I've been playing nothing but Knesebeck for the past 3 days. I even like it more than the tier 10 simply because it looks better.

Understandable but I already get bored playing pan-america BBs, I think valpa is just too training wheels to be enjoyable. Personally I feel Rhode Island is wildly overrated. It's not bad, but I don't think its worth the huge price tag.
>>

>too training wheels
While I'll admit it's a zero skill ship I want something that I can run down and still maintain my 60% WR, gotta play the braindead broken shit if you want to carry these teams
I mean what else would I buy, the super Hinden or the super Atlanta?
I'm not buying Aki since I already have some Japanese BBs and I refuse to play hybrids on principle.

>do most cruisers have armor between the deck and cit roof
Yes, almost all of them do. You need the citadel to extend all the way up to the deck to not have that, and very few cruisers have citadels that large.
In terms of cruisers that actually get deck cit - there are a few at low tiers that eat HE cits from regular caliber (152+) guns but I can't think of many if any cruisers that would eat HE pens through their decks in the tier 10 MM spread. I'm pretty sure even the really bad ones like Minotaur don't have deck level citadels.

So uh, mostly off-topic question, but who is Carnot named for? I tried wikiing Carnot and maybe it was the minister of war/interior for napoleon? But that's kinda meh. French president who was assassinated? Probably not.

I used to play RTS CVs and man, what a system that was
>everything is insanely skill-based for the CVs, proper strafing and mindgames is everything
>whichever team has the better CV just wins, end of story, vast majority of surface ships have zero counterplay and get killed in a single cross drop like Soviet CVs but worse, only counterplay is your CV saving you with fighters but if he isn't the better player he's deplaned and de-fanged a few minutes into the match
The only thing that I miss from the RTS CV era was the brief window of Worcester dominance where you had 6.9KM stealth AA on like 6km air detect and if you turned on DFAA the moment the CV reached your air detect you could evaporate his squads with next to no ability for him to counterplay. If he tries to press home a strike on you, he has DFAA scatter on his accuracy and it's a gamble if he hits you (although it was a very real thing for CVs to still manage to dev-strike full HP Worcesters, that how bullshit RTS CVs were) and if he tries to pull his planes out of your AA he'd lose 75-100% of his planes before they leave your AA bubble.

Selection of lines and the best option is going to be the Lepanto since that tech tree sucks ass and only having to grind the Lepanto to get to the one good ship in the tree (Columbo) is a nice skip
Sejong line isn't bad, Izumo line isn't that bad, Riga line is pretty fucking strong and not worth skipping past Tallinn when grinding up the line also gets you to Nevsky which is good enough to be banned from tournaments, Fletcher is pretty fucking pointless when Gearing has fallen off so hard it isn't even funny and the other USN DD line is probably way better
So the only line that really makes sense is Lepanto to skip a truly awful FXP bait tech tree
Lepanto >>> Izumo > Sejong > Riga > Fletcher in order of priority imo

Tier IX Premium Russian destroyer Neustrashimy is very similar to Tier X Russian destroyer Grozovoi in the regular tech tree. While Neustrashimy has one less turret than Grozovoi, Neustrashimy trades the missing firepower for better concealment. She is very much a jack-of-all-trades, marrying the gunboat aspects of the Soviet destroyer line with Japanese-like stealth and American torpedo performance.
The most obvious characteristic of Neustrashimy is her lack of main battery punch. With only four barrels, a Neustrashimy salvo lacks in power compared to the majority of her contemporaries at Tier IX. On the other hand, Neustrashimy’s concealment is outstanding, besting even Tier X Japanese destroyer Shimakaze. Neustrashimy boasts some of the best torpedoes among all Russian destroyers. The real strength of Neustrashimy lies in her consumables set. Like Grozovoi, Neustrashimy has a fantastic array of consumables that afford her a lot of flexibility. This allows Neustrashimy to play near the front lines, supporting pushes into objectives, whilst having options to deter or disengage from combat when it becomes unfavorable. If timed correctly, the combined use of Specialized Repair TeamsWhile active, restores a percentage of the ship's health points each second. and Engine BoostWhile active, increases a ship's speed by a fixed percentage. can increase her longevity in battle, where she can use her advantages to harass enemy counter-pushes, hunt down enemy ships, or steal back capture points at her leisure. In summary, this hybrid-platform allows a lot of freedom on the high seas.
>>
>>
>>2080669
if you wanted a real answer you'd go watch Potato Quality or Flamuu or whoever the fuck
It's a hybrid with solid torps that has a cockroach heal, so you pick fights that you'd never win against ships that can't heal and whittle them down over the course of multiple engagements while spamming torps at shit.
You have Russian 130s so you can open up the gap and still pound them good until they disengage, just don't get caught with your pants down with your heal on cooldown.

