moon is bright and the weather is Clear. Most enemies in towns have awful view distance in the dark on account of being rotting corpses. This changes later on -- predators and nightstalkers will fuck you up. In modern DDA, dogs are just about the only thing that uses scent to find you so don't worry about that. You can use sound (car horns are super loud, hit e near driver seats) to pull all the zombies in your reality bubble away from a building you want to loot
If you can find a working car or bicycle, you've basically won the "survival" portion of the game, it's just a matter of patience at that point.
PS: drop (METAL!) containers full of water on a tile with fire to passively turn it into purified water instead of crafting it, braziers are best because you can set them up wherever but fireplaces and ovens also work
>>
>>
>>558626565
I think they removed the flag from all basic unevolved zombies (standard, fat, tough, etc) a few years ago because "humans can't do that". If you sleep in an infested town with the curtains drawn you will 100% without fail eventually get a zombie dog smashing in a window after a day or two to get at you if there's any loaded into the reality bubble though. It's more of a slow burn thing now to make you leave town if you want to sleep.
Don't worry, woodland wights and pretty much all the other zombie animals still have it, your RV is still as unsafe as ever if you pull off on the shoulder of the road to nap through the night.

not to defend Spedvin's retardation but I never found scent that daunting anyway, by the time you are close enough for something to sniff you out you are within hearing range and probably about to fight it anyway
>>
Got shafted by 3 floors.
Went upstairs, onto a floor I had never entered before.
Bees immediately moved to surround me.
Went downstairs on my first available move, and died by the end of that turn, on the floor bellow.
When you enter a new floor, you're supposed to have 1 free turn in which enemies do not move, in order to minimize the inherent unfairness of situations like this. It seems that mechanic does not trigger when you go upstairs, or perhaps floors are "activated" when you are shafted through them. That difference matters for "delver" characters, who may or may not also suffer from this issue.
But, as it stands, this is basically a forced death, unless you would suggest simply clearing floors 3 levels out of depth.

Remember he only cares about realism when it's to make the game worse. Bows got nerfed into the ground after someone uploaded a video of themselves larping as Legolas on a unicycle shooting down hordes of zombies and this really got his ass chafed for some reason.

This, and it was also a thing when you were stealth-looting houses in a city, which I used to do. I would do a mega-city map and spawn inside a house, and slip from house to house at night.
You couldn't stay too long in any one house, because your scent would build up and sooner or later a zombie would wander close enough to catch wind of you, and start banging on stuff, attracting more.
It was never a big or short-term threat, but it was enough to keep you moving, so it's weird that DDA would nerf it like that.

I think going a little bit further early on seems to level out some of the rng against the crazy fast mobs. Maybe it makes you a bit weaker later but not really noticably. Maybe 5 is too much I don't know but it won so it can't be awful.

I don't like using the last one because you can only get stacks back by walking adjacent to enemies which is risky, but also can be hard to do sometimes so it can take a while to get back up to full so you have one less divine intervention to hold onto. Also I don't really know what I'm doing still.

I think it's just different experiences. Tactically, MiBe is more complex. As much as people like to meme about it, you're not literally only doing the same action every fight. However strategically, Achra is more complex imo. Creating a good build at high cycles requires you to rub two brain cells together, with MiBe you'll basically set up your skills at the start and then maybe adjust them once or twice depending on what you find.

Are dodge builds the most powerful in cdda?
As enemies scale up the ability to dodge attacks seems to be more important then armour or blocking, many higher level enemies seem to have scripted attacks which can't be blocked.
>>
>>
>>558751234
I don't think there's really builds per se but encumbering armor is definitely extremely shitty in my experience, the knight larp is cool but it never feels worth it
Can't hold as much loot without hurting your stamina, dehydrates you in summer, slows you down, fucks up your ability to climb, takes a very long time to get the stuff with good resists
I just wear hub arms and legs (or broken down riot armor pieces) over cargo pants with a tactical vest to hold mags plus whatever helmet I can get my hands on
Neoprene arm guards, knee pads, elbow pads, kevlar throat guard are always essential

Crushed against walls is broken.
It should be relative to how many walls you're adjacent to, and use the same mechanics as grab. Just to penalise players who box themselves into one tile gaps.
It causes a stupid stat cascade which can 1tk a player, even if it's a regular zombie and one tile of wall.

