Pioneer got its yearly update :) A couple cool changes are that now they simulate the proper color of starlight procedurally using planckian locus which I think is pretty sweet. Also they added "find X NPC in Y system" missions which I found fun because you'll arrive in a system with several spaceports to potentially search and therefore more player agency vs. flying a beeline to a single objective like a lot of other missions.

Mechanically it's very good and has a lot of potential, but practically you'll be nickel-and-dimed to death for basic content and end up in an empty, unbalanced, half-baked sim environment with like 6 other extremely autistic rich people in MP.

How much do you bet they're gonna, once again, release a truck sim but won't add proper wheel support until 1 or 2 years later.
I just need some proper competition to ETS/ATS man.
>>
>>558462628
I watched a video that mentioned that game and how it's aiming for a more sovlful truck sim. I'm not expecting much honestly, but competition is always good. I remember thinking Alaskan Road Truckers looked like it had potential but apparently it's shit.

Actually I hope it's good just because it has classic trucks. One thing I've never understood about ATS/ETS2 is why there isn't a third party addon market for it unlike flight and train sims. People would pay to have decent old trucks in the game, or different maps.
>>
>>558463683
>>558463950
I'm cautiously optimistic. I really need something better than ATS/ETS. They're too fucking sterile its killing me. Also yeah, i need some classic trucks. As far as i can tell the mod scene on those games is a fucking joke.
>>

>>558464184
People on the forums are saying it'll most likely be quite arcadey in terms of the gameplay, not sure whether that will translate to the driving itself though.

Personally I'm waiting for Motor Town to come out of EA, that has trucks in it.
>>
>>558467682
>Motor Town
It's pretty arcadey and still a bit half-baked but it's a lot of fun. Very pure and full of sovl.
>>
>>558471931
Buying early access games is against my religion so I'll be waiting anyway.
>>
>>558443825
I enjoy it a lot. It's very clean and lightweight (engine hand built from lua) while providing extremely solid fundamentals for a space sim (newtonian flight model with orbits, full manual control, full scale systems and seamless planetfall, full size procedural galaxy with rpg elements vs. just a build sandbox like kerbal). IMO the experience feels much more complete and definitely more of a true sim than some of the bigger names like Elite Dangerous or Star Citizen. In fact I don't think there currently exists any 3D open world space game with a true newtonian model (RIP Rogue System. Alliance Space Guard is in dev and definitely worth watching IMO). It helps that this project has been in continued development since 2006. The main criticisms of the game will be about the same as Elite II; after enough hours the missions get samey and the galaxy starts to feel empty. I had about 50 hours just on my playthrough of last year's build. There is a bit of grind to buy new ships but nowhere close to grinding in ED, mostly I play Pioneer like a truck sim where I'll hop in to fly a few relaxing hours and maybe complete one or two transits. There are time controls a la Elite II and you can play in real time taking hours or days to get around if you like. Project is free and open source as well. Probably my single favorite game/project if I had to pick one, yes I am shilling thankyou for listening.

>>558467682
>People on the forums are saying it'll most likely be quite arcadey in terms of the gameplay, not sure whether that will translate to the driving itself though.
I mean most of the games they made so far (Mudrunner, Snowrunner etc) are pretty arcade and are better played with a controller even after they added wheel support. So i wouldn't be surprised. It can still be a good game tho if it actually has soul.

Hey, remember when i said the chinks at moza refunded me ? Well i was wrong, it was just their website taking a fat shit.
So i send a mail to cancel right the same day i ordered to order from some local shop instead.
They answered 5 days later to tell me "SORRY SORRY PLEASE DON'T CANCEL WE WILL PUT YOU FIRST IN LINE ALSO YOUR PACKAGE IS ALREADY ON DELIVERY PREASE UNDERSTAND"
Then nothing until today (its been like 22 days), even tho i sent more mails to tell them they were full of shit and i wanted my money back.
Made a post on their subr*ddit to explain my problem, one of their dude send me a DM 5 min later asking for my order numbers, and 5 minutes later i was refunded.

So is this going to be Snowrunner but on-road and with wear and tear mechanics instead of component health bars?
I could see myself enjoying that since I generally like the way Runner games play and feel but they'll seriously have to overhaul the driving physics at high speed. Its extremely finnicky keeping your truck in a straight line when you're going fast.
>>
>>558522485
I really wanted the 152 in IL-2 but I barely use it since most sorties never take you high enough and below 18k ft it's just a slower, less maneuverable D9.

Yeah this one has always annoyed me. Since the very first spintires, the engine has NEVER been good at high speed stuff. It wasn't made for it. It was made for huge off-road, slow fuck off trucks. And yet you'll always find retards trying to zip around or installing mods with fast cars. Just play another game at this point.