Having a hard time deciding if I want Hawaii or Bremen, I have just enough steel to grab one of the two.
My initial thought is Hawaii because it has braindead Smolensk tier gun arcs, stupid range, stupid DPM, a ridiculously tanky hull and your tradeoff is that you burn down if you open water (on a ship that can swap to Atlanta arcs and sit next to an island to farm) and I guess you don't have torps if someone rushes your island but I mean you have a fucking radar so that's on you. Add in stupidly good AA for a cruiser to get CV cunts to fuck off and I'm really not seeing much of a downside here.
But Bremen also looks like a very consistent, reliable swiss army knife of a ship and I'm not sure if it'd be more rewarding to have a ship with a stronger armor profile and more of a German kiting playstyle.
I don't have Hindenburg and probably won't grind it any time soon but I'm wondering if Hinden/Clausewitz offer a similar enough playstyle that Bremen is nice but not a must-have whereas what can really compare to Hawaii?
Neither Aki or I-56 enter into the equation, I have Musashi so I don't need another Japanese BB and hybrids are gay anyways and who the FUCK plays submarines
I've also been considering Valparaiso but honestly I think I enjoy cruisers more than battleships and both Bremen and Hawaii look compelling enough to skip Valp.
>>
Hawaii and Bremen are both boring fire spammers. There are plenty of TT ships which do what they do already. I don't think Hawaii will be better at DD hunting than a lot of other options available for free either.
So get Le Havre.

Kearsarge is frankly amazing, even if you never launch a single plane. Iwami is a pretty well-rounded ship, can go full secondaries or just go hybrid with the module and 3 point skill. Tier 9 Kii, makes good money.

It'd help if you had a playstyle you prefer.
Groningen is a great gunboat DD, if you have Friesland then don't buy it since it's a clone but if not it's a very solid destroyer with a decently fun playstyle.
Pommern is a German brawler with a good secondary focus and decent enough torps for brawling - but you have the disappointing German 380s. They're in large enough number to be useful, but they're not exactly what I'd consider an enjoyable gunnery experience.
Iwami on the other hand has solid 410s with great dispersion/sigma that allows you to play mid to long range. You have the DECENT 100mm secondaries, but you don't have buffed secondaries and it doesn't have a brawling armor profile so it's not really meant for that. You also get torps that have a stupid amount of damage and 20km range if you want to dump them into caps/at islands while playing mid-range, or you can save them to shut down anyone trying to brawl you.
I'm not sure what Marco Polo does, mid range SAP alpha striker with nasty 406 guns?
>>
>>
>>2096991
I'd narrow it down to Groningen and Iwami, the other guy seems to really like Iwami so it can't be too bad and Japanese BBs are usually pretty solid (but I'm a DD main so I'm biased in all of this)
If you still can't pick flip a coin.
Heads Groningen, Tails Iwami.

While we're discussing coal ships, this is what I'm looking at in my armory.
I'm thinking I'll probably buy Hayate since I'm a DD main and I actually really enjoy Asashio/Japanese 127s, so having a hybrid where the 127s have enough DPM to be useful outside of just alpha strike damage is appealing.
But Marceau also seems fun if challenging to play, Tromp is kinda iffy since I don't like using gimmicky shit like airstrikes but I've heard it's a decently fun DD anyways.
Khaba is a style of DD I enjoy, and I wish I would've just grinded the line when I had the chance, but I can't imagine it's worth coal over Delny/Kleber in the tech tree
I'm also mildly considering Yoshino, I'm not sure if I need/want a large cruiser that spams HE from across the map but it's not a totally unappealing playstyle just something I think I have enough of already.
Brisbane is on my radar but not sure it offers enough over something like Minotaur to be worth 310k coal, at least Defence is unique if totally out of my price range for the time being (would rather focus on buying two 260k coal ships)

Different poster from the other guy (he's already narrowed it down to a few ships and he's looking at T9 ships)
My Japanese fleet looks like this, so it's not like there's no value in owning Yoshino. But it's also not like I don't have other long range kiting HE spammers like Henri IV, Nevsky and even Kushiro to some extent. Obviously Yoshino is a bit different since it's larger and bulkier and straddles the line between cruisers and BBs, but it's still the same fundamental sit in the back and smack people with HE gameplay unless the AP is actually really good and I'm underestimating the ship.

Yes, but not ships you're getting from containers/have in your port.
But if you were feeling generous, you can buy Atago from the premium shop for real money and select "Purchase as gift"
Part of me kinda wishes there was a system to gift/trade ships among players but it would be super abusable so WG would never add it since it'd kill their bottom line
You'd have tons of bot accounts grinding out dockyard ships/opening free christmas crates/doing events and whatever to accumulate premium ships and then selling them for like half the price WG charges.

Elbing is pretty fun. It's like a stealthy light cruiser with no citadel and with great guns.
The problem is... how do I deal with enemy destroyers?
>>
>>
>>2110061
You kinda don't, it's one of those DDs that isn't meant to deal with other DDs on its own. If they get spotted for you then hit them with AP if it'll arm and you can get rid of them pretty quickly but if it's a 1v1 you just have to try to bait them into pushing into their conceal around an island or other cover or they'll just kite you forever.
You either support conventional DDs, go in with radar ships, or just sorta accept you're crippling a DD slot with a CL.

