havent played in years, how's the game right now? last i remember was boosting multiple characters during a fresh start event and spamming some kind of dungeon? it was basically a bridge or something the party clumped together while we waited for waves of mobs to spawn

i remember when this game first came out and /vg/ generals were thriving, there was a lot of thinly veiled erp too and something about a couple of guys fagging it up on discord involving a spider. maybe i'm mixing the spider thing with maplestory2 but i don't think so, ms2 had other drama involving a guy named rusianinja or something

The best time to play the game was that test. You missed out big time.
I was on iCBT1 too but it only lasted like, one week, right? The only thing I remember from back then was that it still had the og style chat window where the head of your character was displayed next to every message. The private server guys say that, even though that was removed, your character's head info was still sent with every chat packet.

I'm curious, what was the story of the game?
Last time played in around 2017. I remember the stellar OST, big booba NPC portraits and nothing else.
What tree is mentioned in the game's title? What was that crimson goddess trying to achieve? What is the player's role in the story?
inb4 the standard anime=ish "le goddesses were evil and demons were the good guys all along"inb4 2.0 maybe the real tree of savior were the friends we made along the way

Goddesses are good, and demons are actually evil, except one goddess turned fallen angel and became the leader of the demons. One of the good goddesses summoned a bunch of random people to be players, since having a huge crowd of them makes it impossible for the demons to tell who the chosen hero is. >>2196997 depicts the fallen angel on top and summoner below her.
Once the players were summoned, they just dressed like sluts, ERP'd, and killed everything until everyone forgot what the story was.

It's kind of sad how this MMO really didn't have the best optimal version where everyone was happy with the classes because the devs kept removing all the fun stuff in the guise of "balancing"
Every balance patch just hurt my soul and my desire to play which made me quit completely back in 2018.

Seeds of Yggdrasil is the only pserver, retail is definitely not alive.
The pserver has some custom changes that make the game feel better though, a lot more difficult and meaningful, rather than the easy leveling retail has become. As well, it uses the old rank system, rather than the rebirth pick 3 type, though it's aiming to do a lot of balancing. Definitely recommend it more. It's small still but it's very early, and there's still enough people to do stuff with.

NTA, but decided to give Onions (that acronym...) a shot thanks to your suggestion. Haven't played Tree of Savior in close to a decade, so this may as well have been a fresh experience for me.
Pretty fun so far, albeit somewhat jank. Weird stuttering, certain NPC's heads not loading in correctly, seemingly being stuck sprinting with no way to just run normally (and thus moving at a crawl whenever the Stamina gauge runs out), etc. Did feel nice being able to just spam Barrage with impunity, at least, rather than needing to wait on cooldowns all the time.
Do we have a Guild set up already, or is it just a couple of Anon giving the server a shot? Wouldn't be against giving this one a go for a couple of weeks, with some lads to banter with in-game.

Jej, got caught by the wordfilter. Should've just typed the server's entire name out rather than relying on shorthand, whoops.
Guess I'll add: Any class/path recommendations for a newblood? Usually play healers/supports in other MMOs, and vaguely recall my time playing a Priest/Chaplain(?) during one of the beta periods. Was fun(ish) going around bonking things until the mid-to-late 100s, once the raw +Attack bonus from Blessing and Sacrament started to fall off in effectiveness.

This server is very in fresh and doesn't have things like guilds set up, but since it uses the base of tos, it's generally pretty set up. The biggest quirk of the server is that all equipment is scaled down, with 120 being the max level to equip gear. Despite that, all the endgame stuff is largely gated until you're around 250, which is technically the level cap. You'll hit rank 10 around then. Grinding is king, quests give basically nothing but mobs will give tons in comparison.
Really anything but swordie. Anyone I've played with so far has said that swordie feels like utter dogshit to play, being really weak and unable to live with how the server is handling game balance at the moment. They're kind of right honestly, I have been more or less letting swordies leech from me. So, if you wanna play sword, keep it as an alt until you have a character or two to gear it.
Mage and Archer are really strong. Mage goes pyromancer and anything after that is just a bonus, it really carries your damage until you're rank 10. Archer having Wugushi is a must, and you would be best off building ranger before that. The poisons spread to everything, you end up soloing maps while running away. It's honestly really boring but it's worked out for me so far.
No one in the server is really playing cleric at the moment, so honestly, if you wanna play that, you'd be special. I am an archer with the special hair and a school uniform, you should see me. Say hi if you do.

