Geodes give rewards on a pre-set order that progresses by one any time you open any geode (or artifact crate I think). Because the amount of geode cracks can be well over 100 (more if you stick to ignoring either cave or omni geodes) towards the end of museum completion a predictor can make it infinitely easier to farm since it lets you use omni geodes or geodes you've already gotten all minerals from to get the mineral you need. There is roughly a 1% chance for a 3x3 crop plot to turn into a giant overnight, but it only happens on the top left plot, I believe? It used to be the middle plot, but then they changed it I think. It can trigger that chance every night as long as those are full grown and I think watered. The chances of you getting a second one are quite low desu
This is because when you have a large feild, like you had, presumably you had powdermelons everywhere and that means that almost every plot inbetween the sprinklers each had an individual chance to grow into a giant, provided they had enough crops around them. Planting a deliberate 3x3 and hoping for it to grow will be difficult. You can keep them there for the rest of the season, but you'll only have 1% chance per night
You can destroy it and take your chances, but your chances of growing another are low.
I had one savefile where I tried to grow giants in specific spots. It took me 5 years of cycling to get them to grow. This was in vanilla.

SVE certainly has the most questionable dialogue, and the new characters are a mixed bag. I did marry Olivia, a proper milf whose backstory is honestly pretty decently written compared to the rest of the SVE cast.
My friend married Sophia which is funny since he doesn't usually like her archtype. He admitted later that she's not exactly the most compelling character, if what you're saying is true that it's a self-insert then go figure.

As for the worldbuilding, I actually forgot a lot about it. It would've been better if they tried to keep things vague, but because it's supposed to be an expansion of the base game, it's inevitable they would cross into fanfic territory. I was also the dedicated miner/fighter of the group, so I had the unfortunate experience of going through the new areas. The first new forest you unlock through the adventurer's guild is honestly not bad, and I really like the new enemy types it introduces. The badlands can go fuck itself, it's just a battlefield full of enemies which I personally wouldn't mind if I just cared about fighting, but it along with the rest of the new maps don't really have much to discover.

Would anyone be interested in a 4 corners multiplayer game? Ive never done a multiplayer game in Stardew but it seems like a 4 player server would be a lot of fun if we could agree upon like, an hour a day to play.

Imagine the autism of modders if they allow for new custom AIs for monsters.

Is there an optimal layout for starting a plot of crops? I haven't done any farming yet

The 'most optimal' is always just going to be as many of the largest sprinklers you have in a flat grid, but depending on the farm map you chose you may run into times where it's not really possible to make it that even or organized. You kinda have to play it by ear and figure out how work your own space as you go along. Don't worry too much because you can always just redesign it. Winter is basically made for that purpose

Scarecrows have a range of 7 or 8 and are kinda circular. Just plonk them at the edges of your feilds and they should reach the middle provided you don't just put 100 quality sprinklers next to eachother in a grid lol
What map are you playing on?
if you're playing on a non-standard map, you'll have to think much more about your layout to maximize space and work around the uneven terrain. The standard farm you can basically just do a grid, but imo those are boring if that's all you do.
Personally, I prefer to have a combination of symetrical grids and asymmetrical design, shaped after the landscape. When you're just starting out, you dont need to worry too much because you'll have the opportunity to change up your layout every winter