>>

It feels like confirmation bias since it apparently doesn't have any better sigma or dispersion values than Iowa, and slightly worse shell ballistics, but I have found Indiana's dispersion/gunnery to be surprisingly good.
I'm just dicking around with it in Asyms but I'm surprised at how playable this ship is, all it's missing is a nice 8% speed boost to get it up to like 31kts top speed and it'd be perfect.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>2110061
>It's like a stealthy light cruiser with no citadel and with great guns.
I hate it because it's missing one gigantic thing, DPM. If you aren't getting cits regularly, it's just worse than spamming AP with Grozovoi or Z-52.
>>
>>
Bit of a daft question but has there been any sort of FXP ship in the past few years? I'm sitting on like 3M and regret not buying a bunch of the fxp ships when I had the chance, now I'm just wondering if it's possible WG is ever going to do anything with FXP again or if I should just dump it all into Harugumo resets and pick up a research bureau ship.
>>
>>
>>2110859
I know, but I think this guy >>2110859
is right. DD is very crucial to winning and choosing to play a DD that can't do DD jobs well is like gimping your team. Not saying they can't work though.
It's also a reason why I like tanky cruisers with good gun. It's like you bring a pocket battleship that use a cruiser slot, thus giving your team advantage.
>>
>>
>>
>>2119722
Should still be decent. I've been playing a bunch of Indiana lately and it's surprisingly good (in Asym, anyways)
The guns in specific do a lot of work, not sure how much of that is the 27s reload and how much is bias but on paper it should be a bit worse than Iowa.
All of that to say you should still be able to make Iowa work.

>If I wanted to pad WR I'd just play DD all day.
It says a lot about the average modern World of Warships player if the mere act of playing the Destroyer yourself nets you more consistent victories than if you didn't.
>>
>>2130846
>modern
As a DD Mafia since Beta my brother in christ it's always been this way
Like 80-85% of DD players in this game are pure dogshit and it's always been the most influential class so playing DD remotely competently tends to be free wins.
Of course CVs and Subs have taken away from that a bit but not every match has CVs/Subs and they still don't completely negate a DD's impact, just mitigate it.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>2131297
By what metric? RTS CVs that were literally completely fucking braindead gamebreaking and won by massive skill differential, or current CVs that aren't even close to as influential on the match despite still being questionably balanced?
I'd like to know your metric for "best players" anyways, the last time I looked at an actually decent leaderboard you had a handful of retardedly high WR players in CVs (most of their matches in RTS CVs) with the vast majority of the top 100 being DD players and a few cruiser/BB players.

Depends on WHAT DD playstyle you want
Arguably torpboats aren't meta in any way and you MUST play gunboats, but if you enjoy torpboat/hybrid there are still decent options to be had
The new USN DD line is pretty okay (peaks at T9) if you like gunboats and are good with the gimmicky smoke mechanic
Gdansk line is crazy good but also not exactly new player friendly
Daring is still pretty good even if the low speed does hamper it
I think Yueyang is finally in a better place with the buffs its received over the years to the point it's basically just a Gearing but better
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>

It has limited smoke, not best smoke.
Other DDs have super heals
It has trash torps, trash guns and is slow. Almost all other DDs can just walk away.
Lushun, Daring, Alvaro, Vampire, Ragnar and Hull all smash it.
>>
>>2141056
It has insanely good smoke that allows you to control vision. Do I think they should buff the duration by another like 40 seconds so you have some room to farm when the tech tree gets 200s of smoke? Yeah, 120s of duration on Laffey would probably help a lot.
I'd probably also buff the burst fire to a 20s reload and if possible reduce the interval to 0.5s between salvos, and if you really wanted to dig into the bag and make it a proper 2025 ship and a real monster I'd give it Austin HE shell weight/velocity so the guns are effective all the way out to the 12.4km max range and it's a genuinely terrifying threat.
But to call it D tier when there's plenty of stuff it totally shits on and it has a pretty decent toolkit is insane. I mean if you 1v1 a Gearing the dude is losing that fight 9/10 times and the 1 time he wins is because you sat broadside and ate his torps.
Actually I'd probably add that to the Laffey buffs if we're really going at it - 8km to 12km torps, so the ship has a unified effective range out to 12km and can play around radar cruisers since the torps are otherwise the same as Gearing's pretty well liked torps.
But to say the ship is bad right now is cope. It's just a solid, strong DD and not a powercreep monster.
>>
>>2141829
It should be buffed those ways and I got tricked into buying her so hey, good for me. If you give her 12km torps, a purpose to her burst and more smoke time she would absolutely be better than Gearing, so top half, maybe top quarter DD. But she doesn't have those things so she has an extremely small and awkward niche. Is she fine against your average DD? Yeah, but she suffers badly against some DDs and she's not even that good at farming due to short torps and limited total smoke time. I agree that almost any DD with a heal is "good" but she has one of the worst packages to go with that heal of all DDs.
>>
>>
>>2142246
Sherman is alright but has poor conceal + is clumsy and slow.
It's a little like a Daring in that sense (you have less usable torps but they are not as useless as people make them out to be, I get plenty of hits with them but you cannot defend yourself with them)
You don't get a heal like Daring which is a downside, and you have long duration USN smokes that require you to anchor in one place to farm instead of being mobile.
You do have insane SAP and a 5km hydro though so you're not useless as a DD hunter but you get punished even harder than Daring for overextending and WILL die if you try to cap contest early game.
Can't speak to Hull as I don't own it (but will probably get it when I finally get the RP)
I don't know that you can compare the two though since they use totally different resources, I still think Sherman is probably among the better coal ships you can buy and I'd recommend it as long as you know what you're getting yourself into (mid-range farming gunboat that can be very nasty as a DD hunter in the lategame or opportunistically midgame)

