In a similar vein to this ratbite has basically given up on proper balancing, the codebase is a nightmare, most PRs are just YML shit and the owner is the only one actually consistently working on it - and he can barely C#.
Ratbite now is in effect basically goob NRP with post round perma which is fine if you enjoy being randomly fragged.
The only reason why it has 40 min rounda instead of 20 min ones is, afaik a furfag sec metagang that does what it can to keep the round steady.
I dont really see many prospects in ratbite anymore.

Can you elaborate on this? I went through a very brief DarkRP phase a year or two ago and what it taught me is that you need to design the game to constrain player actions as much as possible in order to avoid creating rules. DarkRP is designed as a sandbox more than a game so it has very few mechanical incentives to behave "correctly," and that means you have to memorize and follow a bunch of stupid rules like "you can't just run away if someone points a gun at you."

Not necessarily. There's a ton of stuff you can do. Remember those arc flashes? Those are there to prevent powernet sabotage by your average joe. You can prevent people from making unreachable space bases with an ever increasing radiation gradient. Our port of goobcams makes surveillance much nicer and easier. Simple mechanical sec buffs also work in many cases. Once I'm done backporting the PDF design docs onto klovnstation org you're gonna be able to read them and see for yourself.

Yes, that's what I mean. Game mechanics have to constrain player behavior if you don't want to do it with rules.
Ideally you do this in a creative way that creates dynamic situations, but you still have to create mechanics that push players to behave a certain way. For example, if you don't want players to always be wearing a gas mask for powergaming reasons, you can make it obscure vision - /tg/station did this, although wizden and goob both seem not to. That way there is a trade-off to wearing one and powergamers will typically avoid wearing one without a reason.
The really big issue here is that most people want to cause trouble, one way or another.

Yes, you need to limit people in some ways - but for every mechanic we are forced to axe theres 3 we try to add as compensation + we very rarely actually axe shit outright.

that being said the game IS open source and you can completely free yourself of wizden infrastructure if you so choose. the simplestation/space station beyond people have their own auth and their own launcher on steam, although it's currently busted for .net 10
as a by the way, PJB left the wizcord today and unfriended most of the people he talked to ss14 wise, drsmugleaf is allegedly stepping in as project lead.
