>>557687468 (regarding the amount of loot in Stalker 2)
To be fair, you go through loot, especially bandages and medkits, really fast in this game. With the way the combat is balanced, I'd rather have an abundance of shit.
That said, Master mode supposedly hass less loot, and there are mods that make it less abundant as well.

the zone traders shouldn't accept anything but artifacts and mutant parts
there's no scarcity, they import everything from the outside world specifically to sell it to you, they don't want more of the shit they already have
the resources you find in the wild are there to help you save money, not make it
it's also much easier to balance the game's economy when artifacts and quests are your only source of income
but no, virtually every mod forces you to either haul the entire armory's worth of guns to sell it for the price of two antirads or intentionally gimp yourself

I know you can give Rookies new guns, they'll pick them up but once they run out of ammo they switch back to their pistol. Unless you give them a gun that has the same ammo in their inventory, your limited in what you can give them.
So yeah, can you give ammo to NPCs in the original Stalker games, without mods? They always refuse to pick up the ammo, but will always pick up other guns.

I have only ever done this once or twice and got by just fine from selling artifacts I didn't have a need for and just assessing the price/weight ratio of whatever I come across in game. Granted I haven't played meme mods like GAMMA on giganigger difficulty or OP2.2.

That just means you aren't playing S2. You need as much cash as possible, unless you're doing an SOC run by not upgrading or repairing anything and just using generic looted or bought weapons as disposable tools.
Also, undocumented trader discrepancies: Ragman and the dude in the burnt forest give you shittier prices in general than other traders, but will actually buy gear that's in the red for durability as long as the durability is above 0%. Lots of bonus cash to be had if you're willing to spend the time transporting all that scrap.
>>
What the hell is up with weapon durability in anomaly?
I tried out some 7.62x51 rifles, since their AP ammo says it shreds level IV armour with high tissue dmg.
A fully upgraded fn fal and an scar H drop to 97% durability from TWO mags. 2.
>>
>>
>>557763536
Even INFAMOUSLY 'jesus fuck this thing is still working fine?' irl rifles like the G3... die so fucking quick.
These guns can take THOUSANDS of rounds before they're dirty enough that they COULD do with a good clean...
I am always going back to the ak12, because then at least I can carry repair bits too, since its ammo is so much lighter.
>>
>>557753956
Cheat yourself a gorillion money, buy up AKs, upgrade them.and equipment their accessories to the nines... and then give them.to the guys running around with shit guns and make sure you give them a single stack of ak food.
Now they are infinitely more dangerous.

Boo hoo.
I learnt to shoot on bolt guns and the f88 austeyr.
Which thanks to bureaucratic fuckery
>let's buy a modular rifle with quick change barrels for the ADF
>but let's not ever buy a giant pile of spare barrels, that would be silly
...meant that buy the time I got to learn on one, the entire ADF was using barrels so worn down smoothbore from hundreds of thousands of rounds, that the government had finally decided to 'do something' about the problem...
They ended up buying some wierd chemical sludge stuff that armourers apparently pour into the barrels and then use some tool to gouge the rifling into.
All's I know is that apparently the barrels were all fucked and had been bodgy jobbed 'fixed'.
So go forth and fuck your own ass. I am a /hadguns/.
For years teenager me was trusted by the government to shoot boltguns and select fire rifles chambered in intermediate cartridges.
But my nation is horrifically disarmed.

I don't want to sound like a broken record, but I can't get over how good SoC is. Finally reached the lab, took the advice from the anon last thread, and it's just amazing to me how well this game has aged.does Stalker 2 live up to a decent amount of what this first game is or will it leave me sort of lamenting that it isnt as good?
>>
>>557777052
That's because it was stuck in dev hell for eons, clear sky and cop don't reach such heights despite polishing many aspects of the first game, they didn't have enough time to recreate the greatness of SoC, the ending is etched in my brain forever.
>>
>>557777052
>I don't want to sound like a broken record, but I can't get over how good SoC is
SoC deserves all the glaze it gets, it can be rough sometimes, but many things just work so well at delivering unforgetable experience. I managed to convince some friends throughout the years to play it and they always end up loving it as well.
>spoiler
Ehh, it really will be up for you to decide. Speaking on my behalf,I found some fun in it and some aspects are well done, but goddamn they really dropped the ball with some core elements like the goddamn story and narrative.
>>
>>557778198
>>557777453
I just can't get over it. Every new area is just super interesting and, like I said last thread, this is the most immersed I've been in a game since I was a teenager which is wild considering its age. It just leaves you with genuine stories of how things play out, and it's wildly fun to boot.
I suppose the world, random spooky events, gunplay, and the immersive aspects are the most important to me. How'd you feel about those?