It's kinda amazing to me how solid Des Moines still is for a ship that's been in the game since launch.
Amazing AP, consistent HE, great DPM, solid enough hull (even if everything overmatches it now), good maneuverability for an island camper, it's just an incredibly solid ship that still does work.
>>
>>
>>2144145
Yeah but that's a LOT of shit and at least DM gets decent enough AA for a cruiser with the option to run DFAA
It's also an island cruiser so it suffers slightly less than open water flankers do.
Honestly I'd give it a tiny buff by moving DFAA to a separate slot so it gets hydro+DFAA like Worcester does.

if you want to be a real cv cancer player then take your fxp and research the Russian CV line (Nakhimov, or even just Pobeda)
their gimmick is the entire flight attacks at once so you get stupid amount of ordinance spammed out and you get to ignore AA instead of getting whittled down trying to make multiple attack runs
Franklin D Roosevelt also has large torp squads but is steel so you probably can't afford it, Malta might have large squads as a coal CV?
I don't really play a lot of CV so I can't tell you which skycancer is the best.

If you're okay with >Arkaden the gameplay is arguably way better, at least at a core mechanical level (ignoring all the really cancerous powercreep and pay to win shit)
They're a lot more tactical depth and the gameplay isn't slow as fucking molasses.
Submarines are kind of a weird class that isn't really that fun to play or play against, Yamato is solid enough.
Potato Quality just did a Japanese tech tree focus if you're up for an hour of gameplay to see how the entire tree plays and what you're in for as you grind
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQbg15KaJSk
Flamuu's an alright source for gameplay too, he's kind of a dickhead and sometimes he's wrong about shit (he argued with me with a straight face that Massa was a mediocre ship at the time of its release) but he has hands and usually his opinion on cars is alright
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DCa2dgUeFo
Actually if you create an account and log in before January 1st, you can get Izumo for free right now and skip 90% of the tech tree grind.
I don't know if I recommend actually jumping in at T9, but it would save you weeks of grinding towards Yamato even if you decide to grind something else like US BBs to get a feel for the game/learn at lower tiers.

Then it's fine. I dislike WT naval very much, it's beautiful and the detailed x-rays are cool, but the gameplay is simply atrocious. Warships is not as simple as say, arcade WT ground or air, so I think it can still be fun.
Also I don't think it's cartoony at all, maybe you mean the silly captain they use as a mascot? The models are not quite as detailed as WT, but still very good.

Yep, if you haven't checked the blog you get Dmitry Pozharsky in the same track.
Not sure if you'll be able to run up the other Italian track for the Giuseppe Verdi and Marco Polo as well or if that'll be too many points.
There are a few other interesting options like a premium Petro that a lot of people will probably go for and the track with the Navarin and Z-52.
I'm curious what the compensation will be for Optio since I already own it from the battle pass, probably credits but doubloons would be really nice

The reworked CVs are even stronger. AA barely does anything and your planes now immune to AA when attacking so you can always get at least one drop and your CVs can regenerate planes so you will never run out of them.

Wow, Kremlin is actually really fucking bad.
The guns are surprisingly good but you literally can't use your rear turret because it has a paper thin belt and if you aren't at autobounce angles you eat 5-6 cits and lose half your ship in seconds. I'm not talking punished for being flat broadside I mean the second you give even the tiniest sliver of non-autobounce side you instantly get devstruck.

She can't fight DDs since her concealment, maneuver and arcs are shit. She's a citadel-less light cruiser taking a DD slot. Which is good for damage farming but bad for winrate. Personally, I rarely see them do anything impactful.

Cossack was and should still be really good, I'd put it above Repulse. Optio is kinda whatever and you MIGHT be able to re-grab it from the upcoming event with leftover tokens if you really want it.
Honestly this is one of those things that, I don't know where your credits went or whatnot but if you haven't started playing yet I'd contact WG and lie and tell them your account was compromised and the person deleted all of your ships.
See if you can just straight up get them to rollback your account and recover all 40 something ships in one go.

