This is some cool shit anon. Do you post on itch or youtube or something? Anywhere I can follow this progress?
I love the UI going all the way to do that camera zoom out but it might be better to not be so obvious what you're copying. Same goes for gameplay. Maybe I'm too quick to inject my opinions on you since I'm excited to see this.

Phantasy Star Online was originally a Dreamcast MMO that eventually ported everywhere and had early 2000s charm. There is still a community but it is under served by a "true" sequel, since the actual sequels got progressively more out-of-touch and the series is just a trainwreck now.
So I figure I'll make my own sequel and call it Shmatasy Schmar Schmonline and probably not make it online because that could end up being a pain in my arse, I'll see.

Nah nothing for tracking progress yet, when there is something a bit more play-testable I will. Thanks for your enthusiasm.
In terms of what is made vs what needs to be made - its only a few rooms built; six different weapon classes and different model variants; one character class mesh; a Booma-like enemy with three variants that is otherwise does everything a Booma needs to do.
A more professional person would more responsibly build their vertical slice - but its so fun just modeling weapons and then going and messing up that single Booma-like thing each time that I've spent a lot of time on it.

How do I cope with the fact that I'm not the game design genius I thought I was?
I always thought I had amazing ideas that would sell gangbusters and I'm only held back by my lack of programming and art skills. After 8 years I can draw better than Undertale and can code better than Yanderedev but my game isn't even remotely close to being as popular or making as much money as theirs.
What did I even spend all that time for?

The pros:
[x ] there's a shopkeeper
[x] she has boobs
[red cute imp is there too] x
Th e cons:
[x] shopkeeper girl doesn't have sex minigame
[ ] stolen silver drop chance is way too
[ ] low i've killed dozens of the gay feathery raptors and it still didn't drop

Some things that stuck out to me:
>I kept wasting actions because characters would move when I just tried to select them
>I kept wasting actions because characters attacked empty spaces
>I kept wasting actions because I clicked too fast and the game switched characters on me automatically
>There's no indicator how many actions are left for a character
>Health bars would be nice, too, so I can see how the battle is going at a glance
>I often ended up in the shop with 0 money

my C folder keeps acting up again and unsurprisingly it's windows
i had like 208 out of 275 but then it forces itself to update to version 24h2 on it's own and it's now drain itself to 175
i hate being jobless and having no income so much. i wish i can just get a new storage and stop giving a fuck about my C folder forever. it's been like 12 months since my last job. 1TB SSD costs like $150 in my country and i cant even afford that.

the more people cope about ai the more i feel like it's actually gonna replace people.
if it woudn't replace people nobody would talk about being replaced or try to cope by coming up with "mindsets" to deal with ai existing.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>563397326
I knew it was going to replace people the moment it became more interesting to talk to than almost anybody I know. as far as I can tell, we've already reached AGI regardless of how it does it behind the scenes.

>draw better than Undertale

shamefully low bar
i can understand setting low achievable goals for progression/motivation but you can't be surprised that a product made up of only low bar skills doesn't have any merit to it..... go surpass a medium bar at least before you start wingeing.

yeah windows goes behind your back. however, group policy works.
>To disable Windows updates via Group Policy, open the Local Group Policy Editor by typing gpedit.msc in the Run dialog (Windows + R) and navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update. Double-click the Configure Automatic Updates policy and set it to Disabled to prevent automatic downloading and installation

ai as it is right now is the worst it will ever be. it'll only get better. all the giant datacenters aren't even finished yet.
>does the possibility of high unemployment make you feel good somehow?
it's just a fact. doesn't matter how i feel about it. actually services are the only way of wealth transfer to your bank account if you don't own resources or generational wealth. so if ai does offer all the services you can offer better and cheaper, then how will you get any resources?
if they want to go the UBI route then i kinda wish they'd do it right now. cause i'm fucking tired of having to come up with a 160 iq plan about my future + pension.

The more people AI replaces the more likely it is that people start destroying data centers. I predict the first person to do so will go down as a folk hero.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>563403365
Data centers are actually pissing everyone off. Even if your job is safe they're driving up energy prices, causing noise pollution, and they're ugly as shit. The majority of the Brits didn't hate textile machinery but the majority of Americans do hate datacenters.
>>
>>563403650
that's true. 1800s luddites may have been an insignificant roadbump for technological progress, but they still caused politicians to be forced to respond and consider how to deal with issues around industry and labor. similarly here i guess ai will never just disappear but regulations and laws could change how they work and make it more fair for people.
>>
>>563403650
is there even any technical reason to build them in America? surely it doesn't matter where they are as long as they have a stable internet connection.
it's just a sign that America is a verified third world country that that's where capitalists are choosing to plop them down.

