Honestly, regarding Vegeta, I think Sonic had the best approach to deuteragonists and rivals by not being attached to certaij characters. They fluctuated depending on the game. Shadow is usually considered Sonic's rival, but Sonic doesn't really have a one true rival.

Eggman, his main adversary, sees him as a rival. This is one-sided (kind of like Vegeta).
Metal Sonic is his rival because there can be only one Sonic.
Knuckles is a friendly rival. They are friends but tease each other constantly.

Shadow being a direct analog to Vegeta is a more recent thing. Prior to the 2010s, he could be antagonistic, sure, but I wouldn't call him particularly unfriendly. Silver used to be more unfriendly than Shadow, who, even in SA2, could be fairly polite. As someone who's played it from February 2023 to March 2025, I second that Anon's advice.
The game is a boring grindfest, and when it's not (once you hit the endgame and all you have to do is farm Co-Op, friendship crystals and the occasional raid to clear the exchange shops), it's an irritating and miserable experience as you have to climb as high as you can in the Ranked PvP mode to collect gems for pulls because there's no other way to get those.
The story, which gets updated once or twice per year, is absolutely not worth the hassle.
I'm thankful for giving me Shallot and I did have a good time until the later half of 2025 as an F2P,, maybe it changed for the better in the time I left (I wouldn't count on that; new rarity, supports that you have to level up and put you at a disadvantage if you don't) but it's a game that I know I will never touch again in this life.

XV2 desu.
Kakarot is the type of game that you play once and then uninstall until it gets DLC or any sort of update with additional content because there's nothing meaningful to do once you clear the story and the side quests (unless you count fighting buffed versions of Frieza, Cell and Buu as a postgame that is worth your time.)
I played it twice (once on release, and then again at some point after DLC3 aka Future Trunks' DLC came out), and the 2nd playthrough was immensely boring until I hit the 3rd DLC which was basically the only remarkable part of the playthrough (and I feel like there was a fine scene in the 2nd DLC where Vegeta and Kid trunks reenacted the dirty fireworks moment with Friea's fodder or the Ginyu Force or something? Can't rember.)
When/If I jump back to play the other DLC, I'll definitely not do a 3rd playthrough, I'll just reuse one of my other 2 playthroughs' saves.

Meanwhile, Xenoverse 2 has eternal mods (content for multiple lifetimes easily; customization far beyond the base game's, issues that are addressed and that Dimps never fixed themselves, fights on a myriad of different stages with a plethora of different characters and against whatever characters you want, be it from Og, Z, GT, Super, Heroes, literal fanfics like AF, etc) and it's got a fresher concept than "let's go through the story of Dragon Ball Z for the nth time". And Daima's for the 2nd time nowadays, I guess.

I've beaten DBZ for Kinect and Ultimate Tenkaichi multiple times. Legends was my full time job for about 2 years. I've even willingly tortured myself by replaying LoG 1 and XV1 for muh nostalgia's sake.

I am the definition of someone who will play and force myself to enjoy any game as long as it has the Dragon Ball name on it. I still will not ever even entertain the idea of playing Breakers, not even as a joke. I don't care if there are 5 people out there that love it, the game should have never made past the concept phase. Whoever said 'what if we mixed Dragon Ball with Dead By Daylight' should have been executed on the spot via firing squad.

Wait I just realised that there's one DB character with this specific cape design the great demon kings got... Babbidi. I agree each subsequent series suffers from this same issue to varying degrees. It takes at least 5 episodes for things to get interesting. In Daima's case, 5 episodes was already half the damn show. This would be a death sentence for 99% of other shows and it kinda killed Daima for some but I can understand why the majority of people still stuck around. Last time I played XV2, the level cap was 99. I can't be bothered to do this hellish grind on all of my CaC especially not the newer ones. Most of them are going to have be killed off or go into retirement. There can only be one legendary Hero of Conton City for the history books anyway so I don't feel too bad. Hopefully there's one big finale raid where everyone gets to go out with a bang before the next game.

I wonder what kind of strange era specific oddities XV3 will have. Given that it's probably going to drop as the Moro arc is airing, there's bound to be a good amount of them. I hope that they don't patch them out down the line like they did with the Daima characters being Japanese only. Little things like that are what really make these games memorable in my mind at least.

Eventually, another game is going to have to have a Gohan Black what-if and I'm going to constantly confuse that with Sparking Zero. Just like all the games that have a what if Vegeta went SSJ early mission. Besides Budokai 1, they're all interchangeable. There's something that bothers me with modern DB, and that's the power scaling but for a different reason. In the original DB manga, when the next arc came around the corner, we know without a shadow of a doubt that the heroes surpassed the preceding antagonist, the power balance moved and it was unambiguous. But in modern DB, the writers leave it as ambiguous as they can be in order to preserve the status quo. Nevermind the fact that Goku and Vegeta still hasn't surpassed Beerus as of to this day, they haven't even surpassed Jiren as of late. Appaarently, Jiren's Ki control and power is still a benchmark for Goku and Vegeta to surpass even in Super Hero.

Toriyama and Toyotaro are maintaining that no mortal cleanly surpasses Jiren, that's why Goku had to outmove him and not overpower him, because MUI is not a regular form. And Toyotaro confirmed that Black Frieza is stronger than Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Piccolo AND Broly.

Gohan's Beast Form also drains him quickly but he hits all at once against Goku. He can't sustain that level of force, so Jiren wins in raw endurance and consistency and is knocked the second Gohan gets winded.

Why is the writing all over the place in modern DB when it comes to power scaling?
