Haven't updated my Luma3DS in years. Figured all I need to do is unzip the latest update into my SD card. Booted up fine and all my games are there but when I try opening one I get an exception error that tells me to turn off the 3DS. I did set the game patching to ON in the Luma config before boot. Also it was able to let me go into the latest FBI and install NTR_Launcher and Twilight Menu. Tried loading a DS game in Twilight menu and I get a FAT init error.

Anything I forgot to do or is it likely my SD card is borked or needs reformatting?

It's been a while since I last hacked a switch so forgive me if I'm using wrong or outdated terms. It's my understanding that "sysnand" is the normal switch environment ans "emunand" is the hacked, cloned version that lives on the SD card. The switch has not yet been hacked and has 3.0.1 firmware.
My issue is that I must update to install any launchable game, and according to the guide, a launchable game is desired for title takeover. Is it possible to set up title takeover in the hacked partition if I never had a launchable title in the first place? If so that would be a simple solution.

Yes that's my plan B. I already ordered some chink VR goggles with decent reviews so if I can't get the official app to work I can fall off that, higher pitched voice samples be damned. play dragon quest builders 2 if you haven't, the same devs made the pokopia game iirc (and from the looks of it it's very similar to the builders game). Unless you want to play pokopia specifically cause of the pokémon theming, then idk you should still try builders 2
builders 1 is also an option if you're switch only, if you have a pc though play it there as that game has been rereleased and updated ike 6 times and every rerelease added lots of shit, with the steam version being the latest. Though the switch version is good too, as that one already removed the retarded timers present in the playstation version

the issue is not connecting itself, but connecting with logs tainted by hax stuff. Backing up saves is fine and shouldn't produce anything of the sort. You could erase all wifi connections to be extra sure you don't connect while on CFW, but this really doesn't do much if you fuck something up and then connect later on without CFW.
I mean obviously don't connect while on CFW, but airplane mode is fine just for something quick. Don't use docked mode as it may turn off airplane mode automatically.