You should still be in protected MM even if you get a higher tier ship, but rush up the tiers to like T7 or even T8 imo
You might want to stop at T7 to actually learn the game, it's kinda a nice sweet spot without too much toxic garbage but if you're running up a cruiser line T7 cruisers are kinda hit and miss so you might want to learn at T6/T8 depending on the line.
If you've figured out which line you want to commit to I'll tell you which ship to stop at and learn the game in, but you're 11 games in so I don't blame you if you're undecided
Also you can play asyms at like T6 which is a harder PvE mode, still not too hard to win but will force you to learn positioning/angling etc and prime you a bit for randoms.
>>
>>
>>
>>2195670
>subs
best of luck to you, I got U-4501 from my anniversary crate and it's fucking miserable to play in randoms
>USSR cruisers
Budyonny is pretty solid to learn in, definitely move past Kotovsky. Shschors isn't the absolute worst but I'd probably just push to either Chapayev or Tallinn. Chapa/Nevsky line is faster, long ranged kiters that spam HE and Tallinn/Petropavlovsk are medium-range brawlers with large guns and a focus on AP with improved pen angles. Both lines are good imo, I would grind both T8s from Shchors.
For French, Emile Bertin is a really weird T5 with low DPM that requires surprisingly advanced game knowledge to do well in. La Gal is a much more standard cruiser at T6, definitely better to learn cruiser gameplay because Emile plays a lot more like a large DD.
Algerie is fucking terrible, get past that as quickly as possible. The Henri line is similar to Nevsky in that you play a long-range high speed kiting role for the most part although you do have 240mm guns and a reload booster so you can absolutely punish people with AP and play more mid-ranged if you have good map sense. You're just in a really shitty position if your MBRB and engine boost are on cooldown at mid-range so you have to balance aggression with passive kiting. I haven't played the Marseille line yet to give you a full rundown on it, but it looks like a mid-range battlecruiser line that focuses on having nasty AP potential at the cost of having absolutely dogshit HE.
>>
>>2195689
>DDs
Minsk is, or at least was, a lot of fun. Definitely recommend stopping here and learning kiting gunboat DDs here until you unlock both Kiev and Ognevoi. Not sure if I recommend Delny in the big 26 but Grozovoi is still a very comfortable jack of all trades ship that can do a little bit of everything. For French DDs, Vauquelin is not an easy ship to play and it took me a good amount of time to come around on it but it's a very solid place to learn the Kleber line. Kleber's an interesting ship because I honestly see it as a long-ranged kited HE spammer since CVs and subs really dominate the vision game and make it hard to play such a large and poorly concealed DD as a close-in assassin, but if you run the leg mod you can absolutely try to swing it as a torpboat. It's a sorta interesting hybrid ship that is really hard to define to one niche. It has good torps with solid DPM but they're hideously short-ranged and require a lot of risk to use. It has strong guns and with MBRB active you can absolutely assassinate a good handful of DDs or even light cruisers if you hit their broadside cit with AP. But I see most people play it as a long-range, impossible to hit gunboat that just puts out damage all match until the late-game where they finally hunt. Cassard line is another really interesting hybrid line that has solid gunpower to defend itself with and an interesting torp gimmick where you can launch torps from a safe distance and do a little damage or get in dangerously close and do a lot of damage.
The only thing with picking French DDs for your first line is that both lines are smokeless DDs and smoke is an incredibly valuable tool for vision control. You will get worked over, hard, by far better DD players and you won't have the safety net that smoke provides to give you training wheels. I would personally, as a DD main, recommend you go Daring or Yueyang line for your first DD.
>>
>>
>>
>>2195730
Minsk finally got usable torps a while back, it used to have like 4km torps. But it's not at all a torpboat, and you shouldn't be expecting to use your 7km torps often or even try to get in range to use them. It's first and foremost a kiting gunboat that wants to let it's very nice 130s sing as often as possible. Kiev/Tashkent are more of the same, whereas Ognevoi/Udaloi have more usable hybrid torps (but they are still first and foremost gunboats and have bad torp DPM)
Honestly getting through low tiers is very quick so my genuine advice if you love torps is to shelve Soviet DDs for now and pick up Pan Asian DDs. Jianwei at T5 is a bit of a pain point, but the T4 is an insane seal clubber and the T6 is pretty good (it plays like Gnevny but with better torps)
Gadjah Mada is a super good, comfortable, easy to play Hybrid. You get very good conceal, very good maneuverability, excellent smokes, excellent guns that allow you to defend yourself and even hunt other torpboats, and it's all topped off with 2 racks of powerful deepwater torps that let you absolutely farm battleships. Gadjah is one of the best DDs in the game for a new player to learn in, with the only downside being that the T8 after it (Hsienyang) is very mediocre. Although, it has TRB nowadays which probably makes it a lot more comfortable to play as a torpboat.