Stalker 2, gameplay wise, is almost a perfect continuation of COP's gameplay. Took no notes from anomaly or misery, it's basically COP with the gunslinger animation overhaul. The only issue right now is a-life, but I still have fun.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>557786105
Gotcha. Been taking note for a couple days and it seems like a lot of people here had a decent enough time with 2, which usually modern day sequels don't go over too well when it comes to older games like this. I'll finish the og trilogy and if I'm still wanting more, I'll go immediately to 2. Still, getting pretty lost in the SoC experience and taking my time with it so who knows how long that'll be.
also, might wait on Sparking Zero as those bamco anime fighters eventually drop to pennies even though the discount now is pretty steep. I found Stalker 2 for around 33 bucks which sounds like that would be worth it for a price of entry.

Helos were always supposed to aggro on you, especially if you shoot them. You probably also walked right into one of their scripted attack spots.
Next you'll be surprised to realize that active, functional BTRs will eventually spawn and shoot at you.I had played over 600 hours of SOC before learning this was a thing, and I've been through that sequence so many times.

I do wonder if they were just bugged in a version, because I had never seen them outside of mods until a couple years ago. Likewise, I had never seen tushkano or active hanging moss anomalies in vanilla SOC until the steam version changed from the 1.0005 I had hundreds of hours on to 1.0006.

Lost alpha is the only one I know of that restores its intended purpose of being where you meet Doc, but even that misses out on the intended bandit vs merc turf war. It's an interesting map in general, detailed enough that it's on par with release SOCThen again, so was Darkscape, but the point is it was developed much further and later than other cut maps like Generators, but mods don't ever really implement it well. You can explore a lot of buildings, but besides looking at things you won't get a thing out of it. The only time I've ever seen any loot or hidden items placed in the map was in analmeme, and of course it's inside the room behind Doucheman that you can't open in that mod because there's no key for it.
>>
How much work would be required to get True Stalker run on anomaly engine/AOEEngine? The game runs well other than traversal stutters, but they're really quite bad. GAMMA runs more consistently for me, with zero noticeable stutters. Ap-pro says the engine is open xray but I doubt it has half the changes and optimisations that anomaly/modded exes have

That's not my point at all. If you had played the mod, you'd know what I mean.
I will say this: True Stalker looks fucking great. The atmosphere is fantastic and the visuals are very well done. I don't mean just the graphics, the mod has some really cool set pieces. Like that room in the Rookie Village with all the old pictures hanging on the wall.
And that's it. The mod sports no A-life to speak of, which would not be as much of a gripe if the mod didn't have you running from point A to point B, back and forth across entire maps, all the goddamn time. Not to mention that mutants respawn like crazy so killing them changes nothing.
The Old Guard quest is an epitome of everything wrong with True Stalker. I got so mad once I finished that quest. In my opinion, True Stalker fancies itself as a sort of modernized version of STALKER. The UI alone is testament to this fact. It's like "what if STALKER was a Playstation exclusive".
And Old Guard feels like it's just here to show off how the devs pulled off cool cutscenes in X-Ray. The whole quest just consist of:
>click through badly written dialog
>get teleported to another location
>watch a shitty cutscene that goes on for too long like it's fucking Blood Omen 2
>repeat
And then it's done. It's over. Fuck's sake, that quest sucks. I will say that I hear an update is coming out. Maybe they'll fix some of these problems? Maybe they already have? I don't know, since I dropped that damn mod when it tried to make me walk halfway across the entire map for the umpteenth time.

it's not perfect, i also hate the running back and forth across the map bullshit and wish there was a fast travel. the "knocks you out" trope is incredibly overused. however, the russian dialogue is pretty well written but i suspect that the translations don't do it justice. i'm not super far into it (just about to go to dark valley), but i think you're being too harsh
>>
>>557958326
Yes. The upper left exit of Army Warehouses where the mercs hang out was supposed to be the level changer for it. Is that CS's map? I remember SOC's having both Dead City and Darkscape displayed in focus just like the levels that were left in the game.

It was a level designed literally for a car chase like the HL2 buggy missions and it was completely scrapped because of lack of development, bugs and I guess lore too. Modders keep bringing it back in their modpacks for unknown reasons and it's always a slog of an empty, boring area with nothing to do and badly scaled assets.

