I really don't like how hard they've combined regional gimmicks and characters. Hear me out. It started being a thing around Fontaine (pneuma stuff) but it was fairly inconsequential. Characters still played as normal. Things got way worse in Natlan. Suddenly it's

Reminder early beta requires you to use 3 Nod Krai characters in a team to fully activate gimmick. Funny thing is - right now you still want to run 3 of them most of the time and maybe initial version could be better, because it would force them to be more creative than simply "slap Bineffa as a wheelchair".
I get your sentiment, but let's be real - elemental reactions were worthless since Fontaine outside of your usual suspects and they clearly had no idea how to approach this issue. Characters like Chev make me realize, probably locking teams to specific elemental combination is the only way to make them relevant and better balance things (which at higher echelon was kinda working for a while until they decided to make Varka garbage and push Linnea to break Zibai).
Take it with a grain of salt, but someone I know got information that supposedly Snezhnayan gimmick isn't even its own, but became new variation after they decided to scrap lunar freeze. Really doubt they will scrap NK formula now.
Pairing thing is also double edged sword for them I think. If someone isn't sure about specific character but don't like its pairing, then obviously both of them will be skipped in the end. And don't even let me start about bosses gimmicks with even more discourage of chasing new shining toys. Why should I pull the trigger now, when risk of said team going into dumpster in few months is so high? Make one team in the region and keep saving for new one.

Yeah you can definitely tell they don't want to trigger the few Aetherpags that still latch onto Ei and the Eimiko cult which is why her interactions are always so limited and awkward. Which is even funnier considering the Traveler isn't all that crazy about hanging out with Ei and only really does it if Miko/Mizuki makes them do it so the interactions just feel so forced to me. Compare the way the Traveler talks to Ei with how they talk to someone like Venti or Nahida.
I think Inazuma is just doomed to be in constant limbo with no potential interesting plotpoints whatsoever. At least not anytime soon.

This is my biggest problem with the game and honestly a reason I am considering dropping it. They have nothing to lose by writing meaningful interactions because if they are playing it safe already then they’ve still managed to write shitty stores and piss people off. Neuv not talking to Ajaw or Zhong and Raiden not talking to any of her subjects are bad writing choices. I can’t stay invested if the characters stay so passive and avoidant of what the players want to see. Conflict and uncomfortable moments for characters is essential in any story and no I don’t count random one time NPCs who exist only to be evil obstacles in a SA as genuine causers of tension.

Barely any character in genshin impact is an actual character. Most of them are just glorified cardboards with jokes for a backstory. Look at most of them: barely any interesting traits, no personal story, barely any conflict between them and someone else to drive something, barely any growth or change through their lives, most sq's are npc slop. Most of them don't even have actual personalities, to the point where writers just give them one singular gimmick/hobby that they abuse whenever they appear again for their annual cameo in some filler slop event. They have shipslop bait instead of actual writing after their release because if they didn't people would forget who they are and what their unique trait is because they simply don't have any.
How is it even possible to care for these characters when they are basically the same shit with different design?

Ironically the easiest AQs to get through was the most recent one because it focused on the other characters so much that the auto-advance text actually does its function without Traveler's dialogue "options" there to make you hit a button.

C1 Siggy is underrated as fuck
She becomes a legit off-field hydro applier and team buffer at that point, that's on top of having the best healing in the game and a very comfy crowd control by trapping enemies inside her bubbles

Bigger ensemble casts are generally forced to make everyone some sort of a gimmick character. Generally they are about 1 or 2 things, and are some sort of extreme so that they can all be notable and recognizable for something in particular. Lots of media do this, more than you expect if you're looking for it.
The lack of interaction and growth is a Genshin problem though.

That's the result of negative character development here because homoverse needs everyone to fit the mundane and regular quota which makes them lose whatever unique trait they had. I blame the devs' obsession with humanity for this. They aim to make every character as human-like and relatable as possible forgetting that it's a fantasy setting. For example, why would a supernatural being need to live in a human society and have a job like a human in the first place?
