The Rubinstein mini saga by Agadmator was pretty good. The games were pure kino. Rubinstein had such a crisp style and the way he was grinding down the romanticucks was a thing of beauty. He was a lot like a Magnus generation type modern player who takes minimal risk but maxes out the small advantages he does get.

I have previously alluded to this forum, it is one that might be interesting, if not tired, to you...
Chess discussion here is bustling. Whereas here you will find posts half-hours if not hours old with no reply or continuance of discussion, here you will find posts 6, 9, 10, 16 minutes ago and more flowing in. Here you can find a reply to any chess inquiry you may have, any game analysis you wish to be done, any showcase you wish to be posted...
Here there is no shortage of jokes, interesting chess links, opening discussion, chess forum games, chess variant discussion...
There is almost anything you might feel is missing from this general. It is wise, it is unwise, it is old and it is young. I will post the link underneath this post.https://www.chess.com/forum-14:06:37 UTC

shogi news:
the final round of the top division of the Meijin challenger league was played. Going in, Takuya Nagase and Tetsuro Itodani were tied at 7-1 (no other player could catch up to them). In a surprising turn of events, both of them lost their games. Because of this, a tiebreaker game will be played between them on 3/2.
The winner will face Sota Fujii in a match for the Meijin title, the first game of which will be played 4/8-9.

Usuallly mass reporting is accompanied by some chesstuber making an accusation and chesscom being forced to bring the banhammer down to save face and maintain trust in the cheat detection system, but randos on /chess/ (read: 4chan) don't really have that influence.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>558810543
That is common, I have it happen all the time too.
My advice: play the opening anyway and if you don't know the move, then look up the move afterwards. Then you are more likely to remember it next time, and then you will remember the first move and not know the 2nd move, so do the same thing with that and keep learning 1 move at a time for each game.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>558814051
I do that, I just forget it by the time that position comes back around. I mean there are what, at least 3-5 playable moves for each side at any position? 7 moves into the game you're at tens of thousands of permutations that you have to know. My memory sucks but I still don't see how anyone who isn't a master plays anything that isn't a system babby opening like the London or Hippopotamus.
>>
>>
>>558816170
I am not a master and I have a ton of stuff memorized. You are not memorizing random bits of information; it is a move that has logic to it and is connected with the future gameplan. So if you can remember the gameplans and the goals you are trying to accomplish, then it is easier to remember the moves to get there.

Honestly I can't because I only remember the move but not all the variations. It's very complicated like I said.
Here's the position if you wanna see it yourself: https://lichess.org/analysis/standard/5k2/1b2Npp1/2p4p/1pq5/8/2N3nP/5P P1/Q4BK1_w_-_-_2_32
I wonder what rating this would have as a puzzle. Could easily be 3000+ imo.
>>
>>558852964
Sorry to double post but now that I look at it I realized that I may have oversold it a little because there's only 2 big variations and neither of them is that long but the move itself does come out of left field. It seemed more complicated yesterday. Even the resulting position with the queen/two connected passed pawns/minor piece vs queen/2 minor pieces endgame is not that difficult since black can't really advance the pawn. White has to be patient but eventually those pawns will fall.

At what point do I stop being considered the weakest world champion? I was at least top 10 in when I got the title, unlike gukesh
>>
>>
>>558869047
>>558869165
Ding didn't even play after he barely won against Fat Tardpomniachtchi. Or when he did, he was playing like an average GM at best.
Was just thinking about it that anons here used to celebrate when Gukesh lost and then he lost again yesterday but by this point no one cares since it happened so many times. Magnus really set the bar high.
>>
>>
>>558871762
What? Ding got into the Candidates purely by chance and because Magnus was being vague and Fabi didn't believe him about the abdication. Gukesh qualified legitemately and also won legitimately with a stellar performance. In the last round he was the only contender who managed to keep his nerves.
>>
>>558864197
it does not. What it selects for (and reinforces) is autism. High functioning autists look smart to normies, therefore the confusion.
Many chess masters do not even possess the social skills to take a random kramnik rambling, without overdosing on meth for it
>>
>>558872019
ding got 2nd place in candidates and then won the WC match against equal opposition
the candidates pookesh "won" were a complete joke with abasov and alireza feeding left and right, alireza didnt even try for half the games, along with beating his jeet countrymen. then to top it off ding can barely make a move without blundering in the WC match so he gets a free win there
hes not a legitimate WC