I guess we are pretty far removed from the old gsc forum days and the guys making videos exploring cut content. Darkscape is what you progress through after leaving X-18, fighting the military in the factory (including actually-visible helicopters that go to the bandit base - the military attacking the base does still happen in vanilla - and BTRs - this is what the RPG on the top floor is meant for) and heading south through the gate.
You would drive through it while being chased by a helicopter. Since you could shoot while driving, you could blow up barrels and kill a lot of the hostile soldiers set up along the roadway. You could switch to other vehicles when yours got too damaged. I don't know the intent of the farmhouse or gas station beyond decoration, as it's not like you'd be given much chance to explore them. The south exit of the map is the tunnel you enter the Cordon in at this place. They cut it because they couldn't get the vehicle mechanics working right, which is weird considering vehicles work perfectly fine if you add them back into the game. More likely it was the scripting surrounding the helicopter that was the issue.
Modders tend to restore the map without adequately trying to add content to it. Lost Alpha brings it back, but it's shitty and stops the chase at the bridge to force you into entering a cave they added to talk to their fanfiction version of the Sin faction.
They also had a couple other driving levels that were cut much earlier on. No special scripting or chase, just traversal areas. One was for traveling from Military Warehouses to Radar (at the time it still had a vehicle graveyard instead of the empty forest) and I think one from Pripyat to CNPP or something. Lost Alpha restores both of them, but they are a bit different from the original early plan.

I believe either Shadows Addon or RMA restore that car chase sequence, can't remember if there was a heli or not though.
>They cut it because they couldn't get the vehicle mechanics working right, which is weird considering vehicles work
Vehicles "work" except they get crazy around anomalies but IMO I'm glad they were cut from the final version of the game and seemingly not reconsidered in the subsequent ones. Big part of stalker's atmosphere to me is being a bit of a walking simulator, hopping in your ride and just cruising from point A to B seems pretty antithetical to the cautious approach that you see immediately established even in the 1979 movie and Roadside Picnic - don't pay attention to your surroundings and the Zone kick you (or your scientist buddy) out. It's also tough to see them implemented alongside mutants. Getting chased by a billion dogs in OLR 2.5 on foot gives you that "oh fuck" factor but becomes silly once you find a car.
>inb4 GAMMAfag
MisernomaGAMMA goes overkill and people who jerk either of these mods off are fags.
>>
>>557967406
Same. I quite enjoy buildo aesthetics and much of the cut content reintroduced in some mods and such, but the one thing which I detest in stalker are vehicles. They're only good for the 'haha ivan look driving lada in zone while drinking vodka' maymays. They absolutely destroy the bond between the gameplay and the atmosphere.

For some reason in every warfare run, even if I buy a billion squads and a helicopter for the bookstor3 merc base in private outskirts, the game glitches and monolith faggots spawn inside the base to rape everything in exosuits. They keep killing the guys you repair shit at or buy shit from there.
>beard in the skadovsk keeps charging outside to murder monolith faggots alongside my ecologist chads though
>Yes, the ecologists decided to just hang around skadovsk until all the free stalkers left so they 'took it over' by default

Alright faggots, what are some recent SoC mods that are worth playing (can be untranslated and in Russian too, I don't give a shit). I haven't touched the threads and games in like 8 years.
>>
>>
>>
>>558080621
check the trilogy mods rentry in the OP for a more comprehensive list of SoC mods, but somebody here made one recently called STALKER Defiance
it's a winter story mod and i personally liked it. maybe you will too
>>
>>558082913
Thanks, anon. Since it's winter-themed, does it also make the extra effort to change map geometry to have actual snow in the maps? I remember playing some winter mods back in the day but they just retextured everything so you felt like there was just a 1-milimeter-thin layer of snow everywhere and it stood out like a sore thumb.
>>
any tips on approaching the Military Base? The Duty members I'm helping before I can actually complete the quest even though it's not a particularly hard assault. Dunno if I need to be killing them faster or if I'm unprepared? I usually try and bunker down and pick off the exoskeleton enemies, but by the time I down them I've failed the quest even though I can go back to no. 2 for a reward.
>>
>>558083704
it's a retexture but imo there's enough effort put into it with the map lighting and such that the snow fits pretty well. if you play it though, make sure you're on dynamic lighting in the settings otherwise the snow looks terrible

Alright, fags. Some anon, many threads ago, claimed that Misery 1.2 for CoP is actually enjoyable. The latest version of Misery is 2.2, so 1.2 is pretty outdated, but this anon claimed that the old versions of Misery have some value to them and apparently don't suffer from as severe memery as newer versions and their forks.
I've often wondered if he's actually correct, and since I'm in the mood to suffer right now, I've decided to fuck around and find out. I'm running 1.2. I picked the recon class. Everything is brown and the quality settings aren't at max since I'm playing on a potato. Wish me luck.

