Given the new snippet of information we've gotten from the Intervallo, and adding it to what we know from the Canto, here's my theory for what happened to Valencina.
>Smoke War is happening, Valencina is fighting in it
>Does an incredible job, war hero, gets promoted by the family to Sottocapo.
>Either of out stupidity or arrogance or both, probably has a huge fuck up within days of getting promoted that involves getting the vast majority of forces under her command get wiped out. Probably a ton of soldatos and a handful of capos too.
>Instantly demoted, not just for losing so many subordinates right after being promoted but that she lost them in a completely retarded manner.
>Valencina throws herself into the fray, battlefield after battlefield, hoping that maybe by making new accomplishments in the Smoke War she can make amends for her previous fuck up in the war.
>War ends, high ranking Thumb lady comes and tells her that her new war accomplishments don't count for shit, if she wants to redeem herself and get out of the HoS, better make sure the Arayashiki plan works
Will probably need to wait for the Valencina ID to actually come out to see what happened and how much of this theory is right or wrong.

So what exactly does/doesnt count for "negative effects"? Obviously the standard set of bleed/burn/etc counts, but does mauled color rouge count? Does faint aroma from Scentshu? Blue sand from udjatis?

My thinking was that the timeline goes something like this.
>Smoke War starts
>Valencina does well, gets promoted, than fucks up.
>House of Spiders plan starts up.
>A few years go by as Ryoshu grows.
>Smoke War is still ongoing, Thumb family baits Valencina with the hope of redeeming herself if she performs well after returning to the frontlines.
Granted, this theory relies on the idea that the Smoke War lasts for a number of years.

It definitely lasted a few years by its nature, but I feel like Valencina was ALREADY disgraced, went to the House of Spiders, Smoke War starts up, uses that to get favor and fame back and becomes a Sottocapo, and then eats shit even harder and never returns to that high.

I mainly think she only became a Sottocapo for 3 days after/near the end of the Smoke War BECAUSE we know she got her "you are a fucking disgrace" talk from a Consigliere of the Thumb, and Ryoshu specifically mentions one of them visited one day and Valencina immediately became depressed and abusive again. So I think Valencina was double disgraced, and the second one was the very final straw.

Y'know, I was looking at the Ruina Thumb sprites, and noticed she's carrying grenades? I thought thrown explosives were taboo? Unless the Taboo was only created between Ruina and now.
As for rank, al the Kalolet's uniforms are identical, the only different is that Kalo¿s coat has golden epaulets (the shoulder thingies on military uniforms)

Both Kalo and lei heng have sleve clips and since lei hengs matches, his rank that would mean Kalo would be sotto capo 3.
And the same goes for all his capos.
I assume like rank 3 is basically being a veteran or roughly as good as you can usually get, while 4 is like above and beyond expectations/pay grade for people like lei heng or guys who are strong/experienced enough to go up a rank but decline.
While 1 and 2 are more signs of inexperience/just good enough to hold their position

I think the decision to make Valencia recruited into the HoS before the smoke war ended was a retarded one it makes the pacing so much messier.

Meursault's uptie reveals he has to hide the truth of his sword. Some of his lines are about the more expensive rounds (likely the black ones) that he can't use.
This means Lei Heng is a Capo because he is holding back to keep his cover. He has more power because of the Pinky skills/equipment but he will be exposed if a superior sees that. So basically he has to act by the book and fight solely on Thumb skills and equipment. And he has been rising through the ranks with that alone.
