People actively try to distance themselves from it and apart from employees or fanatics, no one is going to continue playing it. D1 is part of the Destiny universe, people who only played D2 might buy D1 out of curiosity, and vice versa. I think Marathon's failure might be even more pathetic than Concord and Highguard. At least those two games had the excuse of being from brand new studios. They're 100% going back to prioritizing Destiny, because they bet too much money on the idea that a sweaty extraction shooter would turn around their ailing fortunes. It may be too late and "over" for Bungie as we know it, but there's still a lot of interest in the series to where its not hard to envision a situation where Sony prioritizes remote work on it, or relocating their best workers to a smaller office in a smaller suburb to save on costs.