You're going to get mixed opinions on the Dunkerque I think but personally I like mine. You have a pretty maneuverable, flexible platform at T6 that has an okay armor scheme and HP pool. The guns are a bit small in caliber but you get 8 of them, I find their accuracy is pretty respectable with good shell velocity that makes them easy to lead, and you get a shorter 26 second reload.
It's not at all a bad ship for learning the fundamentals of playing a BB although it's less of a stationary bow-in tank and more of a flexible mobile battlecruiser style thanks to the good top speed, low caliber guns/fast reload and not super impressive armor. Play it at mid-range, try to keep moving and use your all-forward guns to angle steeply without losing any DPM for it and switch between HE and AP as necessary. You are a really good cruiser killer, your 330s will punish cruisers super hard and when I played it a lot my primary focus was trying to find cruiser broadsides and punish them. Your AP pen is good but you still do struggle a bit against other BBs thanks to your low caliber guns so don't be afraid to shoot HE at them if you aren't getting nice clean broadsides to hit with AP. Overall a really nice and maybe even underrated T6 BB, it has a bit of a learning curve but at the same time it's very forgiving once you learn it since you never need to give broadside to get a rear turret in the fight.

Halford's guns and layout thereof impressed, expected something gimped with that float fighter. Groningen's probably most fun. Marco Polo's dispersion can let you down, but it's otherwise great for the price. No SAP secondaries albeit.
>>2097070
Hayate Torp Reload Booster is handy, and the guns make it so you're not compromising on gunboating either, if you wanted to build into it or have a hybrid. Khab's DPM is better than French X, if memory serves. Tulsa might be a cheaper side option to Brisbong for DPM memes in 203.

Japanese battleships (Yamato line) really clicked for me as a new player. They've got a really simple game plan. Stay at a distance and lob AP for big damage. You should be on AP 95% of the time with them. Only swap to HE if you're shooting at DDs.
They'll teach you how to aim, land citadels, and kite.
They also handle quite well for battleships.
USN Montana line also works, but I found their early tiers frustrating when I started.

the problem is that retards see/hear that and assume they can just yolo directly into the entire enemy team and that's the optimal Valp play
the campers are just your standard BB retards who will camp in any BB you put them in, whether it's Valpairaiso, Pommern, Missouri, Musashi, whatever role it's supposed to take they'll just kite at max gun range and play as safely as possible so they can be the last one alive at the end of the match with 50k damage

Shamelessly stolen from Reddit, nice visual overview of the event.
Red numbers are how much in coal you can pay to get the ships.
I wonder if the T9 BBs are worth the 258k coal, I have Optio from the battle pass as I'd imagine a bunch of people do which lets you skip the lunar token cost.
Also of note is that you did NEED to do Leaderboards to get enough lunar tokens for Nera/Sharqi paths, although buying like one 8000 coal stage to make up for the lack of tokens is hardly a big ask for 99% of the playerbase.
>>
>>
>>2236068
I'm going for Lauria, while I get the appeal of a prem tech tree ship I don't play enough German ships or have Lutjens for a prem Schlief to matter to me
Same with Petro in that I haven't bought Kuznetzov yet, wouldn't mind getting it if I buy any crates though.
My thought process though is that I have Schlieffen and Petro already, they're not new or exciting in any way. Lauria on the other hand I will literally never own outside of getting Tempesta Nera in this event. I am NEVER going to buy it for steel when there are so many other appealing steel ships to buy and Steel Will drains Steel reserves every year. So for me this is a once in a lifetime chance to own a unique Italian BB and an alright Russian prem and that to me is worth more than Zieten Petro or Irian Schlief
YMMV though if you have Lutjens and you enjoy playing Adalbert and Schlieffen then it might be a no-brainer to get Zuckerhoff.

Bad news for you, Neonport is 42k tokens and your max if you did leaderboards is like 45,700
If you do have the 3500 extra tokens you can save the 48k coal that Furutaka costs, but it's still 18k for the captain, 156k for N. Cal and then 216k for Navarin or like 390k coal.
If you don't have a ton of tokens to spare it's going to break 400k coal, up to a potential of 438k.