>stalker 2 still doesn't have full alife and is still a downgrade from the og trilogy
>still plagued with unreal performance issues
>still plagued with lumen and nanite shit fuck lighting that looks retarded, shimmery, blurry, ghosty, and artifacty whenever you walk in and out of buildings or are around a lot of foliage
>the planned multiplayer is literally never coming
>not to mention all the story issues and lack of sidequest content in the later zones
This game could have been massive layup for GSC, and they fucked it. Imagine a world where Stalker 2 is done on their own engine, where they don't retcon major parts of the story, where they put more time into side quests instead dumping their entire budget on unreal lighting, where the game looks better in every weather and every area than GAMMA of all things, where we get a multiplayer that is a casual extraction game like Arc Raiders but first person and horror with faction related missions/quests/dailies. Would have been so fucking kino. Instead we get something that barely lives up to the originals and doesn't expand on the 15 years of modding at all.
Between stalker 2 and dragon's dogma 2 I feel like we got the shit timeline.

I'm barely at Skadovsk and an emission already hit. It's funny, I always thought that the emissions in Anomaly were cool and now I find out that they're pretty much ripped straight from Misery.
I went out after the emission and got randomly shot by a bandit. One shot from his sawn-off at a distance took like 1/3 of my health. I managed to kill him and looted him for a single piece of bread + his sawn-off. Then I got aimbotted by a snork and died. I modded the aimbotting out and now I'm heading for the pumping station.
I haven't played CoP in years. Did the bandits always randomly attack you?

The brown isn't as bad as everyone says. You can tell the dev was aiming for a look, not just "desaturate everything". That said, it's still very brown and obviously not to everyone's liking.
The economy isn't as harsh I expected. Items aren't ridiculously expensive, it's just that you don't make a lot of money in this mod. NPCs drop jack shit on death. I've found some loot in Zaton but not much. For some reason, you can't pick up items while crouched.

Just limped to Skadovsk with a broken gun. Radiation is a bitch in this mod cause it doesn't lower at all. If you get irradiated, you have to use antirads or else you'll just slowly lose health until you die.
The main challenge in Misery is the lack of resources. Owl doesn't even sell 5.45x39mm ammo. I'm learning to play very carefully. I spotted two dogs coming down the road opposite me and I maneuvered around them, when in vanilla you'd just gun them down. You can't really spend ammo unless it's absolutely necessary.
Even though the brown isn't as bad as the memes say, it is a little tiring. Which is the point, I guess. I have a version of AtmosFear that is compatible with this version of Misery. I might install it over the mod. Also, interiors are insanely dark at all times of the day.
That's enough Misery for today.
>>
>>
>>558096141
I was the anon that suggested Misery 1, kek. 14 years ago it was okay and fun and it let you go wild with the spawner if you get tired of the mod.
>For some reason, you can't pick up items while crouched.
Back then looting everything, putting it in a corpse then dragging it to sell was a huge meme. They disabled it because of that.
>>
>>
>>558101745
I never really understood the appeal of game modes that punish you for every decision you make. I don't find that fun when the game feels like a chore. I don't necessarily want things to be easy. I enjoy challenges. But constant inventory managing and hunting for things that after 10 hours of grinding just to purchase or repair something feels like a job I'd never want to work at.
Not a criticism of you personally, more of a critique of what I see a lot of the mods doing.
To each their own though.

You could've gotten a Bulldog 6 in the Bloodsucker Village in the basement of one of the houses. Once you give it to the Duty leader, you can buy really good gear from their vendor.

Vanilla with the Modifier installed as one anon said it had a patch that fixes some stuff? I don't even know if that's applied though as i just dropped the modifier in and called it a day.
I knew about that other one, but apparently if you don't talk to chef it won't spawn... Sadly, by the time I got to chef he was bleeding out and due to his enemy status I couldn't give him a medkit so I think I'm down to just the one bulldog which is why I'm not sure if trading it is worth it.

Started playing The Long Road today in the morning. Am I correct in believing that I should just run around searching for artifacts while ignoring the questlines for much of the early stages of the mod? I have a bunch of quests like the Zaporozhets or the one about tracking some guy in a bloodsucker lair, but all I have is a PM and like 20 bullets for it. I've talked to everyone on Skadovsk, so I assume that I already have all the 'beginner' quests on my PDA. And I have to get 10k for a Bear, which will allow me to dump my arts to Beard. Is there a way I'm not seeing, or is grinding for artifacts for the first two in-game weeks the actual strategy for playing the mod?