Probably the stupidest PoA build i have done.
Upon entering, i pray once, which deals damage equal to 75% of my max hp (Aslan), giving me a couple thousand stacks of horrorform.
This is immediately converted in to drake form (Azhdaha), which spikes my block and armor in to the tens of thousands.
The problem is drake form sucks, so to deal damage i summon a bunch of trash to be killed, which triggers the Valr racial gimmick, dealing 20% of my block as death damage to a random target, killing everything.
Of course if i take a single point of damage, i lose drake form. This is quite unlikely as i have a bunch of trash minions surrounding me and attacks need to pass two 1/10 rolls to beat my block and armor, but it has happened.
Let me know if you have found any other good drake form builds as this feels way too stupid.

Good to know, anon. BN was my default fork, but played almost exclusively lab challenges.
I'm liking TLG too, despite all the fun (tm) and realism autism. Feels much less bloated than DDA and more like an actual game instead of a sandbox/sim. Give all your character a 0 point Fast Learner equivalent and the grindfest becomes suddenly becomes much more bearable.

This works a lot better if you go equal points in Aurora Chant and Life Chant to help clear the floor. I also found I didn't need the Zealot prayers because you get prayer 2 maxed on Glory anyway and going all in with Apostle gets you through the early game easier.

Trying to make the Humbaba prayer deal damage. I got 17 weapon size and 2200 bloodrage stacks on myself which both multiply the damage of the prayer, but I still couldn't deal enough damage to nuke the king in 5 prayers. Just didn't have enough gas to make it happen. Maybe I put too much into defense, but I needed to pump strength to get my death resist up.

While potentially true, Anemocentaurs don't really support that narrative.
>but that sounds like Sea anemone
No, fool
>https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anemoi
The race description says they "trace their ancestry to the four winds themselves"
These are centaurs with an elemental wind infusion. Complaining about this is like complaining about a goblin with a shadow infusion.
The real issue here is that nobody knows what the fuck "Anemoi" means, so this is pretentious bullshit aimed specifically at taking away high movespeed.
>>
>>558834342
I don't care if they have an etymology for why they called them that. I just think it sounds stupid, and a lot of the dev's new ideas sound stupid. Sure, it's purely based on my own perception, but that's what I honestly think. It's not cool. Neither are the dumb wacky forms they gave us for talismans, or the zany uniques. I don't like their sense of humor.
>>
>>558836841
It's not a counter to your taste in names, it's a counter to the claim made.
The topic was "anemocentaurs". You responded to this prompt with a complaint about rainbow-colored amoeba men. That complaint is unsubstantiated, at least given the topic. If I stretch, I could say you mistook "Anem" as meaning "anemone" because that's close to a rainbow-colored amoeba, visually.
If the complaint is that it sounds dumb, it DOES sound dumb. It's poor communication. We don't even have to be all "it's subjective" about that, because it's just obvious.
However, the idea put forward was that normal, safe, conservative ideas such as goblins were being ignored in favor of I'm-so-special snowflake garbage, which is less true given in the way you phrased it.

Arborus is infinite summons and that can be useful. There's a reason the wisps got capped. Something like executioner is way worse, your bonuses are mostly flat and the only one that's not triggers specifically on killing an enemy. There's a few others I didn't really like. Anqarak, Doomsayer, Blood-drinker, probably some more. tbf these were all done a while ago so I could be misremembering, but I would take Arborus over any of those, yeah. A bunch of the special ones are pretty shit too, like Suwag or Gallus.

The trouble is that you don't get any buffs until after your minions start dying or you start killing, and you have to be close up for that.
I can get it to work if I dip into other branches of power but pure death just seems like a massive pain.

I decided to do it with only Death Powers for the Path of Death achievement which I apparently didn't already have. It's just a pure summoner build and I didn't even get great weapons. You can improve it with stuff like Projection from Astral and Plague Chant from Poison and grab other summons but it's not necessary, it scales well with just dumping Cursed Flesh. Dumuzi lets you dump 9 prayers per floor without losing resources and there's synergy with Master Doom giving armor which improves the damage of Prayer 3 which might be worth putting more points into.

It doesn't need to cleave with exult, he kills one mob and it nukes the rest in an aoe then next turn you fill the gap again with a prayer and another assload of skellingtons. I had over half my Dumuzi prayers left this time so I think it would have been fine even against the fire one. It's not like the game takes that long you can try it out yourself!