It's a steel ship, so it's by definition not awful.
But it's not even really better than Colombo (a bit unfair since Colombo is retardedly broken) and so in the context of buying it with Steel there are so many other options that I think it's a bit stupid to spend hard-earned steel on it. I'd never buy it over any of the other steel options I don't have.
BUT, when the equation is Lauria vs Schlieffen vs Petro? The Lauria becomes a lot more competitive, in my eyes.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XXyy4BnfoA
>>
>>2244471
Unfortunately it is most frequently compared to the most broken ship in the game. Yes, it doesn't do what Columbo does quite as well, but it does other things better and has some serious drawbacks, mostly the raised citadel and shell catchers aft. 457 SAP overmatch is an interesting strength though.
>>
>>
>>2244938
Uh, probably? Tirpitz is probably a better comparison. 15s are less impressive at 8 than at 7. At 7 you can overmatch almost every BB's bow, at 8 not very much. German 11s are just not very good because they are inaccurate and have really poor HE. Theoretically you punish broadside cruisers more easily but you punish cruisers with whatever BB guns.
>>
>>
>>
>>2244968
How new? There's honestly some argument to be made for grabbing PTRPVLSK or Von Zuckerhoff if you're not going to be going up either of those tech trees any time soon. I'd skip the Sharqi line, unless you really think you'd enjoy the brawling gameplay of Navarin. Libertatia is also a hard skip, no real value in any of those ships. Shamrockville is a hard skip, Imperium is a weird one where both Marco and Giuseppe are interesting enough ships but probably not worth it outside of niche cases.
So the rec lines are either Neonport for Poz+Lauria, Pinatopia for Irian and Schlieffen which are pretty solid (you get a good T8 premium and a solid enough T10) or Rustport for Zieten and Petro which are both tech trees but not terribly bad ships either.
Z-52 I don't really recommend in 2026 and most of the track is pretty dogshit outside of Navarin - it's also the most expensive track token-wise so a bit of a loser there too.
>>
>>2246067
I don't really think there's a reason to go for a techtree clone if he wasn't interested in going down that line anyway. The only reason to get a suckheroff is if you really like the pinata camo or you want to freeslot lutjens, which I doubt a new player is concerned about.

That's fucked man, my heart goes out to you
I'd personally want to have most of those ships for collection's sake, but if I had to pick I'd probably grab Brandenburg (Anhalt can be obtained for coal if you ever do want it quicker, or just placed relatively low on the credit recovery list), I-56, maybe Hood, maybe Atago, potentially Azuma since it's a Tier 9 prem (but also available for coal/could buy Yoshino and "replace" it), Congress and Kidd. I don't think any of the lower tier ships are really that valuable in terms of gameplay fun, maybe Blyska is okay but the rest I either own and they're bland or I can look at the stats and my opinion is they'll probably be bland.
For the other list I mostly agree with the guy who's already responded but I'd probably value Repulse/Warspite lower unless you really enjoy that style of gameplay at T6.
Cossack is a monster of a DD, even today.
Optio was available in a battle pass and is available right now for tokens/coal so it's a pretty low value ship even if it's not a particularly bad one (although it's also a T7 croozer)

Nah I don't know that XVOYAGE is good enough to make up for being able to grab a bunch of pretty solid premium ships every month assuming you grind enough credits.
What's the rest of your account look like resource-wise, do you have an appreciable amount of coal/steel?
Also consider all the tech trees you've already got, not that it takes THAT long to grind tech trees these days.

Germans: Secondaries, hydro, protected citadels, high penetration HE
USA: Big/fast heals, good AA(ha), generally well balanced jack of all trades
Japan: Great torpedoes, good detection, good guns
UK: Biggest heals, best HE, large consumable arrays
USSR: best armor, powerful but slightly inaccurate guns, poor detection
Dutch: airstrike aids
Pan-EU: fast low detect torpedoes, usually have speed boost on everything
Pan-AM: overpowered bullshitium F button boats
Italy: fuel smoke, SAP, slow torps, good paintjobs/aesthetics
Spain: nobody cares

Cleveland has the best FPM, Bayard has a very good FPM while being a flexible comfortable to play cruiser and I don't think that number factors in the reload booster so Bayard probably has the highest FPM at T8 and the ability to frontload those fires into someone who's damage con you've burnt so they bleed out to a triple perma-fire.
Honorable mentions to Irian (similar playstyle to Harbin but using bigger guns with better velocity/range and fires per minute)
Auckland also has a respectable enough 8.8 FPM on a tech tree ship with smoke so might be a consideration.
I think finally I'd also consider Grau as a firestarter - the fires per minute/DPM is pretty anemic without the funny key, but it does the same thing Bayard does where if you have your reload boost up and someone has damage con on cooldown, they're about to have a horrible time.
Charles Martel is kinda mid but it's a tech tree reload booster cruiser that might be alright for getting a taste for that sort of playstyle.