I think I'm on the last mission of SoC. (Or at least, I'm on the one after you have to shut off the second set of antennas)
>had to fight my way through various patrols and snipers to get to the bunker
>use almost all my ammo for the trip
>once I get there, there are a couple Bloodsuckers
>carefully use almost the rest of my ammo to take them out
>shut the machine off
>after cutscene more enemies enter bunker to hunt me down
>have to use pistol to kill one
>grab his gun and some ammo
>have to get perfect headshots for a bit
>trading guns left and right just to fight my way out
>finally, kill a guy with a solid scoped gun
>start having an easier time fighting my way out
>upon leaving Freedom and Duty are having a little war
>take off running as bullets go flying past my screen
>eventually finally make it back to the bar and just chill a bit to the quiet ambiance and music
What a wild game. Definitely deserves all the love and praise it gets.

>>558172936
I don't know about S2, but you should play the originals. They'll be in your steam library after you buy the remasters, or you can just download the repacks linked in the post. Start from SoC, you can skip CS if you want as it's quite buggy and has meh gameplay. Maybe revisit it later. SoC is best played with ZRP and CoP can be enjoyed vanilla, it's very stable.
>>
>>
>>
>>558174546
They have a few bugs that wouldn't be there with ZRP, and they have most of the Soviet themed historical stuff like monuments removed for no reason whatsoever. I'd just play the originals if I were you. If graphics bother you that much, there are mods that can change that, e.g. Memories of the Zone for SoC.
>>
>>558091914
It pisses me off so much that DD2 got minimal patching after launch because of MHW. All DD2 needed was similar support like S2 had, it was more polished overall than S2's release imo. But DD2 was abandoned instead. Fuck you Capcom.
>>
>>558173820
>Can the crouch thing be re-enabled in system.ltx?
Never tried it, but you could grab a clean vanilla actor and system ltx and compare which lines are missing and re add them. Or enable crouch toggle but I'm not sure if it's an option in the OG games.
Also if you have an nvidia gpu you can force msaa and their ssao which allegedly looks and runs better than any other solution for the vanilla CoP engine. And for the interiors being too dark, try rising r2_sun_lumscale_amb value.

My finances in Misery are officially in minus lol. Owl demands 2000RU to tell you where the gas tank is. You can give him the money even though you don't have enough and the mod just adds however much was needed as a minus. Not sure if this is a glitch or a feature.

I gotta say, Misery 1.2 is growing on me. I just found a bunch of good shit loot at the bridge, weaponry and meds. I also found a 100% condition AK in a stash elsewhere. There's a bunch of good loot to be found if you search for it. Facing a little bit of memery right now with the gas tank, an important quest item, weighing 10kg, but so far this is the only memery I've encountered. Can't remember if the tank weighed this much in vanilla.
I'm not out of the hobo phase yet but I'm considerably closer now. Conserving resources and avoiding threats when possible is key to progression. The brown is also growing on me, although I prefer a green Zone.

>>558187869

>>
>>558188885
>Gonna see if my armor can last
If it's already at half, you may want to use the armor repair bug if you have saved either 4 of the Battery artifacts, 4 of the Pellicle, 4 of the Spring or 4 of the Shell artifacts. Then equip all 4 of the same one and stand in a corresponding anomaly until the armor is repaired. I usually equip 4 Battery artifacts and go to Wild Territory and and walk around in the electrical fields along the rail tracks.
The bug is that the 120% resistance of equipping 4 of the same artifact will actually reverse the damage on your armor, but it takes some time.
>>
>>558190460

NTA but hating it for shitty AI enhanced textures and redesigns of HUD and new bugs has nothing to do with muh culture war. And even when it comes to cultural aspects it's retarded - I don't mind changing the spelling of some names to the Ukrainian ones, but removing random shit like the posters in 100 Rads or the iconic song from CoP credits because it's in Russian is unjustifiable.

>>558261614
I didn't even notice an enhancement in textures, in fact for a while they were worse because there was a stupid forced FSR setting that made them render blurry unless you turned the sharpness up. Why they even introduced an AI upscaling option for a game that's still using 20 year old textures is beyond me.
Only played SoC "remaster" and IMO you're just better off with getting the GOG executables for the originals and ZRP/SRP. Something nobody has mentioned yet too is they replaced the grunt/pain noise that plays from fall damage with the tinnitus sound effect which is extremely annoying if you like doing cool jumps like me.

