There's no objective definition for what a Starfield 2.0 would even be, people just want it to "be better". For POI improvements, would it mean implementing a whole new procgen layout system or just unfucking the algorithm so you don't get 5 cryolabs in a row? For space, would it mean obfuscating the load screens and adding a handful of space POIs or using unholy code wizardry to add NMS style flight?

listen here bud, bethesda's game engine has been updated in line with what the rest of the industry uses. CE2 looks worse than most top of the line games and a lot better than something like avowed.
The netimmerse fork morrowind started with didn't have physics like oblivion/FO3 did. Nor did it have the NPC scheduling system that got marketed as radiant AI.
The point is that the game engine has been updated over the years just fine. It allows Bethesda to ship a game editor that lets you add content very easily to the game, a plugin system that allows you to load things readily into the game and other stuff which is generally relegated to more niche genres rather than AAA RPG games.
Throwing that away so you get better mocapped animations and badly implemented nanite would be a bad thing.

Density, and its not just the loading screens. There's more menu fiddling, transitional animations, and loading packed into a single travel sequence than the other games (for the most part, looking at you Vivec), and the gameplay loop encourages frequent travel so people ram into those interruptions constantly.
Same problem as the elevators in Mass Effect. That also had loading screens for space travel, but people only complained about the elevators because there were fuckloads of them packed into the bigger areas.

That star wars game requires like 20s landing sequences which lets you travel from one end of the map in Starfield to the next.

Starfield is already a space opera which is why its ridiculously easy to reskin into a Star Wars game, the only hard sci-fi aspects are the nasapunk aesthetic and lack of sapient aliens. I don't believe going all the way by gluing tron lights to the tech or turning Sarah purple would have helped much. People don't dislike Starfield's setting just because its grounded, but because its painfully dull in ways that would drag down a more fantastical setting just as much if not more.

It's not some grand space opera like Mass Effect, nor does it come close to the Minecraft tier sandbox experience that games like No Man's Sky offers, it's just a hybrid jack of all trades, master of none space adventure for people who want the freedom of choosing and making their own adventures, but still has some form of narrative that they're not totally railroaded into and are free to engage and disengage from at any time. In a sense, it's Elder Scrolls/Fallout in space.

NASApunk just means old ass real world tech and machines being repurposed for living in space, a similar concept to Steampunk. Starfield is basically a game that's designed to incorporate mid 20th century space age tech rather than the advanced alien tech with holographic projectors people are used to seeing now. I just made a batch script to give myself all the artefacts and start the last mission to enable building armillary and went to unity immediately after visiting the lodge to check out alternate starts. One of those ended up kinda funny I think:

Starfield's universe is a highly gay world where the United Colonies is almost kinda intending to be an authoritarian dystopia, and the Freestar Collect are almost a bunch of anarchic rabble. However both of them ultimately chose to stop killing eachother, lock up anyone that had the balls to actually achieve victory, and build a brighter more peaceful future. It's boring as shit and frankly it's a shame a second Serpent's Crusade is effectively impossible.

After playing Starfield I was reminded of the emotional power games can make you feel. I was so enthralled with the universe built and felt a sense of exploration and curiosity I haven't felt in years.
It inspired me. I put my 7 year marketing career on hold and went back to school for game design. I'll be graduating in April and have started my own company to build games that I hope inspire folks like Starfield did me.
While this is only the first pass (my skin is stubborn, so I've got to do my tattoos in chunks), i'm so happy to have the start of it, as it's dedicated to my second fave game of all time, and one that has changed my life.