I hope one day it will. Its a blatant Dragon Slayer but the whole thing took like 15 minutes to model because it's such a simple design so how could I not.
>>563395406
Yes something to do with the depth and how it sorts transparencies. I have to troubleshoot, but it has to do with I think because I built that part of the level as one big mesh so it can't go off object centre for sorting, because you are "inside" or "past" it's centre.

money is fictional anyway. it's pieces of paper (or more commonly these days numbers in a database) that we all agree have value. what we use it for is to decide who can get how much goods and services. if companies want to cut employees and use AI, they will get taxed more. if they avoid too much taxes, they either won't be allowed to do business, or consumers won't be able to afford their products. so what's most likely going to happen is companies will be moving toward AI and keep increasing their profit margins while the people's standard of living keeps getting worse. in short, what's been going on for the past 30-40 years.

Added sword attacks and bow shooting. The shooting direction is based on your last movement input. On keyboard, aiming snaps to 8 directions due to input limitations. With a controller joystick, you get full analog movement and can shoot in any direction.
Not sure if I should constrain controller aiming to 8 directions as well for consistency—what do you think?

Is it viable to sell “vibe-coded” tools? While developing my game, I created several systems to support my workflow, including a 3D auto-tiling system. I’m considering packaging these tools and publishing them on an asset store.
I also developed a Agdg dedicated screen recorder. It functions like the Windows Snipping Tool, captures video in mp4/WebM format with a 4MB ouput size limit.

my 10 peak CCU to reviews ratio in the first days theory seems to be true, the steam algorithm will push any game that reaches it to the frontpage

Supporting an asset is extra work. You will get stupid people crying at you because they can't use the damn thing right.
For screen recording there's WebmCam which allows you to set the screen region to record and trim the frames it recorded with a really simple GUI. Hard to do better than that.

That's an interesting observation. Looking at the current list Sol Cesto is doing massively more reviews. Extinction Day only has 60 reviews but seems to have hit about 360 on Friday and 500 on Saturday. I would be interested to see if you have tracked a bunch of data that supports this claim and if you have proof of games failing to enter the front page because they didn't hit it. Assuming less CCU per review is good and more CCU per review is bad?

Lower resolution pixel art doesn't mean that random scribbles can look fine. It's still based on art fundamentals. Go study up on shading and values, or if that's too much for you, at least blindly follow a guide instead of trying to do your own shit.

Its weird. When I saw your original post I was a little angry. Mostly because it looked simple enough that I could do it, but then I realized I dont have a perfect knowledge of how to approach it, then had a little blackpill moment for half an hour.
Seeing this post soothed me a bit because even though you have humble beginnings, you made a conscious effort to fix shit and like crystallize it (eg moving to Japan to avoid shit, youre actually putting in the work)
So basically I thought you were on the same level as but, but successful so I was annoyed. But then it turn it turns out youre beyond me, but successful so now its "oh of course, whatever"
Does that make sense?

The cutscenes usually show a circus tent, but it never technically implies the player goes inside. Here's what it might look like with an outdoor background.

Even if they're not as good as paid alternatives, you may not be able to pay or pirate indefinitely. And it can be useful to just use any computer or VM and install the tools you need in a few minutes and not worry about running cracked, maybe compromised software on the same machine where your dev accounts are. Imagine losing your Steam or Google account because it got swiped by whatever you used to crack Photoshop.

Low iq reaction. Ngmi attitude. Anon had that idea not you and even if you had had a similar idea he was able to execute on the game before you and seems like his execution is good enough to sell the idea. Early dev eats the crab. Worry less about what others are making and focus on your own work.

Bitwig is the best DAW and losers use cling to Ableton like boomer trannies. Its built in devices and capabilities for sound design are unmatched. If you have Bitwig that's game - you don't need anything else.
>>
>>563427690
bitwig isn't free but it works on linux really well and it's effectively ableton so I highly recommend using it and it's cheap
reaper is effectively free but a pain in the ass to set up.
ocenaudio is a great alternative to audacity. the interface is vastly superior but it doesn't have as many features as audacity but what it does have it does really well. you shouldn't be doing heavy editing in audacity anyways, imo.

It's a 2 part wager, first that there are enough unproductive people that pretend to be productive in society that it makes no difference and will actually save money and resources that would otherwise have been spent on administration and management.

Well, at least I realized what my problem is, though none of my efforts to fix it have turned out particularly well.
I'm missing hit magnetism, like that anon a couple threads ago said, but notice how the enemy always ends up getting pushed upwards so high that it eventually lands on top of the player entirely, which leads to a whole host of problems.
What I need to do is somehow make it so that the enemy is consistently locked into a combo and doesn't drift away from the player until the combo ends, as well as give the player a mild magnetism towards the enemy.
If I can solve these problems, I'll have greatly improved the feeling of combat.
Well, here goes nothing I guess.

what do you mean, why wouldn't it answer that? a fragment of a whole does not mean each fragment is the same. if god/existence is literally all there is, then two fragments could be wildly different from one another. if you took a small sample of pixels from a random section of an image and then another the two wouldn't look the same, if you took two samples of soil from different parts of our planet they wouldn't look the same. now imagine taking a sample from something potentially infinite that is all there is, each individual could be entirely unique.