I wouldn't call fucking them up improving. Some elements of HUD lost their fidelity, some bumps got broken, some cutscenes have noticeable AI feel and blurry text in places where the AI couldn't handle it. And it's hard to worship soviet symbols when they are surrounded by decay and death, if anything this environment perfectly illustrates why "pootin's predecessors" should not be worshipped.
>>
>>558267970
It's a literal troll, man. No one with an IQ above 65 would be this brainless about people wishing to respect and appreciate the real history that happened there. Also 'pootin' is actual redditspeech. It's an obvious /v/atnigger trying to larp as "mr totally real annoying hohol shill".

Agreed and i's crazy how much this is lost on people, especially to those who live there and clearly despise Sovietism enough to remove the icons. Even in real life the 1986 disaster was regarded as a symbol of the Soviet Union's collapse.

Beat SoC
I'm really glad this >>558173479 happened to me as entered the mission without the recommended amount of ammo and it didn't give me too much trouble. It's a shame because you could kind of feel the moment they had to just ship the product. Still a solid ending, love the gunplay so a lot of it doesn't bother me, but the sign the devs were rushed in any game is when they just suddenly start throwing waves of enemies at you.
All that being said, in your adult life you rarely find games that surprise you anymore or that you have trouble putting down. This one was definitely that. Preciate all the advice as I went too

Oh! And what should I play Stalker 2 on if I'm used to master difficulty?
>>
>>558273718
Played it on Veteran at release and it felt good fighting stalkers but made some mutants really annoyingly tanky (think they fixed this at some point though). Difficulty also affects the economy in S2 too but it's not too harsh on Vet. It's not really done up like the old games and Master is more like a hardcore-lite difficulty.

go to gamedata\configs\misc\
open dinamic_hud.ltx
at the top, under [main]
change suithud_enable = 1 to suithud_enable = 0
save the file. start the game.
that should disable the suit/helmet mask overlays
there are a few other options in there too if you end up not liking them, this would be where to try and disable them too.
>>
>>558274724
I'll go vet then. Also
>fire it up
>try it out real quick
>immediately mouse feels SUPER off
>look it up
>it has smoothing and acceleration on by default
>have to edit the .ini to turn them off
... feels like I'm back in 2004. Graphics are nuts though.

Playing a little bit of 2, it's such a weird game to go to right after SoC (saving CoP for a bit as I wanted to give the original gameplay time to breathe)
It feels like an odd mix between the original STALKER gameplay and your usual AAA fair. Still, it's fun, but I'm not as immediately immersed as I was into SoC for whatever reason, which is especially weird considering the huge graphical leap. Also, gonna switch to the Russian dub as all the clashing accents really hurts the setting. Dunno why they went that bizarre route. Also also, not sure I dig all the overly animated immersive elements just yet such as having to pull your backpack up each time, or the voiced mc and cinematic camera over dialogue boxes.
>>
>>558306912
Also, graphically able to do everything on the highest settings with it jumping from 75-80 fps. It's funny, SoC was my first 120+ fps game and I could swear I didn't see the difference between that and 60, but now that I'm sub 100 fps I can see the jitter. Not a big deal, but an odd phenomenon

>especially weird considering the huge graphical leap
It's really not, because the higher the graphical fidelity of a game, especially those that aim for photorealism to some degree, the less is left for your brain to fill in the blanks, and the more there is for it to find wrong and nitpick. It's a digital uncanny valley. I'm sure you have experiences of your own where the grass or the concrete in a game looks too perfect, or something of that ilk. It also helps that SoC's grainy textures compliment the kind of decay and grittiness that the game world and story try to portray, whether by accident or intent. This is part of the reason why I believe older games still hold up very well; you can quite literally look past the dated graphics, it comes free with your pattern recognition.
>not sure I dig all the overly animated immersive elements
I agree with this wholesale, it seems all the more often that people and developers are mistaking immersion for realism. Immersion is as much (if not more) about keeping a player attentive and undistracted as it is about drawing him in to begin with. Wresting control from the player for pressing a button or performing an action betrays the principle of monkey brain neural activation = did a thing brain drugs, and shatters the illusion of being a direct actor within the game experience. It also puts a brake on the flow of actually interacting with the game in some way. Compare the Kielbasa eating animation from Escape from Tarkov, and the munch sound from SoC. Of course personal taste and intentional design comes into play here but I believe there's a sweet spot that works for most people, which games like Metro and My Summer Car manage to hit nicely. I'm qualified to complain, by the way, I'm a postgrad retard of the agroprom university. Just ask Professor Sakharov, he'll tell you.