Appreciate the insight, m8.
Have a history inMaplestory, so I should take to the grind decently well.
Your stance also answers the unwritten question of how valuable sidequests really are. Have been breezing through the main story so far, as it looks like I've already outleveled most of the sidequests for the first few zones anyway. Guessing you don't typically horde EXP Cards to get past certain level ranges these days either.
Great to hear the server isn't swarming with Clerics just yet, will rev one up tonight.
Is the standard (3?)-Cleric/3-Priest/1-Chaplain/3-Plague Doctor setup decent here, or do (You) think a wildcard pick like Monk or Paladin or whatever is secretly meta?
Keen on being a good healer/support, although I vaguely recall a point in time on the official client where I went too heavy on support circles, and could barely damage anything on my own. Was something like 3Cleric/3Priest/Oracle/Kabbalist. Loads of supportive options (everyone loved Arcane Energy and Ein Sof back then), but good lord, actually playing it felt like the biggest chore.Seeing enemy DPS annihilate themselves on a Revenged Sevenfold-enhanced ally during Guild Battles was fun at least, even if that mode was a total joke in general.
Also noted on your suggestions for Mage/Archer. Wasn't anticipating Wugushi as such a notable pick, but I suppose with Flecher being in an unfinished state (and Wugu's poison-spread actually sounding impactful this time around), that'd be the obvious follow-up for 1-Archer -> 3-Ranger.
Linker -> Chronomancer sounds fun as well, although I'd need to read-up on whether it's as effective here as I remember it being on live back in the day.
Regardless, lots of valuable information in your post for sure. I'll keep an eye out for (You)!

After a few nights on Seeds, I can confidently say without any doubt: Archer is by far the way to go for a starting character. Absurd room-clear which no other Class can match, at least in the early goings.
Still keeping my Cleric as a support for parties, and will potentially experiment with Sadhu shenanigans later on. Relative to the damage others put out, Blessing and Sacrament don't feel as impactful as they did on the original client back in the day, but free damage is still damage. Plus it's interesting to see what server-specific changes have been made to Cleric's later circles (Oracle's <Resetting> having two charges on it instead of just one, for example), and plentiful Stat/Skill/Class Resets make experimenting with setups a breeze.
Will admit to being pretty lost in how best to gear-up, however.
With next to nothing being sold on the Marketplace due to the tiny size of this server's playerbase, decent amounts of Silver being annoyingly tough to come by, and the lack of a server-relevant database for the title to research, I've just been spinning my wheels with super sub-par equipment for a while now.
Archer->Ranger->Wugushi is a complete monster with proper gear, no question; and there's also no denying the random, largely stat-less Level 40 trash I've been wearing has reached the end of its usefulness.
The jump in expected damage going from Royal Mausoleum to Bees (the supposed progression path on Seeds from what I've been told) is HUGE, and I just don't know where to go to get that kind of increase, or what to farm in the interim. Any ideas?

Found the trick!
Turns out the blacksmith in Seeds' version of Klaipeda sells much, MUCH better weaponry than he ever did on the official client. Snagged the top-end Dunkel Bow (or whatever it was called) for a cheap ~38k Silver. Nothing game-breaking, but certainly one hell of an upgrade over the Level 40 Tenent Bow I was using before.(Shame I wasn't made aware of this guy 'til after I blew ~84k on a bow in Fedimian)...
With some additional enhancement levels to the Bow, plus a few minor improvements to Wugushi's attributes, I was able to tackle the Bee Farm decently well. Still not on the same level as what I've seen in the past, but able to keep a respectable-enough rotation between Wugong Gu, Poison Pot, Wide Miasma, and Jincan Gu for flavor (although I'm fairly sure Jincan Gu is bugged and deals virtually no damage, much like nearly all other summons on this server at the moment).
Wugushi's C3 skill, Crescendo Bane, is definitely interesting on Seeds.
Rather than enhance ongoing poison ticks, it instead detonates all existing poison DoTs in a very large area for /obscene/ damage... At the cost of wiping all lingering poison DoTs applied by you across all monsters, map-wide. Probably not an issue if you're up against mobs which don't innately resist poison-type damage, but Bees are one such case; and Crescendo Bane can and WILL miss as a result, leaving you scrambling to re-apply Wugong Gu against enemies which frequently evade poison-type attacks.
Not sure how to feel about it yet, honestly. Its damage is insane for sure (even leading to some noticeable Overkill bonuses against low-health Bees), but Wugu's entire shtick is killing things from half a map away with their DoTs, so using Bane on targets which can resist poison (and thus resist Bane) doesn't seem like a great prospect.
Will have to dabble with it more in other areas down the line - Demon Prison perhaps.

