Super Mario Adventures, kinda.
She was a hot-head who went after Bowser when he initially threatened her people, later escaped the Kooplings' tower by herself and helped Luigi and Yoshi rescue Mario. Even when Bowser actually does kidnap her, she throws a tantrum until he has her hypnotized.
But I feel it works there due to Peach's attitude fitting the madcap tone of the comic in general and she still gets some cute moments.

I like that the Mario movies canonized the Brooklyn origin again because I'm a Dobson-tier sperg who grew up on that, but the second movie really proved we didn't really need an origin, especially since the first movie didn't do much with it besides make the Mario family look like a bunch of assholes.

Like, what was the point of the Yoshi Brooklyn montage, anyway? I thought it was going to remind us that Brooklyn exists because it might become relevant later in the movie with the inter-dimensional shenanigans, but nope. It was a cute, short scene, so I'm not mad at it, but there's a 0% chance Yoshi wouldn't have been shot to death moments after arriving in Brooklyn.

They use the references to push further advertising even on the oldfags who don't really care. The Brookyln subplot. References to Donkey Kong arcade. The Super Show rap. The Odyssey desert world and T-Rex. Mario Kart and bikes. Etc etc.
Btw I think I can generally predict what games Nintendo is setting up. With how many references to Mario Maker there are in the second movie, I presume a third one is coming soon. Same with a Starfox sequel or possibly reboot/remake of 64 for new audiences. Possibly a new Smash with Rob/Game & Watch/Pikmin all making cameos?
