>What is Tabletop Sim
TTS is a physics sandbox game meant to be used to play board games online, you can find almost any board game for free in the Steam Workshop, or even create your own!
https://store.steampowered.com/app/286160/Tabletop_Simulator/
Hosting is as easy as just opening a lobby and getting the game's workshop item. Post your favorite board games, discuss and play with other anons. Find games in the Workshop (https://steamcommunity.com/app/286160/workshop/) and discuss/host your favorite games!
Of course, if you prefer to play board games through other platforms, like Tabletop Playground, Board Game Arena, or game's digital editions, feel free to talk about and find other players here!

Games played/hosted so far. Plenty of new ones lately, glad to see anons are looking into and willing to participate in new games!
Wanna be part of the cool kids and get whatever /vm/ is playing? Good, we have a steam mod collection made for your convenience: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3442440964

also lol, at most a dozen people will print off their copy. like mediocre game devs blaming piracy when their indie knockoff doesn't sell a billion copies.
>>
>>2242922
It is a legitimate concern and I understand the designer wanting to put shittier assets in what is essentially a advertising demo but it's funny to me that they didn't realize it was a concern when they put it up in the first place.
>>
>>2242942
It would make a little more sense if he wasn't going to provide people with files for user-made translation which they'll need to fucking print once done; I guess by that point the kickstarter is done and he got his money already so he doesn't care, considering he claimed this is a one time thing and Decko won't reach retailers.
Is the game any good btw?

Yes I'm autistic because I thought that the faggot who just discovered "the new milestones" was referring to a new set of milestones instead of the milestones that were included in a seven year old expansion to arguably one of the most popular board games in general in this thread.
I would tell you to sell your copies of FCM (along with retard OP) but I'm sure you're too broke to afford one (let alone the expansion) so just do us all a favor and uninstall TTS before your combined retardation spreads to innocent board game enthusiasts.

Oh, but it gets better. Despite being cooperative, you're basically playing solitaire. Only you can see your Vantage and the location card you draw, you can describe it but only you get to pick a choice on the card and suffer the consequences, oh but if one of the players fully loses one of their resources (stamina, time, and something they used a heart for) that ends the "day" and forces you to end the game and reset and draw a new objective for the day. Or something like that, i honestly tuned out of the rules explanation halfway through because holy shit it's kinda boring for an exploration game. Interesting concept to have a mapless map split into hundreds of cards, but not interesting enough to carry the whole dicechucker bookreader of a game.
>>2245229
A reputation is probably the best word. He made Viticulture, a game that took three expansions that actually just change the game altogether to fix; Scythe, a kickstarter funded, designed with an expansion in mind, unbalanced mess of a eurogame masquerading as a diet 4x war game; and Expeditions, which is just Scythe without pretending to be a 4x. There's another game on this list but I haven't played it so i can't comment on it. Oh and he also made a fan faction for Terra Mystica which got an official publication so now his name is on that too.

Him and his Publishing company basically only release overproduced, imbalanced games that rely solely on theme and aesthetics rather than an actual fun experience. His philosophy is literally "profit is the first, second and third most important thing in game design".
Also it's pretty funny that if you look at his profile picture in forums from the thumbnail, it looks like he has the "just fuck my shit up" haircut.

In boardgames, for a long time there were two main "schools" of design: the european design which featured lss focus on style and more focus on mechanics (El Grande for example), and the american design which focused more on the style and the mechanics were forced to fit the style (see also Twilight Imperium). From there came the two terms: Eurogame describes a game where you need to think a lot to win, where maximizing efficiency of each of your turns is expected, and where interaction between opponents is usually blocking certain spaces or bidding exactly one coin more on the auction than the other guy; and Ameritrash describes the flavor first, rules whatever, beer and pretzels kind of game where you just draw cards, roll dice and see what happens. While the nomenclature might suggest that ameritrash games are worse, one gamer's trash is another gamer's treasure, and both styles can be fun, and modern games mix the two to the point of these terms almost being obsolete, but there's no better ones and i don't think we'll get any until more people read "Characteristics of Games".

All right, you now can't submit paintings if there's one still on the easel. Now as long as you can follow directions, the game should play out as normal. I also added a 2 second delay to the sell painting function so those of faint heart don't get spooked.

I detest these descriptions. Especially the idea of "where you need to think a lot to win." Eurogames just focus generally more on engine play, whereas Ameritrash is sequenced tactics. There's not an exceptional difference in the amount of thinking between the better examples of each genre, just how they're structured and what you're doing.
And the whole charge of "describing the flavor first" has been applicable first to many examples in both design philosophies for a while now. Lord knows there's been quite a few eurogames hosted here where they have to be explained for a 3rd time over during play, because instead of saying "You can upgrade this token in the upgrade phase," they're bogging it down with "You can spieggel spaggen your spoggen in the spuggle phase" and players spend time being confused and concerned about when they'll have the new terminology explained, while the rulebook positions heaps of flavor text within the rules as if it's relevant (and often contains such terminology)
Nowadays, it's better to place games on a scale of interactivity and then on a scale of slop, as it's the former that really distinguishes Euro and Ameri games, and the latter of all kinds exists across both genres.
>>
>>
>>
>>2249330
fair enough, my grasp of the structural differences between the genres (as well as the English language in general) is not the bst, which is why i said that lately these words as I use them have become obsolete. Thanks for the more indepth opinion on this.
>>
>>2249982
Nah don't worry, you still described them alright. My opinion is less one that's in-depth and more of that of someone with a chip in their shoulder on the matter, hence being a bit incensed. Just an added viewpoint on the comparison, and any contention is just more with the other people out there that have so routinely dared to not give mindless dice chucking the respect it deserves.

>Bringing outsiders in
We have enough schizos and autists. Wouldn't want redditors added into the mix.
Serious reply: what's the point of that when threads exist?
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>2251456
>what's the point?
Because just like there's a reddit for that, there's a reddit for 4chan, so we need to leave 4chan to get away from the redditors and be with the actual anons
But as for the serious answer, there's not much point to it, but there's also really no harm in it. If it gets more people to graduate to being hostanons, then more power to it. As long as lobby details are still all posted to the thread, there's really nothing it would really change for the worse.

I love the UI.
This could be great for planning long term big games, maybe we can finally get a full lobby for Twilight Imperiummaybe end it with no rage quits this time.
>>
>>2253292
Eh, I wouldn't really say it's extra useful for any planning long-term, given that you'd still need a back and forth to decide on the timing, and then once it's decided it can be posted here. I guess maybe it's useful for people wanting to use it as a dedicated thread within a thread, but that's still kinda whatever.
The most actual practical use I'd expect out of it, within the case of a thread like this where people are usually down to play whatever and there's minimal setup, would be to advertise /v/eekends in advanced. Otherwise any of the benefits mostly just boil down to personal preference or potential placebos, but it's not like it hurts anyways.

Trying to restore the whole D&D Adventure System bundle (Castle Ravenloft, Wrath of Ashardalon, Legend of Drizzt) to a usable state.
It should be functional now, come join if you want to delve into a dungeon and maybe kill a dragon.
These are not TTRPGs but very light dungeon crawling boardgames. You pick a premade hero and a dungeon. Then you explore a room, get stabbed by a skeleton, roll dice, maybe find treasure, repeat for a few rounds. You can even play as the famous Drizzt himself (I've never read his books but I hear he's a celebrity)
