Always charge it up from a distance, it has a faster fire rate but longer arming delay. So as long as you tap and hold m1 very briefly you won't lose much.
Best case scenario of living long enough to set at least two groups of sticky traps. At defense you always want to hold off a main yard and a flank path, which never changes.
At offense, things get twisted you need somewhere to retreat so my choice is setting at least one group of bombs at the mainstream paths behind you before going to the objective, so I have somewhere to retreat.
Second group depends on how well you do in the control point fight; succeed and you want to deter the same path they came from by laying another group of sticky bombs, fail and you retreat to the first group to hold flanks like you are in defense.

I tried the three groups like some anon suggested *cough* Kekli and I failed hard with it. Stick with two groups only.

Some Heavy mains will not bother experimenting, nor see any flaws about their own position.
Some youtubers however just do that for bait value because they like comments section so much. Who in their right mind would feign accepting an idea in the video but still oppose it for no good reason?

On top of my head having a lunchbox secondary have a few downsides:
