Sonic 06 could've been good if Sega had given Sonic Team more time to develop the game. Sure, the story needs a few changes but the character models were new and cool, the soundtrack wa solid, and the environments were detailed and beautiful.
If 06 had been good, future Sonic games would've retained the multiple playable characters formula and serious story tone. The meta era and current brand era would've never happened. 06 being trash was the worst tragedy for the franchise because of what it lead to eventually

Sega based half of the Crossworlds' Season Pass on Paramount properties, probably expecting some big cross-promotional sinergy, and while they got that with the Spongebob movie, TMNT Mutant Mayhem 2 has been delayed to 2027, and Avatar got pulled out of cinemas and now even leaked by mistake by Paramount itself. The Rush games portray Blaze as her world's answer to Sonic. Sonic & Blaze are the only playable characters that fight the Eggmen, collect the 7 Emeralds, and have the super/burning transformation in the final boss.

So that creates the expectation that Blaze the Cat is a Sonic-tier character who scales to him and has his level of importance and capability, but with a Sally-like personality built from blending Tails, Amy & Knuckles together into one total "Nega-Sonic" persona.

Of course, Blaze's lack of significant appearances anywhere else causes this fundamental role she's designed for to not have much of a presence anywhere else. But honestly, that's no different from many other characters in the franchise whose debut game(s) are where they shine the brightest, only for later games to completely squander that potential.

Every character in this franchise is a potential man. Including Sonic himself.

That’s not her ordering him around, that’s her telling him to get a move on. The scene right before this had them agree that killing Sonic was their only option (which Silver decided on) but Silver could still sense problems with it. His entire story is driven by HIS decisions and what HE decides to do. Other characters offer him guidance and options but he still chooses the options. Blaze provides council but still spends the whole story following him. The only choice she makes is taking on Iblis when she realizes that she’s a compatible vessel and right after that Silver refuses to do what she says and seal her away. You act like Blaze decides their every action when Silver consistently initiates everything and Blaze follows and grounds him.

How "opposite to Sonic" is interpreted differs in certain aspects, but the fundamental baseline is theoretically the same. You're confusing design intent with justification for existence. Cream exists at all because they needed a fly type for Amy's group. The idea that her role was to be like tails is to sonic on a narrative level is something you made up. Cream spends most of her in game existence alone, even in heros where she and big spend more time thinking about their pets than engaging with meaningful conversations with Amy. And it ends with Amy ditching them to chase sonic and since then any time cream was with Amy it's because Amy is forcing her into some bullshit.

Cream is Girl Tails.

In my opinion, keeping her focus as "Amy's sidekick" is better, because otherwise, you'd end up using her to outright replace both Amy and Cream simultaneously. Like pairing her with Shadow, is just that.

You want Shadow to have his own Tails, but you also want the Shadow and Maria dynamic. So it's like putting Cream into roles that would otherwise go to Tails while also portraying Cream's personality in ways that would otherwise just be Amy.

That is a complete lie that the fandom made up, Shadow has no significant opinion on Tails one way or the other. Any time Shadow fought Tails, it was simply because he was in the way of Shadow's goal or whatever. Shadow has a pragmatic "for the sake of the mission" personality. If he had to reach a specific destination, but a baby or a puppy was in the way and the only way through was to kill them, Shadow would do it without a second thought unless someone like Maria stopped him.

I feel like this is constantly being forgotten about Tails, no different than defaulting to Cream when someone can't make the connection that Amy is sweet and pure of heart.

It feels like a triangle between Tails, Amy & Cream. Tails is the kid character, Amy is the girl character, Cream is the kid + girl character that doubles up the "cuteness" or whatever in the way only a little sister can. But sometimes, it feels like among the fandom, she's often used to overshadow Tails & Amy entirely as well.

So it's weird when people feel threatened by her existence because she's such a separate entity within the canon, role wise. Sonic is the main lead, tails is the primary support, Amy is the love interest and you have any flavor of rival for sonic of the week, and the rivals mirrors to the primarys secondaries, shadow has his primary love interest, his support (albeit not as well fleshed out). If you had only half a brain you'd say "ok well then I obviously cream occupys the role of the love interest friend" but she doesn't do that, because that role is a third level support who exists to support the love interests goal, if Cream was Amy's tails her role would be to assist Amy get to sonic or act as an emotional sponge to soak up Amy's leftover feelings when she's spurned, but the thing is that character type needs to also be kept away from the main character to avoid a conflict of interest, either as a love rival or a sympathizer to the leads wishes. Cream doesn't do that either, she's just around, having adventures on her own or with whoever else happens to be around. Child adventurer boom

He can do a lot of it alone so tails actual contributions are either minor (some gadget that helps sonic be cooler) or incidental, like arrive in time to pull a level to free sonic from a trap that he got stuck in literally just to give tails something to do. Cream, on the other hand, has the opposite problem where nobody wants to give her the chance to do anything because they're worried about her, so when she does anything it's usually in spite of everyone else trying to stop her because she cannot be stopped if her cause is noble and just because she's a tiny sonic

Buddy by this logic you literally don't need any character other than Sonic. You're one step removed from the "shitty friends" argument. Sonic goes out of his way to have adventures with Tails because they complement each other perfectly and together they're unbeatable, it's the "Unbreakable Bond" thing. Tails not only can replicate Sonic's speed to an extent but he also can rival Eggman in intellect making him a bridge between the natural and artificial which makes him very much useful

Cream doesn't have that symbolism or character because she doesn't really have much going on beyond being "little girl"

...That's not at all how I envision my Cream analog character.

It'd be more accurate to say that she's more like blending Sage into Cream, to heighten the contrast with Amy _and_ comparison to Tails, on the surface. The way I construct the character, she IS "insecure" in her own way, not not hopeless or feeble. She's the kind of person whose insecurity is expressed through aggression and acting tough, but that's hidden behind an icy cold, emotionless AI-like facade. Because really, she's inspired by Shiro from No Game No Life combined with Natsuki from Doki Doki Literature Club, which then leads to me drawing heavily from Shoto Todoroki for what her home life is actually like and how it's shaped her.

Having her represent the "negative traits" is what I plan to do in some way, in the beginning at least, but not like that. The general idea I have for the both of them is that they essentially start off like ... Sora & Shiro from No Game No Life, as shut-ins hiding away from the outside world, until the Sonic analog suddenly shows up at their bedroom window. The Tails character follows "Sonic" outside, but the Cream analog stays behind. Which later on gets interpreted as "he left me behind", because certain major plot events that happen after this cause her own home life to become extremely terrible or something, and she blames it all on him. So when they cross paths again, and she has a Cheese analog that's secretly the Chaos analog in disguise, she picks a fight with him. But the only one who'd be able to break through to her has to be the Amy analog, not the Tails.

Absolutely not, 'cause the Tails analog himself still has to learn to be brave himself, first.

Being the Cream analog means she's the "Girl-" equivalent to his Tails role. So if I classify him as a "player avatar" meta-role in the narrative, she has to fulfill a variation of that same role but from a different perspective. So, her own character arc and evolution must mirror his. I don't want to make her look weak to make him look cooler, 'cause that's stupid. They are both in the same relative position.

Tails' own character role does necessitate he be in a league of his own, but that's hard to balance with the entire cast needing to be able to keep up with Sonic in different ways as well. Cream only really needs to keep up with Amy, but Amy is AMY who automatically has to keep up with Sonic just as much as Tails does if Amy has any capability at all, and so Cream's own role being tied to Amy + Tails causes the "keep up with Sonic" trait to pass onto her as well.

If Tails can do it, and Amy can do it, Cream must also be able to do it.

She absolutely is Girl Tails. The only reason she's in Rush with Blaze is specifically because of this. She was created for Heroes, to be this for Amy, and included in Advance 2 prior to Heroes' release with the nigh-exact gameplay functionality as Tails. The whole appeal of her character is a cute little sister figure, which is literally the female version of Tails' role as the little brother figure.

But Cream doesn't have Tails' insecurity or Amy's romantic motivation, and her contrast to Amy is being more cool-headed than Amy is, which is the same way Sonic contrasts Amy. Thus, Cream -is- comparable to Sonic in some ways due to being tied to Tails & Amy on a conceptual level just as Sonic is. But Cream's own meta role is "Girl Tails". But somethings go in circles when you base something on something else that itself is based on another thing, the twists and turns will take you in a loop sometimes.

I don't get sparkles obsession with tying characters to other characters like for tails it's a given, his entire being revolves around sonic, so does Amy, but characters like knuckles, cream, shadow, silver, blaze etc sorta float around doing their own thing. Sure they interact with sonic, and their friends, have unique chemistry with him but that's by nature of them interacting. Cream is especially vexing for him it feels like because her strongest ties are wholly removed from sonic, being that her strongest ties are to her mom, and cheese, her immediate family, like big is with froggy. Big and cream sit outside the sonic paradigm.

Each of these characters were designed to fill a role towards someone else.

Cream is designed to be Amy's Tails, and Cream on her own is extremely "Girl Tails" 100% by concept of being the "little sister" archetype, whose main ability outside of Cheese is flying.

Knuckles is 'Sonic's Rival', and Blaze is the polar-opposite of Sonic and her world's answer to Sonic with her own set of Emeralds.
Shadow and Silver are Dark & Light Sonic.

Characters who aren't specifically designed around another in this kind of way are the Chaotix and Big. But even then, I suspect Espio might have been "____-Knuckles" in some way during his conceptualization, and Big is a slow-paced lazy Sonic where he's just as free and in-tune with nature but isn't action/speed oriented.

I feel like whenever I say stuff like this, you're assuming I'm not recognizing the individuality of the characters or whatever...? But that's not the case. I don't really get where stuff like

Is coming from. These characters weren't made in a vacuum. Not even Sonic was. Sonic is Cool-Mickey, designed to be a cooler mascot that could rival Mario and be SEGA's mascot and whatever else, drawing heavy inspiration from Felix the Cat and other 1920s rubberhose toons and the like. Sonic on his own is largely just Mickey Mouse if he never lost his original traits, and instead was amplified into a cooler, edgier version where the mischievousness is upgraded into free-spirited rebellion. And Eggman is like an Evil-Disney, hence his theme park obsession and showmanship.