Progression has certainly been interesting to witness on Seeds thus far.
Stats scale exponentially on this server, with small improvements quickly turning into very visible upgrades the more of a given stat you have. +8 CON only grants a couple hundred HP if you hardly have any of it, and thousands later on, for example.
This means that gear bearing raw +Stat improvements (armorsets like Bone, Shade, Vine, etc) are even more important to farm-out than they were on the official client from way back when, for better or worse.
Monster HP is absurdly bloated compared to the original, but it does (mostly) work when taking this exponential stat growth into account, operating under the assumption that the player will spend time getting necessary upgrades to keep pace.
Although as Seeds' development is still very much in-progress, this stat shuffling does lead to some odd situations, such as Bullet Marker's unlock quest being damn-near impossible without constant access to stealth, as shown here. Burn a free Class Reset and switch to Scout for self-stealth, or bring a C3 Cleric along for the ride for party-wide <Fade> whilst on this quest.
>>2261204
To my knowledge, no. Monster EXP has been redistributed to allow for a pretty quick rise through the Circles, however, at least if you're fighting the right things with the right classes.
Been on the private server for just under a single week though, so I'm still largely unaware of its history. Only thing I've gleamed is IMC shutting down Seeds' initial Discord channel prior to its newest incarnation spinning-up, which necessitated keeping a lower profile on this most-recent version of the server. Who's to say how long it'll last, granted.
>>2261235
The download for Seeds can be found on Ragezone, but account creation is annoyingly tied to joining the server's >Discord, yes.
Not something I'm a fan of personally, and I don't blame others for not wanting to hop in because of it, but it can't be helped in this instance.
>>
>>2261283
Really wanna play Seeds but the launcher had chrome, defender and 5 AVs on virustotal screaming that this shit was harmful. Obviously I'm used to false positives, but usually false positives don't have everything on my computer yelling at me. It's been a few months so I came here to see what's going on. Seems about as dead and hopeless as last time, but I hope you've all been well in the meantime.
So, what happened to the Papaya server? Did people give up on it when they showed their Pay2Win side and go back to Steam version? Anybody plays there at all?
>>2261283
>Onions
I tried it briefly and it was okay. Better than retail, but it had so many issues that were almost as bad. The scaling was way too crazy, with common monsters having millions of HP before I even reached level 100. It was fun to time travel to vanilla ToS but I think I'll just hold out until Melia is playable.

Man. Is there anything more satisfying than yanking an entire pack of monsters together, and watching an absolute waterfall of numbers erupt off the top of the screen?
Been toying around with Wizard's supportive Circles, as I loved playing Linker/Chrono back in Ye Olden Days of 2016/2017. There's plenty which has changed for Seeds, and some which 'aught to do with even more changing relative to its current state.
Linker still looks to be in a very solid spot. Joint Penalty and Hangman's Knot are just as fantastic as they've always been, although re-linking targets is a bit clunkier than before, due to needing to cast Unbind before previously-linked targets will accept a fresh one.
Spiritual Chain still shares class-specific buffs at their full durations across the entire party (assuming those party members are in range prior to your link breaking from distance), which can get pretty bonkers when sharing things like Wizard's Magic Shield or Pyro's Enchant Fire.
Lifeline doesn't appear to have its scaling accounted for correctly on this server, however, so going full C3 on Linker isn't worth it at the moment.
Chrono is... A bit underwhelming, unfortunately.
Haste is still amazing, but Quicken is only relevant for its +75 Critical Rate attribute rather than the effects of the spell itself (normal attack builds aren't a thing on Seeds, so Attack Speed isn't very desirable). Slow and Stop are both highly niche spells as well.
C3 Chrono seems quite unnecessary in its current state. Pass only knocks 25-30 seconds off nearby allies' cooldowns, and Backmasking appears to be largely non-functional (very likely bugged).
C3 Cryo / C2 Linker / C2 Chrono feels like a good base for any aspiring support Wizards on Seeds. Great lockdown and crowd-control, with room to potentially get another C3 (Enchanter?) down the line.

Thanks for remebering us. I'm in touch with some of the guys from back then, and I ran into a handful of others while playing on ragnav. A lot of the old /tosg/ Anons are still around in different games, sometimes under different names.
In 2023 there was a fresh new official server and I was there, I even remade Futureproof and we had veterans and new people join. It lasted only a few months but I managed to get a lot of PvP time in this time. Not just Team Battle League but also GvG and even field PKs.Someone had to go and remind people why the Neutrality box exists lmao we got a few wars in before everyone else got smart.Back on Steam version I could never get high up in the rankings because the balance was shit, but on PapayaToS swordsmen had actual human rights so I managed to get #1 for several weeks, and basically top 10 for the entire time I played.Tree of Savior is a PvP game, no matter what people say or how much the developer looks down on us.

Didn't have much time to spare today, so I just ended up farming out a quick Zach Bracelet (one of an eventual pair), and tested an odd change regarding Seeds' version of Wugushi.
Apparently, according to the late 2025-era changelog(which is sadly no longer updated, rip), Wugu's main poison source - Wugong Gu - scales its duration with /INT/, of all things.
Can indeed confirm such notions through some quick fieldwork. My current stat-spread of around ~150 STR/DEX initially applies Wugong Gu with about 10 seconds of duration, with further infected targets suffering ~18 seconds of runtime thereafter. Changing those stats to 150 INT/DEX, however, turns the secondhand infection-spread duration up to about ~22-23 seconds... At the cost of /considerably/ lessened damage.
It's very obvious that Wugu's output still scales off both STR and DEX, as expected, and I wouldn't advise respeccing into an INT archer just for a few extra, much weaker poison ticks.
Enjoying my time with Seeds, and there's still plenty for me to learn, yet I can't help but feel these random little tertiary stat bonuses on various skills (DEX improving Priest's Monstrance, INT increasing Wugu's poison duration, etc), are simply too detrimental to go after, due to stat growth being exponential on this server.
Spending 50 Stat Points to bump a lowly tertiary offensive stat up, rather than spending those 50 points towards a converted +5 of your main damage stat, has pretty big ramifications and often results in a net loss overall from what I've seen.
Cool idea, but clearly still needs work. Much like a lot of the server at the moment, to be fair.