>>558872019

>>558872113
Ding also got the title without facing Magnus, you can't argue he's any more legitimate than Gukesh. You lose all objectivity because the current weak WC happens to be an unmemorable jeet so there's no point to continue this.
Though it is an interesting question for top players if they could pick their opponent for the match, would they choose Nepo, '22 Ding, '24 Ding or Gukesh.
>>
>>558873119
i never said anything about magnus you moronic shitskin
if ding had abdictated seeing as he was unable to play and pookesh had instead played the WC match against fabi or hikaru and won, then i'd say he earned it
the fact of the matter is that the only people he beat to get WC were pragg, vidit, alireza, abasov, and a completely washed ding, thats absolutely meaningless

>>558852964
I didn't get it but it doesn't seem that out of nowhere. White is up a piece for two pawns but that piece is going to fall. The question is how to make one of black's pieces fall with it. Clever solution.
>>
>>
>>558869047
Ding is the only "world champion" who didn't win a candidates or defeat the previous world champion. Calling him the weakest world champion would be giving him too much credit because he's not a valid world champion period.

The third game of the 51st Kio title match is being played, between Sota Fujii (sente, the Kio title holder) and Yasuhiro Masuda. The time control is 4 hours per player, and the match is a best of 5 (currently tied at 1-1).
The opening of this game is bishop exchange (sente's reclining silver vs. gote's rapid-advancing silver).

cheating is so out of control, even the Atomic Chess World Champion just got his account deleted after getting caught cheating.
"NeverOFzero was the 2025 AWC champion and has been the highest rated player in atomic chess for most of the last two years. In a shocking turn of events, NeverOFzero, or "NoZ", was just banned by lichess for boosting AND cheating."
There are a few variants where my gut feeling is the #1 player is just an engine user. The guys in 2/3/4/5 make moves a human can understand, but the "world champion" makes totally bizarre neural network looking voodoo bullshit.

No it should be or, because I will accept

But I will not accept doing neither of these things, and Ding did neither.

In summary, the International Olympic Committee unrestricted Russian and Belarussian players' access to sport so that they could compete without political interference and recommended other sports orgranizations to do the same, and FIDE decided to act accordingly. They both decided that they would reintroduce the national flags. Karjakin then played two games to become active.

Note that the statement does not come to a conclusion on the question of adults' tournaments, only youth ones, I am assuming the decision was finalized later.

Looking through it haven't found that one yet but found this interesting tweet by him, he apparently has been on this problem for a while now he has a lot of tweets about it. I do think there might be an issue in his logic here. He's not making clear exactly when these two screenshots happened, and so he's leaving the possibility that, say, the screenshot on Feb 22nd happened at 11pm and the screenshot that happened on Feb 23rd happened at 6pm. It would seem ridiculous that they report more players having joined in the last 24 hours than you calculate is the difference between the player counts at these two points but you must mind that the "last 24 hours" were from feb 22 at 6pm to feb 23 at 6pm. To make the point extremely apparent, say you took these two screenshots right before and right after midnight. The player count difference would be ridiculously small, and yet the "last 24 hours" would show a player count increase of much more.

OK it seems like he addressesed this earlier. I will have to actually check this page and make sure what he's saying is correct because I don't want to just take him at his word (he doesn't do the same to anyone else, and rightfully so) but if it does adjust every 24 hours then that is quite strange and he's correct that the math doesn't add up.

Had a miraculous classical victory today. Feels good. The opponent was completely dominating and pushing back all my pieces but faltered during the conversion and I managed to came out ahead in the complications. The cherry on top was that in the post mortem he kept showing me ways in which he could've won and every potential move I was thinking about as a response he refuted in his calculation. He must've thought I was a lucky blitz-brained retard because I started blitzing when I realized how bad the postion is. Oh well, at least my conversion was clean.

Masuda won in 122 moves. The next game will be played on 3/15.
With this loss, Fujii is now on the brink of losing two of his titles (the other is the Osho, where Takuya Nagase leads 3-1 in the match). Could he make a comeback in these matches, or will we enter the first four title-holder era in years?
>>
If your "World Championship" can't even attract the strongest player(s), can you really call it a world championship any more? We saw this happen in the computer arena as well. The last few decades of the WCCC barely attracted a handful of engines below the top 20, and Stockfish never participated. It was a "championship" in name only until it was finally canceled in 2024.
FIDE should either reform the championship cycle or do away with the title altogether.

