Healing Flame is the best one for self healing and survivability, since you have to press 3 a lot anyway you'll be healing yourself, armor stripping, and generating overguard all in one go. The overguard amount isn't high, but overguard breaking gives you invincibility just like shield gating. So it works out.
Fireball Frenzy is an alternative if you want to buff your and allies' weapons.
Exothermic can be used if you don't have Energize or Zenurik or another source of energy, but there's a lot of ways to get energy now.

yeah builds from 2020 aren't going to be that different today. At the time it was damage, multishot, crit mods, viral + hm, and then something like shred, argon scope, bladed rounds, whatever fit the weapon. Alternatively you could use corrosive and have another free slot
today the biggest difference is that heat has replaced hunter munitions, because heat reduces armor now having a 60% heat mod is always very good without innate heat. And viral is still king. Otherwise guns are built mostly the same, just with a few new crit and multishot mods. The biggest change other than heat is primary and secondary condition overload mods which usually replace flat damage, and the flat damage is offloaded to the arcane slot. Another important thing is the elementalist mods which increase status damage, for when you're doing a pure status build.
I think that's all the important things to know about weapon building anyway

Status weapons are currently extremely unpopular, because lots of elite enemies or bosses are resistant or immune to status. Pistols don't count because they have Secondary Enervate. Base Phantasma vs Prime stat differences: Prime has slightly bigger mag size and more base critical chance (which doesnt matter as it has low base crit damage anyway). It also has more innate polarities. No difference to damage or other stats. However, Base Phantasma has a much higher riven dispo and this is where Prime falls behind.

So if you have a riven, use the base phantasma instead of the Prime as that will be a better gun by quite a lot. My Phantasma is my strongest weapon in my arsenal thanks to a busted riven (+electricity, +multishot, +fire rate, -crit chance). With primary crux, the ammo issues are solved and there is no other weapon that shits out 500+ status procs in just 1 second. All thanks to fire rate and multishot working wonders on beam weapons.

I kinda miss my Ignis Wraith and Arca Plasmot but they just aren't cutting it in SP compared to my better guns (Felarx, Laetum, Cedo, Trumna)

Any suggestions for a "click button, get big projectile" weapon? I wanted Bassosyst and even killed a Coda Lich but found out BUYING the weapon is MR17 (I'm MR15). Citrine has a cute gun that shoots flowers but stats aren't that crazy.
I looked at a lot of beam rifles but most seem to have very narrow, weak-looking beams.
