The vast majority of the fandom, even those that are not invested in Sonamy, are expecting Sonic and Amy to become a couple in the movie because of how popular the ship is. You say that but the movie writers confirmed they have aot of the same mandates as IDW. Sonic can't have blood relatives, must be an alien, can't ask for help, and can't use the Master Emerald. All of those were Sega mandates. Shadow was also heavily mandated.

A good example of this is the Mimic/Whisper subplot in the comics, which he left to Evan due to self-admitting to having no idea how to actually end it.