FIDE doesn't consider it rapid either, 10+0 is lowkey one of the most degenerate time controls, it lulls you into thinking you are playing chess then turns into a clicking competition.
I'm slow brained as fuck and I'd rather play 3+2 than 10+0.
>>
>>558988390
I wish. Unfortunately they never do any OTB world championships for any variants other than chess960 (which would just be done purely because regular chess world champs fischer/magnus like it)
It's unfortunate hikaru sucked so badly at duck chess that we can't have an OTB tourney. Rosen got #2 in the online championships, but when the top 10 superGMs dont play variants sponsors will never do an OTB one.

I agree that any increment time control has a benefit over a no-increment time control like 10+0. It is much more 'real'. You have to actually play out the entire game and win on the board.
>>
>>559019494
I also agree. I will never play 10+0. All 10+0 cocksuckers do is they pretend to play a game of chess for 8 or 9 minutes, to get your clock low trying to think of good moves, then they switch into playing a very shitty bullet match premoving 50 terrible moves hanging every single piece to try to beat you on time. They're the most pathetic cocksuckers in the entire chess planet. They're actually 1+0 bullet players but they're so shit at the game they just lose against actual bullet players, so they have to try to swindle people actually playing chess into a surprise bullet game with deception.
>>
>>
>>558947726
it's kinda funny that karjakin who has skipped like 5 years of play to have a political career as a Senator is higher rated than the indian 'world champion', goes to show just how meaningless the title became ever since Magnus threw it in the trash
>>
>>559020618
No, I'm good, which is why I don't play 10+0. The people who play 10+0 get stuck at IM and never become grandmasters in their entire lives because their only skill is time-scrambles which they'll never be able to use in Actual chess.

>Are you the anon with enough passive income that you can focus your entire life on chess?
No, I only started playing like six months ago. I'm still kinda new to this general as well, so I have no idea who you're talking about.
>Good luck with your tournaments
Thanks anon.
>Did you prepare any openings?
Yeah, but I'm not sure I nailed everything. I didn't have much time, so for white I learned some lines against E5, the Caro, French, Sicilian, and Scandinavian. For black, I learned some E5 lines against the Italian, Spanish, Scotch, and King's Gambit, and some D5 lines against the London and Queen's Gambit. If/when something else pops up, I'll just try my best to wing it and stick to opening principles.
>Is it completely open event or it has divisions?
Completely open, hosted by my local club. I saw a bunch of our titled players signed up, including a GM, so I'm fully expecting to get annihilated. I'll be happy if I manage to win even a single game, and if not, there's always the next tournament.

>How many rounds is it? It’s a 1 day event?
It's basically a six-month tournament series. Each month there's a one-day event with 7 rounds played in the Swiss system. You earn points for participating and for your final placement, and at the end of the series only your best five results count toward the overall standings.

Nope, it can notoriously difficult to realize you're autistic since you don't have a good point of reference for what's normal. I've read an autism book by a PSYCHOLOGIST who didn't realize she was autistic until she was in her 40s when her daughter pointed out her autism behaviors.

Oh I did. A big thing was helping me counter cognitive distortions. My biggest distortions were using normies as both my measuring stick and my goal. I used to measure my success by how much I conformed to what normal people expected of me and my goal was to blend in perfectly with them, essentially. But now I know and believe neither of those are useful.

Therapy helps because sometimes it's not enough to know something. You can know something and not seem to believe it. Biggest example for me was comparing myself to other people. Everyone knows you're not supposed to do this. I've heard it a million times and I know it's good advice, yet somehow I kept doing it. Therapy helped finally silence the part of my mind that kept comparing myself.

My elderly teammate is a worse drama queen than a teenage girl with a reality tv addiction. Always whinging in the group chat, always unable to decide if he wants to play in the league rounds or not, and then always apologizing and self-aggrandizing afterwards. God forbid he loses a game. "Oh, I'm never playing again, why did I even come, someone else should've played instead of me, I'm so useless" etc. So tedious. He does some based things and he's an okay player but goddamn how are you gonna act like a 12 yo in your 70s.

Update: I went 0/7 and finished dead last. I got outplayed by almost everyone (with opponent ratings ranging from 1500 FIDE to 2100 FIDE), except for one 1500 FIDE dude who I somehow got a winning position against and still lost on time. Overall it was fun, and I'm glad I played, but damn was seeing my name at the absolute bottom of the standings demoralizing. On the bright side, it can only get better from here.

I have autism.
Is it normal for your roommate to ask you to stay out of the living room for a date? This is chess related because my board is downstairs and it's having consequences for my rating. It'd be different if he was serious about any of these girls, but it's like a weekly 1 time thing where other than the bathroom and kitchen I basically just have to stay in my room all evening.