>not even a sim game, which is weird because DCS and others sims eat CPU for breakfast and i never really had a problem with those
>find a bunch of people with the same problem, no answer
>power draw stays nearly the same but the CPU (7950x3d) suddenly goes bananas to 85°c+ for like a minute and then goes down, repeat
>for no good reason, nothing special is happening
>been 2 years since i've installed this CPU, perhaps i'll try to repaste it
>repaste and refill the AIO
>problem is gone
My educated guess would be, this game in particular would start using like one or two specific cores, and those two were positioned at a point where the thermal paste had dried up. It looked pretty crusty when i took it off, i don't think i've put enough, not used to such huge CPUs. Oh well lesson learned.
Thanks for reading my blog post.
>>
>>558614024
Nvm it still does it. Like, less hot but still does. I guess its just a piece of shit game.
>>
>>558614024
Try using Process Lasso to set your core affinity to P-Cores only, and if that doesn't work then maybe try halving the P-Cores allowed until either the spikes go away or you're running single core.
In my experience, E-Cores in gaming are like women in military/sports; it's not their place, but they'll insist on being included anyways and then fuck everything up and complain about it.
>>
>>558620686
It doesn't have the E-core/P-core jank that intel has, but i'm using Process lasso anyway. And i've tried mostly everything, including turning off half the CPU to only use the side with extra-cache. From what i've gathered, it's just an issue with world of warcraft and nothing can really be done. Some of my friends reported the same thing.
I mean, 85°c isn't even that crazy for an AMD cpu of this gen, especially the 3d model. I just annoy me that it gets that how for no apparent reason and ramps up the fans.
Thanks for the tips tho.

The driving sim is there, but I'd say it leans more towards transport tycoon in many of its mechanics. Can be played almost entirely AFK watching vehicles drive themselves in autopilot. Feels thoroughly Korean.

Apart from being set in actual Korea, with Korean place names and Korean road signs, it's also got that particular cartoonish indie dev vibe that seems common over there. Lots of quaint unpaved rural countryside and self-service kiosks in every store, too.

That's the small island, 3.5x12km, maybe 15 minutes end to end? The bigger map with both islands is like 300 sq km overall, ~20km top to bottom.
It feels bigger with the terrain and winding roads, sort of a GTA effect.

Generally good, there is sometimes one corner on the stage that you need to remember. Typically when a sharp corner comes after a crest or a sweeping corner, so you need to break much earlier then normally. I've had same issues in dirt rally series. But codrivers flips pages and is animated to react to g forces. Its kind of a gimmick for replay though. Ive driven on monte so much on dirt rally/ea wrc i know these stages lol.

Buy once cry once with high-end gear you might not stick with, or start cheap and secondhand and only upgrade once you use it enough to break it or get annoyed by its shortcomings?
>>
>>559194874
What sort of gear, sticks, throttles etc? Buy a good cheaper one and go from there, buy once cry once is a stupid strategy that will lead to wasted money.
>>
>>559194965
Racing gear in this case, internet consensus seems to be that direct-drive and load cells are the absolute minimum now. I started flight simming with surplus Xbox 360 gear, so know the slow grind pays off, but the shopping-first minority is loud and awfully persistent in the sim hobby.
I feel like most people who spend big on gear are buying the idea of a lifestyle, kind of like someone who buys a treadmill and just drapes laundry over it.
"I should really use that more" is a stupid thought to get from looking at an object that was purchased to enable fun.
Separating the "collect and optimize equipment" hobby from the actual "play the damn game" hobby can be difficult sometimes.
>>
>>559195783
The simming community is full of rich fuckers who spend hideous amounts of money, don't listen to them. If you have absolutely nothing then just get a logitech tier wheel and pedals, see if you're really into it, and then go from there. I know bugger all about wheels, maybe check the OP. There's no point spending a grand, playing for a month and then never again.
>>
>>559192305
the trento bondone race is cool
>>
>>559195987
I could afford to spend hideous amounts of money on it, but why blow $200+ on a Moza direct-drive when an $80 ebay-special G29 does the few hours of casual entertainment a month job at least half as well?
Glad to have never sunk $1k into a high-end HOTAS and sim pit, that urge waxes and wanes too and the cheap shit is much easier to chuck in a drawer and forget for a while.
>>
>>559196928

>>
>>559194965

Used high-end stuff will sell more easily and for a higher percentage of the initial cost compared to bargain basement dogshit that everyone will just assume is already broken.

There's a minimum viable quality level for a half-decent experience. Logitech or CH will still get you most of your $50 back.