To sum them up a bit more for you
Tech tree (i.e. you don't have to shell out real money)
>Cleveland
Floaty shells arcs in exchange for the best DPM and fires. Likes to play around island cover and avoid being spotted, not an incredible ship in open water thanks to poor shell arcs and not amazing survivability. 9km radar, okay utility ship. Pick this if you want a mostly passive playstyle and are okay with the learning curve of leading (and are okay with occasionally being frustrated by ships you just can't hit because they're too far away/maneuverable)
Your radar is for locking down areas and holding caps.
>Chapayev
Open water kiter - you have MUCH flatter shell arcs than Cleveland in exchange for a bit less DPM and fires. Pick this one if you want to play a lot more of an active role since you can't hide behind islands as well thanks to flat shell arcs. You will reliably be hitting faster ships and ships further away, and enjoying a more active (and risky) playstyle. You also get 12km radar - it doesn't last as long, but it's a lot nicer for catching and killing DDs. Your radar is for catching out DDs and maiming or killing them with your guns.
>Auckland
I haven't actually played this one, but from what I can see you have a nice creeping smoke that allows you to be flexible in your positioning while farming with HE. You have decently hard hitting HE since you have 203s, you have good DPM, you want to play mid-range (far enough away you don't get spotted with your not-amazing smoke firing penalty) and basically just selfishly farm. Your utility is being very good against submarines because you have sub surveil and can hold 3 charges of long range ASW planes.
Cont. for CM/Bayard/Grau
>>
>>2252699
>Charles Martel
You're a high speed, long range kiter. You take advantage of your speed to speed juke and throttle juke while speed boost is active. You don't bring any team utility, you're purely selfish. Play long range at first with HE, use reload booster on BBs without damage con to really pump out the fire damage. In later game, or if the opportunity presents itself, you can also use reload booster with AP to be a nasty ambush predator that can delete broadside cruisers, so don't underestimate that.
Premiums
>Bayard
Pretty similar to Charles Martel, but you're much faster and more maneuverable at the cost of durability (not that CM is that durable) and you have smaller caliber guns so you don't have the nasty AP punch. But overall pretty much everything else about your ship is better.
>Grau
Very funny meme ship, you play a decent enough 152 cruiser with relatively mediocre DPM. You don't get a smoke, or a heal, or anything of any real utility. You get pretty decent conceal though and that's the funny part of this ship - staying dark while repositioning lets you charge up combat instructions that cuts your reload by 2/3 for a full 30s. This transforms you from a mediocre middle of the pack cruiser to a DPM firehose MONSTER. You win cruiser 1v1s hilariously, you melt BBs, you evaporate DDs, it's insane.
>Irian
Basically a Chapayev without the radar but in exchange you get TRB on hilarious deepwater torpedos so you can drop 10 deepwaters that hit for 18k with 13.5km of range which can make you an absolute menace against BBs
For some reason I thought this thing got Pan Asian smoke because I usually see these guys sitting in someone's smoke but it's probably for the best it doesn't.

Restore camera option, so it's hold R-Click, release for wide angle. Remove Camera Feedback For Damage and Reduced Fire/Flooding Effect, UI garbage. And use the Dynamic reticle, which will be regulated to flight to target, assuming 30 knots.

Shimantos are strong VI/VII, then obese DDs above. Mogami all day.
>>2251372
Get the Kheper in the Moonyear event (North Carolina reskin). Competitive down tiered, good enough camo, hard hitting accurate guns, good heal/repair.
>>2248570
Wouldn't bother beside Warspite, Atlanta, Cossack, Champagne, Tulsa and Optio. Tier for tier,Warspite & Coassack. Tulsa's DPM's nuts.

If you're asking you're probably in protected/bot MM so do randoms since it'll be basically the same as co-op but with actual experience gains
Later on you'll just fxp to T5 for new branches since it's not worth the effort to grind T1-4 and the fxp economy isn't so stingy you can't afford to skip T1-4

Wait, I thought Pilus Posterior (Giuseppe Verdi clone) was a brawling battleship, but it has the same secondaries range and accuracy as other normal battleships?
>>
>>2261718
It has SAP. That's the gimmick. You pen armor that HE secondaries shatter on, so you get really good DPM at the cost of not starting fires. You also have a fuel smoke that allows you to farm people - your secondaries don't break smoke conceal, so theoretically you can sit in that smoke at like 5km for an entire minute with your main guns silent and just farm them down from conceal.
If you look at the secondary DPM, it has the most DPM of any T9 BB (although the actual hitting DPM is a bit below the really heavy secondary BBs like Navarin or Iwami thanks to not having improved accuracy)
It's not a broken S-tier BB though, no. It's just alright.

It looks neat.
I get that in the current meta where every single fucking ship has either radar or hydro or both and there is constant CV spotting as well as submarines your 5.4km concealment isn't nearly as reliable or good as it should be but I still enjoy high conceal DDs that leverage vision control and having close-range high risk high reward torps is a fun playstyle even if it's inherently underpowered compared to some of the broken shit that doesn't have to make sacrifices to get that. But unlike something like SIX SEVEN Loyang, you have a safety net instead of being completely useless if there's a radar on your flank.
>>
>>
>>2271188
It's not going to be for everyone but I'm a big Asashio player even though it's heavily MM dependent because even once you're done using your deepwaters the 5.4km conceal still lets you do a lot of work at T8 (especially if you're top tier since radar creep is mostly T9/T10)
Obviously Minegumo is going to suffer more as a T9 but I still get the feeling it should play a lot like Asashio (considering it IS an Asashio) but with the ability to actually deal with cruisers and even other DDs. I do kinda think they should give it a bit more gun DPM though, like a 5s base reload instead of 6s. It still wouldn't be a hybrid gunfight winner and the focus for IJN DDs has always been on initial salvo weight but giving it a bit more teeth might help. That or buff IJN 127s across the board to do even MORE ridiculous initial alpha, cause even gunboats might be a bit more cautious and less YOLO if you can hit them for like 5-6k even if your sustained DPM is dogshit.