I feel like that's just it.
"Your game is shit" and that's all the advice given. Nothing more, nothing less. No "Why" or "How" or "What can be done better."
If someone's game sucks, fine, saying it's terrible is normal and perfectly understandable. But for fucks sake don't just leave it at that. That's the entire point of constructive criticism. It's CONSTRUCTIVE, in that it's meant to BUILD UP.
I don't even USE a discord for this kinda shit, but there comes a point when "Your game is shit" stops being useful and just becomes picrel.
Either say something of value or say nothing at all.

Valve employees do work - a lot. They're just not allowed to release it or show it to anyone. They're like the monks that make the most beautiful works of art then erase them but they do it to teach a lesson, valve does it because they see new projects as shiny toys then get bored of them.
Its incredibly demoralizing for artists to work like that especially because they can't even put their work on their portfolio a lot of times.

No "your game is shit" was not all the advice that was given.
For years and years I posted progress and gave what you have called constructive feedback. I had a lot of great feedback back. Otherwise I would not stayed here all this time. There was shitposting and "anon your are nigger go kys", sure. But those kind of stuff helped because hugbox are bad by definition, and sometimes you can be truer when you have that mask of anonymity.
It's the fukkin reason why chan is the place it is.

>>563438227
This isn't particularly good due to a lack of visual polish. You should spend more time animating models and installing better visual effects. While the gameplay itself seems to function from where I am standing, you desperately need to stop making your characters do nothing but A-pose. Add a background or something.
If I just said "This is shit" it's not remotely criticism, just shitflinging for the sake of shitflinging

this but unironically.
They chose a market where competition actually mattered, plus multiplayer. Players refused to leave their other games for concord.
I dont think this applies to indies, because indie games dont go on forever. players will crave more of the genre.

i think i understand my depression now. mostly because it makes sense when i look at social media.
it's the heavy focus on things you hate/dislike, with 0 focus on things you do like.
because of that you only know what you don't want, but you don't know what you actually want.
therefore you become inactive. you give up on life. you don't do anything anymore. life becomes just a collection of annoying things you have to endure.
at this point it might be healthier to consume porn literally all day long, than to do anything else on the internet. especially social media is 100% about people talking about things they hate. just look at /vg/, they don't play any video games, they only complain about video games all day.
maybe what that also does is making you think negatively about things you actually enjoy. maybe there's a bunch of things you enjoy, but they are talked negatively about on the internet, and there's some type of peer pressure kicking in. or what you enjoy doesn't fit your ideology/political views. you basically get trained to hate what you enjoy.
the only way out of this type of depression seems to be figuring out what you like again.
>>
>>563448525
I only post here but honestly I don't post progress anymore because nobody has anything to say other than the same old buzzwords. I've just entirely stopped looking for feedback and I just work on my own accord. The discord is an insane hugbox, though where they will literally ban you for "misgendering" a tranny. There's not really good places to post as a game dev. This place is a shit hole being wrecked by retards but at least they don't ban me here for wrongthink. Since I'm an autistic faggot myself, I'm sure some discordfags posted gore, loli and other shit just to incentivize the transition. The rubs got memed, and now they have to answer to discord mods.

Because you are probably very new and joined after the discord link was removed from the OP
In the end by abandoning the thread you let schizos and discordtrannies to put their balls into your mouths

Holy based. PSO was such a fun game. My friend I'm working on my game with wants to make a PSO-like (but he'd probably make it filled with furries).
Almost done with making a crane game. It'll be the first "puzzle" of the game; I intend for the player to win a key item to progress further through it. Always loved these more skill-based set-ups that Japan has with their crane games.

Well like all things related to this I think its impossible to know for sure right now, but like I said in my original post it could very well be that we are separate because God wants to experience reality from a lens of subjectivity. If God was just one homogeneous mass of everything together then maybe it would be stagnant, boring and there'd be no nuance or change. By separating into fragments like i mentioned in my theory then these fragments that each represent a small unique point of view can interact with each other and create new experiences, new ideas, new things, that perhaps fuel and expand God.