Tails and Amy are the nega-equivalents to each other, they are polar opposites in the same relative position just like Sonic & Blaze.

Also tails isn't kid sonic, that implies tails wants to be like sonic, he doesn't in any meaningful way, he wants to parallel sonic in his own way, he's robin, not batman beyond. To be realized is to be fundamentally different but complimentary to sonic the same way Nightwing is to batman.

Tails IS Kid Sonic, and he specifically DOES want to be like Sonic, that is literally his origin story. He starts following Sonic so he can be like him, his theme song emphasizes that's what he wants. Tails is Kid Sonic, the "Robin" of the series, Nightwing being the future potential Tails can grow into beyond that.

Tails is the Kid Flash to Sonic's Flash, the Simon to Sonic's Kamina.

Not really, because Cream being Amy's Tails doesn't have to be so hyper literal in matching every single trait.

Amy & Cream have their own dynamic where Cream is like Amy's "mediator", where Cream is more cool-headed and Amy is more hot-headed. This is an inversion of Sonic & Tails where Sonic is cool-headed and Tails is more emotional/sensitive by contrast.

Jet is a legitimate rival for Sonic and has his own natural advantage, he's not solely reliant on the board as an external thing. His mastery of the board is part of his own innate abilities, and it's centered around "riding the wind" in a literal way. Because he's a bird. Hence the story of Sonic Riders having Jet literally specify having wings as what separates him from Sonic, but Sonic later going "even without wings, I can still fly!"

I feel like everyone misses all of this, by thinking Jet is just some guy on a board, and completely powerless otherwise, which isn't accurate.

Team Rose absolutely is "buddy buddy" with each other because that's what their personalities are.

Amy and Cream are sweet and nice pure hearted girls who befriend everyone and are super kind and compassionate and friendly by nature, they just express it through different lenses. And Big is a very peaceful and friendly guy who gets along well with everyone 'cause he's chill.

What drew them together is their individual pursuits, and so they teamed up and became just as motivated to help each other as well because that's who they are. For Amy, it's just her SA1 story again where she dedicates everything to helping someone else reunite with their loved ones. And Cream cared about Amy's pursuit of Sonic, and supported her in that endeavor, and vise-versa.

Team Dark is the team where the focus is "no, we are NOT friends, we are only working together for our own selfish interests", so any sense of genuine friendship is meant to be very subtle and only hinted at. But for some reason, everyone seems to believe Team Dark are even closer friends than the other teams to the point of being a family...???

No. Shadow is equal to Sonic's speed in every regard.

Blaze & Jet would be fighting TAILS for second place, as the one whose not -equal- to Sonic's speed outright like Shadow is, but is fully capable of keeping up or even outpacing him otherwise through their own abilities. Jet racing Sonic in Riders is no different than Tails racing Sonic in SA1, and Blaze was never a direct copy of Sonic's speed in the first place.

Blaze to Sonic should feel like... Shinra from Fire Force going up against The Flash. What makes Blaze fast is propelling herself with bursts of flame, while Sonic is just inherently accelerated as a being.

Even IDW know amy and cream have fuckall to do with each other. They get two meaningful-ish interactions and one is shared with rouge the fat baps and the other is a single panel during the fucking apocalypse. Cream got way more with other people its actually kinda nuts, even in their threeway with rouge her interactions with rouge were more fun than anything they said to each other, during the metal virus it was cream admiting her sense of hope comes from sonic (not amy), the one-shot cream had was about her and gemerl i dont think amy's name came up ONCE the entire issue, then Cream has a baller heart to heart with whisper that lasts like 4 pages, she gets rescued during the virus arc firstly by sonic and that whole bit was a Cream glaze by showing she's like sonic more than anyone else, and then after all thats over the next time you see her she's hanging out with Blaze.

Oh yeah i guess she does that winter event thing with Amy where they barely talk at all. You know why this happens? Because Amy isn't allowed to talk about Sonic like she used to, which was were ALL of amy and creams interactions come from, Amy saying or doing some wild shit for sonic and Cream reacting to her shenannigans. Thats all they have going for them, remove that and they have literally nothing but being nice to each other left.

Jet, it's arguable because of his position and the fact he holds claim to "the fastest" as the thing he fights Sonic over, but he's not a copy of Sonic either.

But Blaze has never been equal to Sonic's speed to Shadow degrees. She is slower than Sonic, in Sonic Rush. Blaze is not a copy of Sonic in abilities, she has a completely different powerset and her overall power level is what equals Sonic, not her "speed".

She is the "Girl character", and specifically the "Girl version" of SONIC. Amy's likes and interests and style is defined by being the girl character, and what makes her unique is sharing Sonic's likes and interests and style filtered through that lens.

Beyond that, it's just Rouge who is another Girl Sonic, through being the polar opposite of Knuckles.