>also nignogs and women in da zona enjoy!
Haven't seen that yet but I knew that was gonna happen. It just couldn't not considering their dealings with Microsoft and the current year. Just another thing that'll make the zone feel less 'real' in this one. The black people one I could sort of see as there are more in the Ukraine now of days and going into a dangerous zone for financial gain or to cause trouble would be up their alley, but women would NOT enter a lawless Zone filled with men... or at least, they wouldn't maintain their agency for long there. Guess I'll have to see how the game handles that.
>>558314207
That all makes sense, same reasons as I find myself more immersed in older rpgs and want not. With the small sound and visual cues I put together what was happening, I didn't need to see them in a way that slowed down gameplay. Also, something about the foliage in SoC really felt more alive and helped that dead world "breath" in a sense compared to 2, but I digress, I don't hate it. I'm having fun. I'm just not as immediately drawn into the world as I was in SoC. So far about the only new detail I like is that getting drunk in 2 makes the world vibrant and colorful for a bit when it impairs your aim. I thought that was kind of a neat detail. Also, the whole "taking control away messes with the monkey brain" bit makes a whole lot of sense.I hate to say it, but I worry this is gonna be the Fallout 4 of Stalker, though not necessarily to that degree.

So far I haven't seen any so it's not like a "Hogwarts Legacy" situation where there's a nonsensical level of diversity considering the setting and time period. Also, the STALKER feel is starting shine through and they did a great job with the emergent gameplay (wild cuz I remember somebody complaining that there were no "sidequests" in this game a while back). I stumbled upon a crazy looking abandoned village, helped a random stalker survive against some mutants, then we got jumped immediately after by some bandits and the way the bullets looked against the night sky looked really neat.
Switching languages helped a ton, turning on FSR 3.1 is getting me consistently over 100 fps and close to 120 usually (never thought I'd be a snob at 60fps, couldn't even notice the difference a month ago), about my only major gameplay gripe is I hate the hot and cold of finding artifacts.

Encountered my first instance of serious memery when I realized that a single medkit only heals about 1/6th of your health bar. There's really no way to justify this. My base carrying capacity is 30kg and I'm supposed to need a whopping six medkits to heal myself to full health? This is bullshit, so I modded things to be a bit easier. Now a single medkit will heal a generous 2/3rds of your health bar up from critical health.
On top of that, they also make you sleepier and have a small stamina drain, bullshit negatives which I also removed.
I also tweaked the stamina drain to be less ass.

I keep thinking how weird it is that Misery grew to become so popular, though. The gameplay is completely different from the vanilla games. The scarcity of resources and difficulty forces you to approach the Zone in a different way.
While I prefer the vanilla gameplay, it's fun to experience something different.

I specifically dislike the non-unified design of it, like certain elements are transparent while others are not, clashing fonts. I prefer minimalist UI design since I don't like staring at the gauges and I especially dislike handhold-y shit like the minimap or the damage indicator. Misery is indeed quite brown, but it is a style of its own.
After playing the mod I don't hate the brown/grey color palette as much. It doesn't look bad, it's just very different from what the original games look like. I'm starting to think that anon hates on it simply because of that reason.

Probably my biggest complaint about S2 are the cut weapons from the originals, no Fort-12, no Beretta, no Walther, no Sig 220, no Sig 550, no L85, no L300, no abakan, no bulldog grenade launcher, the protecta was cut, it feels like most of the western guns were cut. I need more guns.

Miserybro, could you share how the game feels right now in terms of difficulty? I got filtered like three times at the beginning of the mod due to the scale of ballbusting inflicted upon me. Does it get better in the midgame? I might get into it again if it does, you've somewhat inspired me.

>>558712508
>I'm kind of surprised you're still playing this
I'm havingfun. It's surprisingly well balanced. Misery 1.2 seems to hit that sweet spot of difficult gameplay without going too far. The only ridiculous memery I've encountered so far is medkits being practically useless, which is easy to mod. Once you get out of the hobo phase and acquire decent gear you stop dying all the time. Radiation becomes a non-issue once you get an artifact that reduces it.
Honestly, vanilla CoP is piss-easy and lacks that feeling of a threatening Zone SoC had, so if anything this is making the game more enjoyable for me. Keep in mind I did make a few changes, like making medkits more effective and reducing actor stamina drain. I also imported Lost Alpha's flashlight texture into the mod and made the flashlight reach longer.
Playing the original Misery is honestly pretty strange. You see all these resources, icons and textures and sounds, that've been used in Last Day, Dead Air, Anomaly, etc. I feel like I'm playing through a museum.