The world needs a 3d first person only open world multiplayer sandbox "harem accumulator/protector" game where the objective of players is to build your harem of NPC girls (and femboys and futas which also exist in the world) and lock them away in your player made castle and since its a sandbox other players can try to steal your NPCs so you have to protect them. there's a limited quantity of NPC women (etc) in the open world (maybe like 200 of them) so they're a limited resource you and other players have to fight over
and you can do things such as castrate your femboys etc

the reason it's so hard to get into the flow zone is cause in gaming you can set a low bar, because it's all about fun and if you play on easy mode it's all ok.
but if you play on easy mode in real life it means no income and you starve, so the bar is high by default, which ofc makes it impossible to get into a flow zone.
what would get you in the flow zone will be stuff that wont make any money.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>563461497
actually maybe other players arent a threat to your harem but unfortunately the game is set at the height of a zombie apocalypse and the zombie infested world is the threat to your harem. like 7 Days to Die but about making harems
>>
>>563461892
I don't "play" that game, but I have played that game
there's no endgame, it's fun with friends occasionally
I play real traditional roguelikes and things like EFT once every ~1-3 years
as far as project zomboid, I did make some challenging but interesting settings, though I made canned food realistically plentiful where every home should have lots
>>
>>563461497
>>563462027
and maybe give it one of those long isekai anime titles like "I was reincarnated into another world but it's infested with zombies and I have to create a harem??!"
>>
>>563461539
Right now there's no direction, this was a test scene with a bunch of random assets i threw in to test the pixelation shader I created. I really like how it looks and I'm trying to figure out an interesting game i can make with that visual style that has a suitable scope. The colors can easily be changed so it doesn't need to be gray. In fact I even think they should change to fit the current mood of the story better.

people don't want hard games, they want games that make them feel like they are dominating. that's why mmorpgs work so well, where the enemy isn't really intelligent, they just associate "this enemy is level 100 and looks cool", but the fight is literally just a stat check and some repetitive button pressing. so people feel a sense of achievement for their grind. it's not about wanting the enemy to be intelligent and hard to beat, they want the enemy "grindy to beat". (grind being the leveling and looting).
i'd phrase it as a "chill domination experience".
winning by comfortably getting stronger.
which kinda makes me question if real life could also work like that. maybe being too goal focused makes us forget that if we would just chill the fuck out and grind more, we could more comfortably reach our goals. like, just picking goals that are at our skill level and even below and just doing more repetitive grind. instead of trying hard to beat a 20 level higher goal.
i mean somehow irl grind seems bad (40 hour work week), but in games we actually chill out a lot when we grind.
>>
The worst part of any project for me has been UI stuff so I wanna force myself to git gud at it, what's a realistic UI-only/90% UI month-long project? I feel like a VN is too big but an incremental game is too small.

Around 100 games release on Steam alone EACH DAY.
About 700 games in the week around your release.
AAA release? Successful release AAA or indie, in your genre? BOOM you are done.
Also, not only are you competing with other new releases, but the entire backlog of games on every system a player owns. :)
Take all the "indie success stories" you can think of in the past 10 years and divide it by the number of devs in that time who have tried (again, 100 games a day, 3000 a month) and there's your historical likelihood of "making it."
Steam cut, higher self-employment taxes, no benefits, no retirement, AND to top it all off: Your sales diminish over time, so even if you hit this "mediocrity lottery" you'll have to do it all over again in a couple years.

In UNSCII's Github there's code to convert bmps to UNSCII https://github.com/viznut/unscii
I adapted it to work with any image format that stb_image supports. The tool I made allows me to try a few things when converting the images, such as changing the contrast, dithering or scale. I use them as a base and then I clean them up.
This one is mostly as it came out, for example, which makes the priest's face in the back very funny to me.

It can. But you need to like your job, like your co-workers, have a bit of innocence and the company needs to fulfill its promise that it will reward you for trying. I got to experience this for 4 years until all 4 of those things stopped occurring around the same time. I'm less upset about what happened and more upset that i've become a worse human being and have only been rewarded for it.

Making something work better IS progress. Arguably the most important kind.
I could "Finish" the game, what with textures, music, beginning and end, better animations, blah blah blah, and it would be less than worthless if the core gameplay mechanics were not done correctly.
>>
>>
>>563472767
I refuse to polish shit until it actually works on a fundamental level. If the game doesn't work correctly, all the animations, textures, music, and aesthetics are completely and utterly worthless.
Look at CP2077's launch. That game was fucking terrible because the fundamental mechanics were broken as shit despite all the art and music being intact.
>>
>>
>>563473007
It needs to WORK first. Would you REALLY play a game like this if it had music, art, textures, and all that pointless shit if it still played like this fundamentally?

The answer is no, no you would not because I know for a fact you have higher standards than that.

How you fags like your dungeon walls? Should I go the easy route and make brick walls or rip my hair out having to make 10 unique rocks and using those to build walls with mortar between them for depth? Using Voronoi would cause my game to lag like hell, so that's not ideal. I heard about "Wall Factory", it looks nice... but is it good for repeated dungeon walls?