Ran into my second instance of serious memery in Misery 1.2.
In the quest in CoP where you have to defend the stalkers while they take anomaly measurements, Misery spawns like six to eight zombied stalkers right on top of you and the researchers. Complete and utter bullshit, the zombies just spawn out of thin air and immediately start gunning down the researchers.
This ruins what's otherwise a fun quest. If I remember correctly, in vanilla the zombied stalkers come shambling out of the village, giving you time to pick them off as they approach the hill.
After trying to deal with it and dying over and over, I modded my AK to do 500 damage on hit, took care of the meme zombies, then changed it back. If the mod's gonna cheat, so will I.

The mutant spawns can be nuts. There's one rule I've learned. Never enter a new area without a grenade launcher on your your rifle and at least 5+ grenades for it and at least 10 throwable grenades. Because it can get pretty fucking wild. My first play through when I entered the Dark Territory I was immediately swarmed by 10+ wild boars, 10+ wild dogs, a swarm of tushkanos, and about 8 snorks.
Good times.

How much better is ZONA on the performance front? All their videos advertise "best performing anomaly pack, while keeping good graphics" but I really can't believe it's that much better than GAMMA which already is only slightly more taxing that normal Analmeme with some grass/shaders. They also aren't even using AOEngine so I really doubt it's that much better and I haven't bothered to install it myself to check. The only video I can find of gameplay is from Venoxium over 5 months ago.

It does run better than GAMMA for me. I can keep most settings on medium and get a perfectly satisfactory ~50 FPS with minimal stutters. When playing GAMMA I had to spend like 15 minutes just fiddling with different settings to have a normal performance, otherwise it would stutter a lot and the FPS was also lower I believe. 3050ti btw.
>>
>>558891976
if you have a shit PC that struggle in gamma, like 40fps for example, zona can double the fps, the zona guys made changes to SSS, optimized 3d scopes, optimized textures and models, optimized scripts for cpu
and well, if you are on high end, like my system, i get 180fps at 1440p which gave me loads of room to add extra graphics stuff

My biggest gripe with mods like IWP and Zona are that they completely miss the point of STALKER. The weapons and systems are too realistic and high quality. It's the typical 'western modders thinking that high fidelity = good. At least GAMMA has the similar feeling to OP and COMPLETE of Eastern sensibilities, ie light hearted, amalgam of ideas, conplex storie lines. In essence, these are true STALKER experiences without the tacticool Tarkov-isms that westerners so desperately ape in their modifications.

Absolute 0 reading comprehension retards, nta btw. How did you miss 'light hearted' and 'amalgam of ideas'? Anon just likes soup mods. It's not 'high fidelity guns are BAD' but it's 'guns whose only appeal is high fidelity are bad' and that's a reasonable opinion.

The major Eastern modifications such as AMK, MISERY, NS and OP, COC, even the Anomaly and to a large extend GAMMA have the qualities required for essential STALKER experiences, sensations, impressions. To reiterate the point, western modifications focus too much on quality, polished visuals and streamlined moment to moment gameplay. Examples of such inferior products are the aforementioned IWP, zona, area, GUNSLINGER, etc.

You are wrong. There is no place in the Zone for high fidelity guns. Go play Tarkov if you desire such western contrivances.

Many a great bait peddlers here in this thread recently

ok, so an-94, groza, svu are very rare, but you can at least say the spetznaz brought them into the zone
meanwhile, F2000, LR300, desert eagle, sg550, spas-12, just why
the only thing they made that make sense was the SL8 instead of the G36, which is sold to commercial market for hunting and sport
well, i think there should be a modpack where 90% of the rifles are just AKs

not interested in discussing realism in a post-apocalyptic alternate reality mil sim with anomalies, magic rocks, talking zombies, and mutated telepathic creatures that can turn invisible

noooo you dont understand, the zone is a realistic slav village simulator and totally not the biggest fucking alien point of interest in the entire world with goverments and insitutions spending millions in expeditions while illogical magic is happening everywhere all the time so please only allow knives, makarovs and ak74s thank you

You somehow manage to be twice as cringe and retarded as the guy saying that western weapons needed to be deleted.

Yes, it's good.
>Does it manage to capture the atmosphere of the first game?
Atmosphere is one of its stronger points, however I'm not sure if it's like SoC exactly.
>Can you actually play the game without going on a bug rampage?
Generally speaking, yes. That said, there are very annoying bugs with burers/polters throwing shit through walls and A-Life generating too many NPCs. They should be fixed with the next patch that is due sometime later this month.
